DD1 has just come home with a big fat neck and a weirdy rash - what degree should i pitch my panic?

She was crying in her classroom and saying she can't move her head. I checked, and she can put her chin on her chest. I looked at her though and one side of her neck is huge - the other side a bit bigger than normal - she is having trouble turning her head. She was shivery and weepy and said her armpits hurt. Just stripped her off expecting armpits to be a gland thing - but there are funny lumpy spots in her armpits.

Went into the pharmacist who did shrugging and said go to the doctors in the morning.

She's taken herself up to bed.

Do i do doctor calling. Maternal instinct thing tends to get stuck in these situations and i sway between calling 999 and doing the shrugging and saying it's viral and you're fine.

What do you think?

I do hope miniBoco's face dollops are cured soon.

CappuScreamO · 29/10/2007 17:43

lololol at 'like spots'

I once rang an emergency doctor in a panic after finding a bruise with a lump in it on my arm after an, ahem, student night out

'What is it like?" said Anonymous Doctor (on the phone, thank the lord)

"It feels like a blood clot would feel to an English student" I replied

ffs

StaryNightSky · 29/10/2007 18:32

Well Doc's are not great at knowing what a patient is saying at the best of time imo

Hope you got on ok?

FunkyGlassSlipupandyouredead · 29/10/2007 19:42

Hope the trip to drs was ok Boco

Miaou · 29/10/2007 22:58

Any news?

FrannyandZooey · 30/10/2007 08:56

Boco just saw this

I had mumps as a child - huge swelling on the neck - and it does sound mumpish

but the fact you haven't come back to this thread last night is making me worried that you have been whisked off to hospital

sending vibes of fruity goodness to you

ahundredtimes · 30/10/2007 09:58

I've just seen this too.

Is everything okay?

Bocoreepy · 30/10/2007 10:03

Hello - after the doctors last night my computer refused to let me onto the internet - i was convinced that dp had changed the password in a bid to stop my mn addiction! Didn't work all evening - but now suddenly connected.

Dr said mumps straight away, as she's got that hamster look, but then looked in her throat and said 'wow!' her tonsils are touching and covered in stuff, so he says nasty tonsillitis. She got big strong antibiotics. He did worry me a bit by saying i needed to keep a close eye all night and if she had problems breathing or swallowing call straight back or go to A&E - which she did at 6am, but by the time i'd run around shouting a bit she fell back to sleep and was ok. Still asleep now.

Other dd was sick at about 9 last night and then all night long! I have mountains of stuff piled in the bath and i'm going to spend the day crying.

oh no, so sorry to hear about this boco
Hope you don't have too much of a nightamre day, get some wine in for tonight and masses of galaxy

Mercy · 30/10/2007 10:06

Poor dds - and poor you.

Is tonsillitis infectious?

ahundredtimes · 30/10/2007 10:07

Oh god poor, poor you, poor, poor dds both. How exhausting. I would throw all the sick stuff out the window, get in the bath and cry.

Poor dd1, this must be a development from her last thing, do you think?

Do you think dd2 is okay now and has finished throwing up?

My sympathies to your DD boco I had this a couple of weeks ago and I can honestly say that it's the most ill I've ever felt.

It did seem to get worse at night,my neck seemed to swell the most early evening time. One thing I will say is if like I did,she has trouble sleeping please don't give her Medised ,night nurse etc.My Gp said with tonsils that are that swollen it would be incredibly dangerous.

Can't even give you any ideas of anything soothing to eat or drink I'm afraid, cos it was absolute agony to even swallow saliva.

On a good note once the anti-b's start kicking in she should start to feel better quickly.

ahundredtimes · 30/10/2007 10:28

Now you're being sick too? Gawd. You poor thing. You'd better put a flag up outside your house warning house of pestilence, do not enter.

This IS dreadful. You'd better all just take to your beds and close your eyes and keep a bowl handy, and know this will all pass and soon you'll all be well and skipping about.

Get DP back - is that possible?

Miaou · 30/10/2007 10:33

oh you poor things!!! Can you get someone to help you out?

Bocoreepy · 30/10/2007 10:43

Dp says no he's got too much on. I'm running a bath and have literally taken 100s advice and dumped 200 sheets and towels by the back door. I haven't actually got a towel to use, but have found a cot sheet! hahah! [insane]

I didn't even feel ill, just had a cup of tea and then felt all prickly and hot and was sick. Dd1 woke up and wailed in her bed because her neck hurts - dd2 needs scrubbing. Why am i on mn? dp is right.

MrScarRot · 30/10/2007 10:49

It's all my fault

StaryNightSky · 30/10/2007 10:51

Oh I am Sorry,

You poor things.

Still on a postive note atleast its not mumps

Suggest it sounds like you all need a duvet day curled up and watching some telly.

Do keep and eye on your DD sounds like she could get quincy. Any problems with breathing or swallowing. Go Straight to A and E. My DH gets Quincy and it is very bad.

But I am sure your DD with be fine. Just so pleased that you went to the GP.

Take Care and Hope you get better soon

MrScarRot · 30/10/2007 10:52

We will fashion wondrous get-well cards and send them by owl to Suffolk, and fruit, I will see if they can carry fruit too. Poor poor Boco and co.

FrannyandZooey · 30/10/2007 12:51

Oh no Boco you poor bugger

I can't believe she was sick so many times without managing to make a bowl or anything

and now you are rotten too - will dp be able to come home a bit early, or anything?

DANCESwithHughJackman · 30/10/2007 13:02

Oh no Boco what a nightmare. Hope those AB kick in soon for dd. Flat gingerbeer is supposed to be good when you are feeling sick and/or when you can manage them ginger biscuits

ReallyScaryBadKitten · 30/10/2007 15:03

You poor soul What a horrid nightmare for you. I hope you're feeling a lot better now.
/waves magic wand to send the washing fairy over and the nurse fairy to take care of you all.

FunkyGlassSlipupandyouredead · 30/10/2007 16:59

what a nightmare. hope for a speedy recovery for you all.

Bocoreepy · 30/10/2007 18:58

Thank you for all the nice messages.

Stary what is quincy? I thought Quincy was that gruff forensic crime fighter fella who says 'you took a young life and you snuffed it out!' a lot.
