Is anyone out there not constantly EXHAUSTED?

And if so, what is your secret?

I'm early 30s, work pt, young son. Just looking for any tips to not constantly feel deeply exhausted. I've felt like this for what seems like forever. I'm naturally an evening person but I need to get up early so I don't think that's help. I don't even feel like an early night would fix it.

I also don't know if this is just the way I should expect to feel.

Tips please!
Thank you

Give up sugar - it makes a massive difference to energy levels.

PolarnOPirate · 09/11/2020 19:16

Are you taking anything? Iron? Multivitamin? Floradix? Spatone? Might be worth checking if you’re deficient in something! But yeah I’m pretty knackered too 😄 could just be general lifestyle stuff.

Have you done this? I have no idea what I'd eat when I'm in a rush. How quick did you see the benefits?

Are you taking vitamin D? On any contraceptives?

Vitamin D. Nothing else flagged up when I've had bloods done previously. Good point though

Not on birth control. Vit D yes as had been told I was deficient.

Taking vit b12 made a massive difference for me. But as above, a multivitamin, iron etc all worth a try.

SilkieRabbits · 09/11/2020 19:24

Now I am in late 40s but at that age I wasn't - I think difference was I exercised a lot then (swimming) which is hard to motivate yourself to start and closed now I think but it does build up energy levels. Worth checking things like iron levels - I'm low in folate etc which doesn't help.

doadeer · 09/11/2020 19:25

It can take a long time for supplements to kick in.

I was exhausted and I got the contraceptive injection and it really helped.

Stonecrop · 09/11/2020 19:38

I think you might be me! Sorry no tips!

PolarnOPirate · 09/11/2020 19:39

Agree re sugar as well. It’s easy after the first week or 2.

flossletsfloss · 09/11/2020 19:40

How much exercise do you get OP?

Lottle · 09/11/2020 19:45

@flossletsfloss

How much exercise do you get OP?
Not much. I was building up to running 5k. I got to about 2.5 miles but then got an injury. Then I got covid and chest pain and injury hasn't gone away. I can do bits of walking

Could you let me know what you eat, especially for snacks? Can you eat fruit?

Watching - I’m shattered

CrazyFoxLady · 09/11/2020 19:53

Totally agree about cutting down on sugar. I've eaten crap for the last few days and feel exhausted, no energy etc. Going to get back on the wagon tomorrow! I find if I eat well, I then get better quality sleep and feel less knackered. Meanwhile, a giant tube of orange smarties is calling me... Confused

piglet81 · 09/11/2020 19:55

Thyroid? I’ve recently discovered I have an underactive thyroid, which explains fatigue as well as a million other symptoms.

Hope you're ok. My mum has that too. Pain in the butt. I've been checked for it before and it all came back normal.

I know this sounds incredibly daft but what is your water intake like? I used to genuinely cry with tiredness after lunch at work. I said it to a friend who questioned me about my water intake. I realised on a good day I might have had a few mouthfuls before lunch. When I increased my intake I noticed such a difference. That bone crushing tiredness went.

I'm going to give it a try. What do you count as eating "crap"? Would a cheese sandwich be in the crap leagues? Or full blown dominos and kebab style?

There's water in tea, right? :D

Yes I'm permanently exhausted.
I could fall sleep at any given time if I could!

I've often thought about talking to my gp about it but think that they wouldn't be interested...it would feel a bit strange and like I was wasting their time if I went and said that I'm always tired. I'd expect this face Hmm and then feel really embarrassed!

BefuddledPerson · 09/11/2020 20:00

I don't personally do no sugar, yes I eat fruit and occasionally cake Shock, but I definitely agree lower sugar is better. So wholefoods and whole grains and healthier foods all help.

Also try to do more, I know it seems hard, but a hobby or a walk or a phone call with a friend are all better than watching telly.

And then early nights.

I'm tired too!

BefuddledPerson · 09/11/2020 20:01

Oh yes water too! Ditch caffeine.

ScrapThatThen · 09/11/2020 20:01

You also have a young child, busiest time of life. But yeah, less sugar, five a day, more exercise, less alcohol - all the boring things but they do actually really help.
