Hi All

I'm in desperate need of some help / advice.
I Have been constipated since Monday. Was able to pass stools on Monday / Tuesday but that feeling of something still present. But since Wednesday it's been extremely difficult and feel as if I'm
Completely blocked and when I use the toilet tiny amount of diarrhoea escape (Sorry TMI). I have had Movicol twice since Wednesday. Spoke to my Gp yesterday and he prescribed Glycerol suppository. I used one last night and still no luck. Am extremely uncomfortable Sad. I can feel that one stone like piece stuck in my rectum. I have tried everything possible but not able to get it out. Any advice will be valuable.
Thank you!!

Should also mention that I have been bleeding a lot whenever I try to use the toilet. Extremely painful as well.

That sounds really very uncomfortable OP. If the suppository hasn't worked I'd talk to the GP.

In the meantime, have you tried dried figs? I eat them for the calcium but they are also good at keeping everything moving IYKWIM Smile

You need to speak to GP again if you still haven’t been. Is blood bright red, you could have piles, so would need medication for these. They are painful. Things to try, drinking loads of warm water, walking to get things moving. Up your fruit and fibre intake.

That's true too. I did a Squat Challenge recently and that definitely gets things moving. Walking or a bit of gentle yoga might help too.

IrisAtwood · 11/12/2020 07:39

I have found the Squatty Potty to be absolutely great. www.squattypotty.com/

I’ve had constipation all of my life and discovering this product and Movicol have things so much easier.

You need at least a couple of movicol sachets every day. Possibly more.
1 suppository is unlikely to work, usual practice is 2 and you need to hold them for as close to 20 minutes. You might need to repeat the process.
Google the ERIC website and give the free help line a call.
If you are really bunged up, more fibre is the last thing you need. You need to clear the blockage, not add to it.

Literallyfedup · 11/12/2020 07:54

Have you tried sodium picosulfate (dulcolax Pico liquid) , it always works without fail and you don't get abdominal pain as it is very gentle.
If you want to use suppositories then may be you are not keeping it in for longer. A suppository will give you an urge in first 5 minutes but it needs atleast 15 minutes to work properly ( more than that if you have impaction). So try not to go on first urge. Lay on your side, find a distraction and give it time. Find a raised platform to rest your feet or sit without the toilet seat and raise your heels a little.
Hope you get relief soon.

Thank you all so much. I managed to go to my gp this afternoon. He examined and said that I have 2 tears and my rectum muscles are tightening as body's defence mechanism. He said it's going to take time and will be painful and have to try and not push and damage further.
He has asked me to continue with 2 movicol daily and suppository. And also given a proctedyl suppository as an anaesthetic. But it's so so painful and really struggling. SadSad

Thank you all for the great suggestions. Yes I kept the suppository for 20 Mins last night but no luck. Today after the doc did the physical examination , I passed very tiny bits of poo. This is terrible , won't wish it on even the worst enemies.

You need 2 suppositories at at a time and probably 2 or 3 goes. Poor you. It is horrid.

Bumbleb79 · 11/12/2020 19:45

Thank you. What will happen if I'm
Unable to
Pass stools at all ? I'm a bit worried. Today is day 3 - bunged up. Except for tiny tiny bits.

Bumbleb79 · 11/12/2020 19:46

If you have had it how many days have you gone without doing poo.

Keep going with the suppositories and movicol. I think you will get there. Each time you use the suppositories the rock will soften and break up a bit.

Bumbleb79 · 11/12/2020 19:51

Thank you so much for your reassuring words. !

If you have any difficulty passing urine you need to get medical advice, but I am sure it won't come to that.

endofthelinefinally · 11/12/2020 20:00

And, sorry tmi, but you need to push the suppositories as far in as you can, around behind the rock if you can. It is grim I know, but it is important.

Lellochip · 11/12/2020 21:09

If I were you, I'd up the movicol, you can take up to 8 sachets a day if you're impacted. (But am not a doctor so take no responsibility for this advice Grin ) - full dose might be rather excessive after only a few days but 3 or 4 sachets might get things moving where 2 doesn't?

Bumbleb79 · 11/12/2020 22:50

Thank you endoftheline. That's what I did yesterday but maybe it wasn't enough.

OP posts:
Bumbleb79 · 11/12/2020 22:52

Thank you Lellochip. Yes It makes sense to increase it. I was told I can go upto 3.

I had a very bsd experience following a general anaesthetic for a very long operation. Whatever they gave me solidified the entire contents of my gut.
It took 10 days, a whole box of glycerine suppositories and more lactulose than I can remember. This was 30 odd years ago. I think movicol is better. Sorry for tmi.

Josiemac93 · 11/12/2020 23:07

Ohhh that's sounds awful so sorry to hear you're struggling with this. One thing I'd suggest along side any medical advice from your gp is at a bare minimum 2 litres of water, no pushing when you go to the loo, and try and soak some chia seeds over night in water and neck it. Chia seeds are amazing at helping with constipation. Chia seeds soaked in prune juice or coconut milk would be even better. Good luck x

endofthelinefinally · 11/12/2020 23:10

Hot orange squash is good.

Bumbleb79 · 12/12/2020 08:33

That sounds terrible endofthelinefinally.

I have just realised that what I'm having is cosmocol and not movicol. Are these very different ? Is movicol better than cosmocol ?

Thanks Josiemac.
