poor thing - hope she's better v soon

Carmenere · 21/10/2007 18:12

I'm very sorry to hear this LVOC, yellow eyes is indicative of a problem with the liver so hospital is the best place for her.

littleNonSpecificHolidaylapin · 21/10/2007 18:13

Jaundice is a common side-effect of gallstones apparently (hence the yellow eyes)

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 21/10/2007 18:14

could it be linked to the gallstones? i dont wanht to google.

Saturn74 · 21/10/2007 18:14

blimey your family don't have much luck {{{{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}}}}

littleNonSpecificHolidaylapin · 21/10/2007 18:16

"About 1 in 3 women, and 1 in 6 men, form gallstones at some stage in their life. They become more common with increasing age. The risk of forming gallstones increases with pregnancy, obesity, and if you take certain medicines."

Have had a quick google and it sounds as though at worst she may have to have a small op, but they generally try to treat them with other methods first.

Blondehelen · 21/10/2007 18:19

jaundice is very common in gallstones. called obstructive jaundice, generally means that a stone is in the common bile duct meaning the bile can't get through, hence the jaundice. Hope she is ok

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 21/10/2007 18:25

they are talking about removing her gall bladder but werent going to do it for a couple of months as atm she has an infection i think.

OP posts:
Hekate · 21/10/2007 18:26

poor thing. give her my love.

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 21/10/2007 20:44

there is a stone lodged in her liver. if it hasnt dislodged by the morning they are looking at operating. they still dont want to remove the gall bladder as she still has an infection.

OP posts:
minorityrules · 21/10/2007 20:59

I've had this

Had a gallstone stuck in the bile duct which caused jaundice, yellow eyes being where it was noticed first

I was taken into hospital and put on a saline drip and was nil by mouth. After a few days, (not sure why they waited a few days but I was pregnant at the time so maybe that was why) I had a procedure that I can't remember the name of. I was sedated and an endoscope went down my mouth, to the bile duct and removed the offending stone. I don't remember any of it, thanks to sedation

I then had gallbladder removed when I got over 16 weeks pregnant

Warn her that until the jaundice goes away, expect to be very very very itchy!

Hope she feels better soon

belgo · 22/10/2007 12:26

how is she today LVOC?

saralou · 22/10/2007 12:38

the op minorityrules had is an ercp (but don't ask me what it actually stands for!)

hope your sisters better soon!!

J20DemondaughterandDevilbaby · 22/10/2007 12:54

poor lisa- if you get chance will you give her my love and best wishes

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 23/10/2007 09:59

things arent too great. the hospital thinks her pancreas is now involved, and they are taking it v v v seriously. some sort of infection. they are doing another scan today and seeing what to do next.

OP posts:
dooley1 · 23/10/2007 09:59

oh no

DANCESwithHughJackman · 23/10/2007 10:03

Does she have pancreatitis? I had it (caused by an escaped gallstone) and I became jaundiced as the stone blocking the pancreas caused my whole system to back up to my liver(so to speak!) It is serious but they dosed me for a week with antibiotics, tonnes of IV fluid and no food and I recovered fine. I had my gall bladder out about 6 weeks later and then after that I was 100% fine.

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 23/10/2007 10:05

thats it dances. (didnt want to get terminology wrong )

she is badly infected, and hospital are wqite concerned.
