Help me get my bowels moving? Desperate

Hi,

I've posted about this before pre-pregnancy. I'm suffering yet again with constipation. I'm 10+2 and I look about 20 weeks because I desperately need to go.

I haven't been for about a week, my daily diet is really balanced.

Is there anything I can take? I'm isolating at the minute and can't get anyone to go the shops but I can order online.

I have lactulose in but I'm not sure if it's pregnancy safe?

Does it get better :( I've been pregnant before and I don't remember suffering this much

I feel so full and sick

Thank you everyone, I've been on the exercise bike for half an hour trying to get things moving!

I'm having lactulose and I already drink so much water (always so thirsty) but will drink even more

i found that when i was pregnant, every time i ate bread/pasta/wheat I got blocked up, so stuff like allbran wouldnt help.
|Everything slows up. You need to drink more water and eat lots of fruit and vegetables and try and take a good walk to get things moving. A strong coffee in the morning also helps

Batfurger · 24/01/2021 19:34

OP, you need to do weight bearing exercise like walking. Biking or rowing etc don't have the same effect. I learnt rhis on an Olympic nutrition workshop when I was an aspiring athlete rather than a chubby couch potato

HavelockVetinari · 24/01/2021 19:40

Stick with the mac dose of lactose, plenty of fluids and fibre. You can take up to 50ml 3 times per day.

Lactulose is an osmotic laxative, which means it doesn't stimulate your bowel (and risk stimulating your uterus in high-risk pregnancies) - it draws water into your bowel, so it's perfectly safe during pregnancy.

If you're still stuck after the max dose then you need a GP appointment.

ButterflyBitch · 24/01/2021 19:42

Prune juice. Never fails to get things moving.

ThatDreamSheep · 24/01/2021 19:59

Ella's Kitchen do a Prune pouch which always works for babies so maybe try that?

User56839 · 24/01/2021 20:03

Prune juice. Califig liquid.

Or what helped me was coffee - ground coffee from a caffetierre. Strong and sturdy thing before breakfast. Works even with decaf.

User56839 · 24/01/2021 20:06

I mean drink it first thing. Ignore the sturdy!!

Okbutnotgreat · 24/01/2021 20:08

Chia seeds are amazing for this. Soak first preferably overnight but at least a couple of hours in milk (nut or coconut are good for this) then have a couple of big tablespoon fulls with some fruit and yoghurt.

Roselilly36 · 24/01/2021 20:08

Prunes, liquorice, and make sure you drink plenty of fluids.

It’s awful I know OP, I hope you feel better soon.

NewCatMummy · 24/01/2021 20:13

Hot curry. Chia seeds in water. Decaf strong proper coffee. Exercise.

Eloisedublin123 · 24/01/2021 21:31

Magnesium. You can get the rub in stuff or soak your feet or body in Epsom salts. Works every time!

OhNoIHaveToExercise · 24/01/2021 21:35

I hope the lactulose soon works for you.
I was badly constipated a while ago and one dose worked for me. I had been drinking plenty of water and fruit juice prior to that, I think the lactulose just helped moved things along a bit quicker!

Arrierttyclock · 24/01/2021 21:37

Movicol is the only tho g that works for me!

LetterFromLorah · 24/01/2021 21:38

Chocolate raisins!

thebluehen · 24/01/2021 21:50

Not sure if you can have laxido whilst pregnant? I found that was the only thing that really worked for me along with dulcolax and glycerin suppositories.

Once you get through this, really watch your water intake as it's probably the most important thing to keep constipation at bay.

Whoopsmahoot · 24/01/2021 22:04

2-3 Kiwis or dried apricots (at least 6) every day.

Gettinggrumpier · 24/01/2021 22:20

@Whoopsmahoot

Yes, dried apricots will definitely get you going.

I used to have them for lunch at work until I realised that I always had to rush to the toilet afterwards. Blush

Another thing to make me go is a few small sugar free boiled sweets. The artificial sweetener has a laxative effect.

UserEleventyNine · 24/01/2021 22:24

Anything with sorbitol in it. It's a sweetener used in sweets and other food meant for people with diabetes.

RuggeryBuggery · 24/01/2021 22:25

I also got massively bunged up because of the iron in the pregnancy multivitamin I took so bear that in mind as a possible contributing factor!

Fluttering5 · 24/01/2021 22:39

Yes agree with a lot of others, prune juice. And drinking way more water than usual.

Good luck x

gingeristhenewblack43 · 24/01/2021 22:46

I had terrible constipation when pregnant, dried prunes or dried apricots kept me regular along with plenty water.

But if you are badly bunged up now you may need a suppository to get your bowel moving. Good luck!

Tambourina · 24/01/2021 23:09

If you are pregnant, please ask your dr or midwife to help you.

Wishing you well. Smile

JengaJanga · 24/01/2021 23:12

Brown sugar mixed in with warm water, you can add cordial if you want...

This works a treat on small children....

Worth a try
