Hi everyone!!

Im driving myself mad and would really appreciate some help or advice.

So long story short i have just had a baby who is now almost 5 months and ive been experiencing some strange symptoms and its giving my such awful anxiety

Ive had a twitching thumb, pins and needles when resting on legs and hands, electric buzz sensations, blurry vision on phone and tv, weakness in legs when holding baby, weird sensations on different patches of skin, my knee feels odd, muscle twitches and ive had this bitter taste on one side of my tongue which doesnt go and is only on one side.

Im due to have a phone appt with my gp but i dont know when and how il even get tested and i cant live like this - i want to enjoy my baby but im going out of my mind!!

Please can someone help or offer advice - anyone have these symptoms and turn out okay? Anyone with ms?

This sounds like anxiety, maybe also magnesium deficiency (the twitching) and maybe b12 deficiency. All easily rectified. I had an mri for ms some years ago, turned out to be b12 and a whole load of anxiety. Also had muscle twitching which was called benign fasciculation syndrome, but really that was just anxiety too. Don’t underestimate the mind body connection.
You’re also probably knackered as you have a new baby.

If I were you I’d supplement with b12 and get some magnesium oil spray - magnesium tablets can give you the runs.

glowingtwig · 27/01/2021 02:34

@r1911 I'm sorry you're going through this horrible worry. Just posting to say that I'm trawling the internet for answers too after experiencing these symptoms- some similar to yours...
Pins and needles in both hands when waking up through the night
Buzzing, fizzy feeling in hands
Random tingling feelings including random tingly itchy feeling above top lip at night
Pins and needles/numbness in left toes when getting out of bed but just for a few paces
Muscle twitches randomly all over my body, calves, thighs, behind knees, biceps, forearms, fingers, tummy, neck - basically everywhere.
Stiff muscles and back pain (back pain really bad at the moment from lifting toddler badly)
Foggy brain and difficulty concentrating.

Like you I'm convinced it's MS and I'm really scared. My GP is good and I have blood tests Thursday for tons of things but I don't think it's a vitamin deficiency as I eat really healthily; she's testing for thyroid and diabetes as well. She did say that it's very likely to be stress and anxiety after suffering from two miscarriages in a short space of time and juggling work and childcare with covid. I told her my fears about degenerative illness and she said 'it's very unlikely' and 'it won't be'.

Really hope you get some answers because the worrying and thinking about it constantly is utterly crippling. Thanks

r1911 · 27/01/2021 10:03

@WilsonMilson thank you for your reply, ive ordered some vitamins - magnesium, b12 and vitamin D so fingers crossed it helps - i really hope its just stress and anxiety but being such an anxious person - im imagining the worst 🙊

@glowingtwig im so sorry that youre going through similar symptoms and worry!! I gt that top lip thing too! And most of the symptoms youre describing. Cant help but wonder if its normal or something more but im so glad your gp is good and is doing some blood tests - fingers crossed you get some answers soon. Like you im also worried about a degenerative illness - we had ivf and waited years to be able to have a baby and now im worried about being too ill to be able to look after him. The worrying is so crippling and impacts daily life but please know im here if you need to vent or talk. Sending you so much positivy for thursday.

@r1911 how are you doing today? I'm not having a good one after waking up with such a numb, strange feeling on the tip of my nose and into the top bit above my lip. I lay in bed last night for about an hour after waking up rubbing at my face with palpitations in such a panic Sad

I feel like this about my little girl. She's only 15 months and we want to try again for a sibling for her. Because of the mc I'm worried it now won't happen and that I should be enjoying every single second with her. And the way I'm feeling is ruining it.

Doctor’s in half an hour for blood tests so at least I'll see another human (apart from DD) today.

Hi everyone - quick update

Im still having the symptoms discussed above but have now started experiencing something which i think is internal tremors on the left side - it feels like buzzing and vibrating and radiates down from hands to arms to back and im really scared. It seems to worse when i move any part of my left side so legs, hand and arm and lasts a few seconda before stopping until i move again, ive also got this altered sensation on left front part of my stomach - does this sound like ms or something else neurological? Im really worrying myself.

The physio appt wont be until 8 weeks time and i dont know how long the wait time is for neurology - im so scared Sad

Hi @r1911
How are you?
I'm having similar symptoms and feeling really worried but I'm also very anxious/stressed at the minute

r1911 · 04/03/2021 12:36

Hey @movingmountainss ive got quite a few threads on here - sorry to anyone whos seen me repeating the same information.

Sorry youre having similar symptoms. I know its a really worrying and anxious time. Im waiting to be seen and have tests done - hopefully wont be too, too long as ive now been referred to neuro. Have you got in touch with your gp?

OP posts:
movingmountainss · 04/03/2021 12:43

@r1911 thank you for relying. I'm so scared and anxious. I've not spoken to GP as I'm too scared and keep thinking I would rather not know but the symptoms are still there SadI do suffer from anxiety so I really hope that's just what is it but can't stop thinking of it. Did neuro say how long you will be waiting? Do you still have symptoms?

movingmountainss · 04/03/2021 12:43

@r1911 have you have covid? I've heard someone talking about similar symptoms to long covid

r1911 · 04/03/2021 13:07

@movingmountainss
Im not sure how long the wait will be but most likely it will be months. Like you, i also have anxiety so its going to be an anxious time but ive been working on not thinking about it too much.

I did pay to see a private neurologist who was lovely but very dismissive and couldnt give me a reason for all my symptoms. She did say i need to have mri scans but I cant afford to pay privately for tests and then again to see her to get results (almost £1000) so am waiting for an appt - so thankful for the nhs. i still have the symptoms daily and havent had covid so it cant be that.

I think if youre worried then do get in touch with your gp. As worrying as it is, its always better to know and like others have said it could be something simple and treated quite quickly and even if it is ms, people have shared such good stories on loads of threads.

I understand how youre feeling, the only way around that is to get it checked Thanks try and discuss it with your gp.

movingmountainss · 04/03/2021 13:13

@r1911 thank you so much, I might try and build up the courage to call GP in the coming weeks. It seems the more I think about it the more I can feel the symptoms. Please keep in touch on how your appointments go Thanks

r1911 · 04/03/2021 18:17

@movingmountainss i can relate to that too - honestly dont wait just get in touch and see what they say/suggest.

I will update when ive had any progress with test/app Thanks

Didn’t want to read and run - but I had pins and needles in 1 arm and was worried about MS. Had a blood test for something unrelated and it turned out to be thyroid deficiency. I’m now on thyroid replacement meds which have cleared up most symptoms...

80sBestYear · 21/05/2021 22:29

@r1911 have you had your mri scan or are you any closer to diagnosis z

r1911 · 22/05/2021 14:49

@Jazzybeats thank you, sorry just saw your reply! Im already on thyroid medication so i dont know if it can still be that?

@80sBestYear hey, im still waiting on my appt. still very scared and still having symptoms

I’m not sure tbh. Some of my symptoms persisted. The GP did a test in the surgery to check my nerve function (poking me with needles etc) which showed that I have a slight tremor too.

So now I am awaiting a nerve conduction study, was meant to be Monday but now in June. The hospital/GPremain unconcerned about MS for me but the symptoms persist so we’ll see what exactly is going on...

My GP was very nice about it all to be fair and very thorough and risk averse in his assessments. Had repeat bloods done too (which show thyroid med is working).
