Anyone have hip bursitis and groin pain? Did it get better?

Hi all,

I'm going to see a specialist at the end of the week which I can't wait for, but I'm feeling so down about the pain I'm in!

I've had hip bursitis for a long time probably 3 years? Maybe more. It's my fault, I haven't treated it properly as it would get better and disappear for a few months, come back and do the same again.

I have two kids under 3 and had them in quick succession during the pregnancies I had SPD and I did physio and saw an osteopath. After the kids were born my hips got better.

In July last year I had an online physiotherapist appt because I started getting sharp pains in my groin (mainly left side, but can be both) be gave me exercises to do and told me that I just need to "push through the pain and keep doing them" but I just couldn't. It's too painful!

What's making it worse is all the repetitive movements I have to do with two young kids and housework. I'm at the stage now where the last two days the kids have just watched tv mostly as I can't weight bear on my left leg without pain :(

This is really getting me down, I'm only 33. Is this it for me? It sounds so dramatic but it's been such a long time now...I can't carry the kids for too long or chase after them etc

Should I ask for a steroid injection would that help with the pain and enable me to do the exercises?

Some positive stories would really help!

Me again..the reason why I came across you all here was because I am after some advice. Because of my hip problems I take animal collagen (pigs feet probably) .The other stuff-marine-does nothing for me.How does anyone else take it? I find I can always taste it

Hi everyone,

So, both the consultant and I had assumed it would probably be Hip Bursitis but he told me tonight that I don't have it, that there isn't anything wrong with my joints or bones, that I've just got muscle fatigue?!

It really does feel like more than that because I'm in pain, but I guess the MRI doesn't lie!

Plan is to refer me to physio twice a week and then to do exercises at home. He says 6-12 months to see improvement. :(

He actually even said to me that he really thought it was hip bursitis from examination, and he wishes it was that so he could've helped me with the pain.

I feel lost still. I'm happy there's nothing else going on, but I don't know how I'm going to do the physio when it's so painful. Hopefully they'll help me.

Hi @Groinpainruiningmylife, just read this thread with much interest. I am going through a bit of a nightmare at the moment and understand how lost you feel. Not knowing or having a vague diagnosis is torture mentally especially when you don't know how long it will last. Naturally you want to know what it is and want a plan to fix it.

I have had throbbing and burning pain in my groin, along the outside of my hip (where you get tronchanteric bursitis but not sore to touch) and also in my glute for 3 months. It came on over a couple of days last November and it is constant 24/7. I thought I had simply overdone it as I am fit and active but it's not gone away. I have had an MRI and it was clear.

GP thinks it is probably a pinched nerve but I think he is clutching at straws. It's so depressing, I just wish I could turn the clock back 3 months.

Do you know what the basis for the consultants 6-12 month recovery timeframe was?
