Under boob rash for months and getting worse

I’ve had rashes under my boobs for ages. They didn’t really hurt or anything but I used talc and medicated powder to try and get rid because I’m sure it’s just a sweat rash. It’s become more itchy and sore in the last few days. Any idea what I should do? I feel like keeping them dry would be best but I want to use cream now instead of talc to treat the soreness and itch but I don’t know what’s best. Thanks

Sudocrem is really good for this.

Add a few drops of tea tree and/or lavender to bathwater.

I’ve had this on and off for ages, it’s called intertrigo I think - a fungal
Infection. I use Caneston Hydrocortisone which is a mix of steroid and anti fungal cream - it does clear it up but it often comes back. Mine is ok at the moment fingers crossed.

Acinonyx2 · 18/11/2020 12:53

I get this. I got some Trimovate cream from the dr - it's strong stuff, you hardly need any - a tube lasts for ages. Another great tip I got from someone - put a rolled/folled tissue under each breast before your bra - keeps it dry and really helps. I use had a tissue each. The sweat rash easily becomes a worse rash if you don't knock it back- so best treat it properly.

PuppyMonkey · 18/11/2020 12:57

I’ve given up on bras tbh, they made it so much worse. I just wear 100% cotton vest tops instead. I am small of nork, so works for me!

SpamIAm · 18/11/2020 12:59

Thrush is quite common there. You're best going to a pharmacy and asking their advice.

UnbeatenMum · 18/11/2020 13:01

Daktacort is good but do go to your GP if an over the counter cream doesn't work, they can prescribe things like a course of oral fluconazole.

DahliaMacNamara · 18/11/2020 13:02

I get that sometimes, especially in the summer, even if I've used medicated talc etc. I find it disappears after a day or two with any standard anti-fungal cream. Just let the cream dry off a bit before applying talc to dry it fully before getting dressed.

Isadora2007 · 18/11/2020 13:03

You need actual medical Advice. If it’s fungal you need a totally different treatment than if it is infected.

StillSmallVoice · 18/11/2020 13:04

I would second Sudocrem. (First discovered it as a nappy rash cream and found it cures all sorts of things)

FloraFlamingo · 18/11/2020 13:05

Using talc will just result in a sweaty paste under your boobs and make it worse

Try an anti fungal cream, switch from a bra to a comfortable crop top, keep it dry as you can and it should clear up.

Cleanerdilemma · 18/11/2020 13:09

I use canestan hydrocortisone when it gets really sore too. Usually clears it up in a couple of days. Then generally I use daktarin talc after a bath or shower to ensure it is properly dry. I will also use it in the morning if I am likely to be sweating that day, large of nork and it’s easy to get under boob sweat. That usually means that having to use the hydrocortisone is pretty unusual.

WindsorBlues · 18/11/2020 13:09

My mum had this for a few years and the GP wouldn't give her anything for it just advised it was normal during menopause and would clear up itself eventually.

She tried not wearing a bra, talc, suda cream, sunbeds and nothing would clear it up. We where in holiday and I gave her a drop of my hydrocortisone cream that I use for my eczema and it cleared it up for her in a few days and has never came back.

AnnaMagnani · 18/11/2020 13:09

As a previous poster has said it's intertrigo. The treatment is Canesten hydrocortisone, as much time bra free as possible and keeping the area as dry as possible.

Then going for a bra fitting as you are probably in the wrong size.

PuppyMonkey · 18/11/2020 13:10

You need the hydrocortisone as well as anti fungal cream if it has got enflamed - Caneston hydrocortisone is combined cream which works really we’ll for intertrigo.

bluestripeymug · 18/11/2020 13:10

I really recommend using an athlete’s foot cream as apparently it is the same fungus that causes both conditions. I use the Boot’s one which is non-greasy and absorbed very quickly. And let air circulate under the breast whenever possible. I will try the tissue trick - thanks!

Mylittlepony374 · 18/11/2020 13:11

Canesten

Craftypuss · 18/11/2020 13:15

The mammogram nurse, seeing I had a rash like that, gave me a firm telling off (but kindly) for using talc, and recommended dactarin - the stuff you use for athletes foot. It most definitely works!!
She explained that the situations are similar - moist, warm, skin against skin, and that the talc can make it worse as it's drying effect can cause more irritation. I'd used talc, and sudocrem, previously - this is much more effective.

Bakedbeanhead · 18/11/2020 13:19

Second the dactarin cream, I had to get it on prescription though, cleared mine up within a day or so. Now I use a talc and just try to keep it really clean an dry x

PuppyMonkey · 18/11/2020 13:20

You can get Caneston hydrocortisone over the counter at the chemist.

AnnaMagnani · 18/11/2020 13:20

By dry as possible I mean air dry, not covered in talc, Sudocrem or other concoctions.

I used to get this. I'd go to a pharmacist and see what they say. I've needed steroid cream and an antibiotic cream to get rid of it.
theconstantinoplegardener · 18/11/2020 13:25

It sounds like a fungal rash, so application of one of the anti-fungal creams mentioned above should help. Don't use talc!

It's vital to keep the affected area as cool as possible, and minimise sweating. Are you overweight with large breasts? If so, could you try to lose some weight? Smaller breasts tend to get less hot and sweaty underneath.

Do your current bras allow your breasts to sag? If so, it might be time to get some new, supportive bras (or crop tops) that hold your breasts up so the undersides of your breasts have minimal contact with your chest below the breasts.

Try to find bras, crop tops and clothes made of cotton rather than synthetics, so sweat can evaporate. Wash them frequently in a hot wash to kill off fungal spores.

nomorespaghetti · 18/11/2020 16:39

I had this when breastfeeding, the doctor prescribed a steroid and anti fungal cream, which helped, but whenever I tried to cut down on using it the rash came back. In the end I gave up on bras and started wearing 100% cotton crop top type things. That sorted it.

MrsMoastyToasty · 18/11/2020 18:07

Athletes foot cream and a clean bra (with a high cotton content. ) after every wash.

Cassiega · 01/06/2024 20:42

Sudocrem has made mine worse which I why I googled it and found this great thread.. going to try the antifungal cream & talc & rolled up tissue tips..
