Please recommend me your most effective ointment for night! Feel I’ve tried them all😳 TIA!

I use Hycosan Night.

You have my sympathy, dry eyes are miserable. Mine have been so bad this past few nights that it feels like someone is stabbing me in the eye.

WeAllHaveWings · 08/02/2021 00:36

Do you mean dry eyes or the skin around eyes.

If it is dry eyes I had a year where I had problems and I used an OTC carbomer eye gel from the chemist. The first one I got was good (medicom), the second one was much thinner and didnt provide anywhere near as much relief, I ended up buying online because the chemist changed its suppliers frequently. If you have tried a carbomer he'll it might be worth trying another brand.

I use Hylo Night ointment, which is a rebranding of Vita Pos, and find it good. I agree that having dry eyes is pretty rubbish - my eyes always look red and a bit sore 🙁

Xailin-night is a really good one, it’s the replacement for Lacrilube which is no longer available.

BambooWhoosh · 08/02/2021 08:31

Lacri lube?

TreacleHart · 08/02/2021 08:34

We both have dry yes and have tried all of the above. We find the rebranded Hylo ones the best, as previous poster mentions they were Vita pos .

I went into boots and bought these to try - I’ll report back!

Eloise If you haven't already tried it, I really, really recommend trying a high daily dose of Omega 3 for longer term relief. I have ocular rosacea, which causes me to have constantly dry eyes, and taking an Omega 3 capsule a day has worked wonders. It took about two to three months to really feel a difference but I can now even manage entirely without drops, ointments, etc.

Eloisedublin123 · 08/02/2021 21:33

Thank you! So I upped my omegas to two x strong fish oils (will check content in morning/ maybe 1500 epa/dha in the two?) and have just started udos oil. Is that enough?

For me the only eye gel that makes any difference is Hycosan Extra. My eyes get so dry that I have scratches on them from my eyelids.

Eloisedublin123 · 10/02/2021 21:47

Thank you just ordered that
Sorry to hear your eyes are so dry though

I went to the chemist about the exact same thing the other day. Interestingly she told me to also make sure I moisturise the skin, in a ring shape around my eyes too. With a non scented product, as when your eyes are dry, the whole area gets dry. Might be worth a try as well as the drops (just ordered myself some omega 3 too - thanks for that tip!)

Crazycatstory · 11/02/2021 07:11

I second hycosan extra. Brilliant stuff.

Sugarandteaandmum · 11/02/2021 07:27

Is hycosan extra OK for long term use?

Eloisedublin123 · 11/02/2021 07:54

Thanks ladies x

@Sugarandteaandmum

Is hycosan extra OK for long term use?
Yes, no preservatives and can wear with contacts.
Sugarandteaandmum · 11/02/2021 19:30

Thank you - good to know!

Yebanksandbraes · 11/02/2021 19:40

Hylo night! Also, buy an eye bag that you warm in the microwave. They are for blepharitis and help the eyelids release more of the natural oils. You use it for 5-10 mins once/twice a day. It takes a few weeks before you notice the benefits but it had changed my life. I still use the ointment but can now sleep at night and keep my eyes open past 8pm!! It was the ophthalmology department at the hospital that advised it for dry eye and it is worth a try if you're struggling.

Jackie2022 · 11/02/2021 21:14

Have you tried Xalin night ointment OP? It’s good, better than hycosan night ointment imo

Wondering if anyone could help me? I have started using an eye ointment after a year’s break, and now struggle applying the product to my eye? It goes everywhere apart from the gap between my eye and lower eyelid😩 what am I doing wrong?

Jackie2022 · 11/02/2021 21:16

Xalin is sold OTC at most pharmacies

Thealoz Duo Gel for night, drops for the daytime

Hydramed drops (this one feels particularly nice and is supposed to build up the tear film over 28 days, so more effective after a months use)

Smiling89 · 11/02/2021 22:07

Also if you get itchy eyes and crusty eyelashes (common with rosecea) try Blephademodex wipes
