What can cause sudden, constant indigestion ?

So the last few months I’ve had bouts of acid indigestion and heartburn that have become increasingly noticeable and annoying.
Never suffered before in my life apart from during pregnancy, when it’s been a nightmare and I’ve had it all the way through each time.
I’m single and not pregnant.
Every single time I eat I have it. Small amount/ large amount/ bland / spicy... doesn’t matter. I’m taking something most days to manage it.
I haven’t changed my diet and I don’t seem to have any noticeable digestive issues other than this. Any ideas?

Make sure you have a reservation at the inn for Christmas Eve.

^😂😂😂

Can you get a GP appointment? There are a number of things it could be, but cancer is one of them, so certainly worth pushing for a referral to rule it out. Have you had any weight loss?

Buzzthedragon · 30/11/2020 16:37

But seriously I’m quite worried!

No noticeable weight loss really. I’m trying to shift a few pounds though cos lockdown, and certainly this is stopping me eating as I normally would.
I get quite full after eating.
Lately I’ve noticed more black chin hairs Confused
Could it be hormonal? Could I have a cyst? Peri? Am approaching 40 .

What are your exact symptoms?

I have had something similar for last month. GP prescribed a month of omeprazole which hasn’t had no effect so next is a test for H Pylori bacteria

Paddingtonthebear · 30/11/2020 16:45

*has had no effect

Buzzthedragon · 30/11/2020 16:47

Heartburn / acid indigestion immediately after eating. Every time .Beginnings of a beard Confused

Can’t say the two are related but I have read that indigestion is a sign of perimenopause.
I feel quite young for that but do feel as though I aged a hundred years in lockdown.
I don’t sleep well.. insomnia. That’s a recent development too.

I had h pylori once years ago after a trip to Africa but it was horrendous and I constantly had well, the shits. And stomach pains too. This doesn’t feel like that so much

Gallstones?
Does the feeling sometimes feel like you have cramps but near your chest?
I can't really describe it but it's a gripping pain. My experience was the occasional bout but towards the end I was getting it every day after I'd had my lunch.
Also try and see if you look jaundiced (I thought I had a lovely summer glow 😳) which can be a sign but not always.

YellowPostItPad · 30/11/2020 16:56

Coeliac?

Paddingtonthebear · 30/11/2020 16:56

My symptoms are feeling of fullness in throat, slight heartburn/burny feeling coming home into my beck from my chest, but not sure if that’s what it is as never had heartburn before. I have it whether I do or don’t eat or drink anything. Nothing makes it worth but nothing improves it either. It’s not there when I wake up though. Only after about ten minutes of being awake.

Buzzthedragon · 30/11/2020 17:00

I am coeliac . It’s could be relevant but I’ve eaten accordingly since I was a teenager , so it seems strange for things to feel so different now

Buzzthedragon · 30/11/2020 17:02

Thanks @abstractzebra I have no pain at all really, just that horrible acid indigestion.

Anyone experienced indigestion as a symptom of perimenopause ?

OP posts:
TheSilentStars · 30/11/2020 17:19

It could be something as "simple" as gastritis. I think once you've had h.pylori you're more prone to it. I had h.pylori about 10 years ago and it was only after eating and only in the upper abdomen. Didn't affect my bowels at all (though I know it can- just saying it might be that again)
Reading up on digestive things (I've possibly got gallstones so feel I'm becoming a Google expert Grin) it's also possible to have too little stomach acid, and symptoms are pretty much the same as too much! (I was on panteprazole and then did the bicarb test- not a terribly scientific one but an indication- drink a glass of bicarb first thing in the morning and see how long it takes you to burp- the longer it takes, the more likely it's low stomach acid- it took me about 5 minutes)

Buzzthedragon · 30/11/2020 17:22

Oooh interesting @TheSilentStars I will try.

TheSilentStars · 30/11/2020 17:38

It was quite interesting! Iirc with high acid you burp within a minute. (It was on a thread here- I didn't even know low acid was a thing- and of course the ppi pills the doctor seems to prescribe everyone make it worse!)

Gwenhwyfar · 30/11/2020 18:27

Isn't it one of the things you get as you get older. I've been taking omeprazole every day for a while and other people I know in their 40s and 50s often get acid as well.
Interesting about the low acid.

Buzzthedragon · 30/11/2020 20:38

Perhaps it is just part of getting older , I’m not sure?

I could have written your post OP and have been struggling all year.

In the end I went to my GP fearful that it could be something serious and am awaiting a Gastro appointment.

However in the meantime I have been carefully monitoring what I am eating and have picked up a number of potential causes.

Although I am a real decaf coffee addict, I quickly identified an issue. No coffee now after lunch. I am also Coeliac but now seem to have added a dairy or lactose reaction to the mix and in addition can’t seem to tolerate cruciferous veg. I love Broccoli / Kale etc, but they suddenly don’t love me.

The difference on days with little coffee and without dairy and Broccoli is very, very, marked.

Buzzthedragon · 30/11/2020 21:00

@inmylifeilovedthemall you are exactly right...
Coffee exacerbates symptoms dramatically. Will try to reduce dairy and see how I go. Broccoli has never really agreed with me so I’ll avoid that with ease.

OP posts:
Gwenhwyfar · 30/11/2020 21:05

Broccoli and similar veg are hard to digest.

I know that caffeine and chocolate are supposed to cause acid, but I'm not sure they do for me.
Wine definitely does, but there's no way I'm giving that up.

gamerchick · 30/11/2020 21:08

My first thought was gallstones as well. It was chronic indigestion that I went to the GP for.
