Think I have shingles

ElJMol · 01/11/2020 23:32

On Friday evening I showered and when I was towel drying myself, underneath my right breast and around the side of the breast it was so painful to the touch. The breast isn't hot and can't feel any obvious lumps.
Since Friday it has got worse, little red blood blisters and so so painful. I didn't sleep a wink last night with the pain. Does this sound like shingles? Anyone had this before?

I have it atm, I started a thread earlier, I also have it under and over part of my right breast.
It does sound like you have it. Give your GP a ring tomorrow.

DigitalChristmas · 01/11/2020 23:35

@ElJMol yes please call 111 this evening as you need to try and get antivirals ASAP. I’ve had shingles twice. I’ve had antivirals both times and been fortunate enough to not be left with long term nerve pain as a result.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 01/11/2020 23:36

Is the pain/blisters in a line? It does sound like shingles to me but you need to see your GP tomorrow (or have a phone convo, I know GP appts are like hens teeth).

DramaAlpaca · 01/11/2020 23:37

From what you describe it certainly could be. I think you should try to talk to your GP in the morning as you might need antivirals. They are effective in stopping shingles being too bad, but need to be taken within 72 hours of the rash appearing. In the meantime, take painkillers.

ElJMol · 01/11/2020 23:38

The pain is like a shooting, burning, stabbing pain. Honestly didn't sleep a wink last night as soon as I moved or breast moved, it was agony. It was the longest night ever. I generally feel unwell also, can't put my finger on it. Just feel yuck! I will ring my GP in the morning.
Thank you x

A few in a line and then small red raised ones all over the right side of my breast and underneath it.

You need the anti virals ASAP. Ring 111 now!

FizzyPink · 01/11/2020 23:42

I had it last week and yes it sounds like shingles. You need to get on the antivirals ASAP and also start combining cocodamol and ibuprofen.
I didn’t sleep for about 5 nights and it was hell but honestly getting the right pain relief made it so much easier.
Also try to sleep with a bag of peas on the rash. Unfortunately mine was all over my body which made it more difficult but the coldness did help

I've had shingles twice, under my right arm. The spots will be in a line. But it's the pain that is very distinct. I would describe it as a pricking sensation? The second time I had it, 15 years later in my twenties, I went to the GP and told them I knew it was shingles. She was amazed that I had managed to self diagnose. But the pain is so unique, I knew instantly even though I was 10 the first time.

Are you really run down? Shingles develops when you body is in crisis. Least that's what I have been told and it's been the case when I've had it. First time I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes so blood sugar out if control. Second time, sugars out of control due to stress of uni and buying my first house.

user1471530109 · 01/11/2020 23:44

Admittedly it was years ago now, but I wasn't prescribed antivirals for either case. I do however think you need to see a GP and tell the triage team you suspect shingles.

INeedNewShoes · 01/11/2020 23:48

It does sound as though it could be shingles.

My GP doesn't prescribe anti-virals for shingles unless you have a compromised immune system for some reason so I don't think its worth traipsing off to OOH tonight, especially in Covid times. Just phone your GP in the morning.

I was very fortunate to have a mild case and the pain only lasted a couple of weeks. After that the area felt weird/sensitive for quite a few weeks but not in a terrible way.

Dontsayyouloveme · 01/11/2020 23:51

These were mine from last year. Only about 7 on the left side of my back, right under my bra strap! But boy, the burning and shooting pain and incredible soreness was really really bad and radiated all way round the front into my left boob. Had to take painkillers at night to get a Vaguely reasonable amount of sleep. There was no way I could wear a bra and a t-shirt Was so painful. But I felt fine!

I wasn’t prescribed antibiotics virals and was lucky enough not to have any residual nerve pain.

Hope you feel better soon ☺️

I've also had an upset tummy too. Really bad headache yesterday and today but this pain in and on my right breast is something I have never experienced before. I am so tired but don't think I be sleeping much tonight again as the pain is unreal. Thanks all for your advice. I'll be ringing 8.30am to my Gp surgery.

Yes i have been feeling exhausted and I'm a driving instructor so we were off work for 5 months and since being back in July it's been so busy with very little time off. I'm in Wales so on 2 week lockdown so have been off last week but Thursday, didn't feel right but couldn't say why, then Friday showered and the pain then in my boob. Then yesterday headaches and no sleep and upset tummy today also. I am so tired but this pain does not let up. Have tried brufen and paracetamol all I have tbh.

Definitely call the GP in the morning. You definitely haven't had covid, have you? I know not everything is connected to covid but wondering if your body has been fighting something which has triggered it to develop shingles. Just checking you've had chicken pox? You can't have shingles if you've never had chickenpox.

Dontsayyouloveme · 02/11/2020 00:02

On the left side of my back just under my shoulder blade, where my bra sits!

Sounds v much like Shingles to me, given you’re exhausted! I’m always shattered but mine would have been as a result of stress.

FizzyPink · 02/11/2020 00:04

Mine definitely got a lot bigger after 4-5 days. This was it on day 6. It was also around the side of each boob and under my arms down to my elbows.

The only good news I can give you is that it does get better. Day 8 and 9 the pain was bare able enough that I managed to sleep all day and all night. But you do need strong pain relief

As my god bless your heart, mine is like that but few of those marks not anywhere near that many and under my arm hurts too, like sensitive to touch.

Not had a temperature or anything no cough or loss of taste or smell. Don't think it's Covid.

I started a thread last night.

I have had a sunburn-like pain, around my left shoulder blade that has spread to under my armpit and the side of my left boob, since Friday. I felt under the weather Thursday and more so on Friday (headache, tired). But no rash yet so don't know if it is shingles - how long does it take for the rash to develop?

MellowMelly · 02/11/2020 06:48

Wow, so many people with shingles at the moment! I’ve just got over my second bout (2 attacks in 5 weeks). GP’s didn’t call me back in time to give me the antivirals. My most painful outbreak of them ever was from under my boob and round to the back so definitely get some medication if you can.

@Theromanempire
Between 1-5 days.

Nyancat · 02/11/2020 06:57

I have them at the minute, get on to your gp asap, oddly I know of a lot of people who've had them recently. Mine is on my face, Ive had three weeks of antivirals and whilst they dealt with the rash, it spread to my eye and I'm now dealing with post herpetic neuralgia which is horrific. Speak to your gp about proper paim relief, paracetamol/ibuprofen and codeine are fairly useless for nerve pain, they can prescribe amitriptyline, gabapentin or pregablin. I'm now 5 weeks in and still in huge amounts of pain, so have massive sympathy for you. I think I've been really unlucky with where mine is on my face and head, I hope you get sorted and pain under control soon.

ElJMol · 02/11/2020 17:45

I've been to the GP it is shingles and started on the antiviral drugs 5 times a day for 1 week. Didn't help me with pain relief said paracetamol and ibuprofen. Still not slept much at all and hoping these tablets kick in soon.
Thank you everyone ❤️ xx
