Quitting Pepsi Max in 2021 Support Thread

NoZoomAtTheInn · 27/12/2020 20:48

Open to anyone who has already quit with their success stories or anyone who also wants to quit.

I’ve tried twice to stop in the past, once by just stopping and once by gradually cutting down. Both times the withdrawal headaches were awful. Have decided this time to speak to GP first to see if there is anything I can take - like smokers get nicotine patches/gum - while I wean myself off it.

I've only just discovered this thread!! My NY resolution was to cut out Coke Zero. I was on 2-3 cans per day. I decided to start off with buying a 1.5l bottle to have at weekends. First few days was headachey but got through it. Managing ok during the week by substituting the fizz with fizzy water and a splash of squash. I've now reduced the 1.5k to three cans at the weekend. I'm going to stick with this strategy for another few weeks as it seems to be working. Will probably try to cut out the third can at weekends eventually.

A whole week! Well done covid !

pickle - keep wrestling! You’ve got this (and remind your DH in no uncertain terms that he needs to support you by NOT buying any of the horrid stuff Wink

scamper beat me to the article in the Guardian. It was interesting to read the same symptoms that we’ve all been posting about

goosey Welcome! Nothing but support here - we’re all rooting for each other. Well done on starting your reducing

@Scampersaur

There’s a really good article in today’s Guardian online about beating a Diet Coke addiction. I’m hoping to stop drinking it altogether this month.
Here's the link to the Guardian article.

Keep going everyone. It is worth it in the end. I went cold turkey to give up Pepsi Max and have not had any for over 5 years. I don't crave it anymore.

strawberry2017 · 03/02/2021 20:36

Coming up to 2 weeks tomorrow no coke or Pepsi and I've not added salt to my food for 3 days.
I'm really proud of myself.

Doing well everyone!

Hueandcry · 03/02/2021 20:46

Day 20 with only a couple of wee mishaps.
Want to break the habit before/if I go back to work as it's a bad habit there.

Well done everyone, keep it up

NoZoomAtTheInn · 03/02/2021 21:32

Well done strawberry and hue!

@NoZoomAtTheInn brilliant, you must be chuffed with yourself

Day 21 for me. Not craving it any more

Gooseysgirl · 05/02/2021 10:57

Have had a good few days, had no fizz at all yesterday - not even fizzy squash. Have my three cans in the fridge ready for the weekend. I think I'll reduce to two the following weekend. Drinking a lot more water which can only be a good thing!
(Day 36 of reducing)

NoZoomAtTheInn · 05/02/2021 21:26

I’m so happy for all of us!

Well done Hue! Look how far you’ve come in such a short time. You must be thrilled that you’ve got past the craving

Your reducing plan sounds like it’s going great goosey - good on you!

It does give me a thrill each day to look at the thread to see how everyone’s doing and to post my daily check in and add another day onto my total.

Thanks @NoZoom, feels weird, the headaches seem like so long ago but it's only been 3 weeks. You're doing so well!

Gooseysgirl · 06/02/2021 11:19

guardian article
DH just sent me this link, very interesting reading about different people's experiences of soft drink addiction. I had no idea that Trump was addicted... certainly provides me with a little bit more motivation to quit 😄

namechangefail2020 · 06/02/2021 11:42

I had no idea this was a thing. Good luck to you all

NoZoomAtTheInn · 07/02/2021 21:02

Has everyone had a good weekend? goosey and Hue, thanks for those interesting links, definitely shows us that we’re not on our own

I missed my daily check in yesterday so here goes today’s

Been nearly 2 weeks for me.

Bizarrely dh hasnt noticed which seeing as I used to drink about a litre a day is surprising. 🤷‍♀️

NoZoomAtTheInn · 08/02/2021 15:00

Well done Covid! That is bizarre that your DH hasn’t noticed!

How are we all doing? Will post my daily update later but wanted to say I’ve made a decision about the money I’m saving. I’ve done a monthly donation to the www.britishhedgehogs.org.uk/. I’m feeling even better now knowing the money I wasted on that horrid stuff is helping hedgehogs

Hueandcry · 08/02/2021 16:38

Haven't been feeling well the last couple of days but pretty much snowed in so no temptation Smile

NoZoomAtTheInn · 08/02/2021 19:51

The weather is on your side Hue :). Sorry to hear you’ve not been well, is that due to giving up the horrid stuff or a cold?

OP posts:
Hueandcry · 08/02/2021 20:30

Had a raging temperature so took myself off for a covid test yesterday despite the snow. Thankfully it came back negative. Still feeling wretched & no idea why but thankful I can stay home & warm until I feel better.

NoZoomAtTheInn · 08/02/2021 21:36

So glad that was negative for you hue. It must be the ‘normal’ cold virus. Now I have a question - Are you all cosy with the dog by a roaring fire with a hot whisky? Or snuggled in bed with the dog and electric blanket and a hot whisky? Grin

OP posts:
Hueandcry · 08/02/2021 21:45

Haha @NoZoom you know me too well Smile Sadly no roaring fire but a wee hot toddy always helps & my dog never leaves my side when I'm feeling unwell, it's like he knows

NoZoomAtTheInn · 08/02/2021 21:50

Where would we be without our dogs? It’s a pure true love isn’t it?
