dh is posting for me
I started getting concerned about his rapid breathing, so popped down to A&E this afternoon to get him checked out. The breathing aund the pulse are too fast, and the X-ras shows shadows (dh: little, nothing to find in blood test yet). They think he is possibly just starting pneumonia, so are giving antibiotics for 3 days initially. If we're lucky we'll be allowed home after that.
Plaese send get-well vibes, or prayer if you're that way inclined, and spare a thought for ds 1 too, that he hopefully doesn't find it all too upsetting.

(dh: ds1 had a long day, several hours with me in the backpack, picking up a pram for ds2, visiting grandparents, long bath and then going to A&E, berolina and babybrother, falling asleep after 10 during dh's failing attempt to plead for a bit more waiting for a burp after breastfeeding because ds2 sleeps in this "fish-bowl" and looks like cable-connected - dh was foolish, stupid and too less sensitive enough to argue for a try, so that berolina and ds2 can sleep a little longer during the night-breast feedings; berolina fears ds1 can't cope with the minimum 3 day mama has to stay with little brother in hospital; doctor says ds2 is not in a life-threatening situation/condition, but berolina was right to come, because breathing is not as it should be; he can't foresee, how fast antibiotic-therapy will be effective, but thinks, berolina was fast enough there for preventing a real pneumonia)

AitchTwoOh · 16/10/2007 16:26

oh goodness i've only just seen this, i'd left a message on your other thread asking how you'd got on at the docs. you must be so relieved that you listened to that internal niggle... well done. in fact well done the bero family, you all sound like you've been troupers. so glad that he's getting better.

JackieNo · 16/10/2007 16:31

I'd missed this - glad things are improving.

berolina · 17/10/2007 20:07

We are home. They let us out at 4pm, straight after babybero's last dose of ABs. The letter for his paed says 'neonatal infection' as diagnosis and that the X-ray was actually clear . They did a cardiac ultrasound this morning. He has a minor 'hole' (if I understood them correctly - something which should have closed over prenatally hasn't yet) which needs checking in 3 months. Now he's asleep in my arms, breathing peacefully - and I'm all wound up and on the alert for rapid breathing Had a bit of an attack of nerves just before we left hospital - the tension and worry all came out, I suppose - and can't quite shake it off. But it is so good to be home.

He managed to gain 190g (nearly 7oz, I think!) while in there, despite being ill He's now 1kg over birthweight, at 25 days old! I had World's Slowest Gainer with ds1 and so can't quite blieve this

bero, I am so pleased for you.

Is it the foramen ovale that they found open? Ds had that.

berolina · 17/10/2007 20:13

Can't remember shall have a look at letter when I dare put ds2 down... Auf jeden Fall they weren't worried about it at all.

TrickorTreat · 17/10/2007 20:13

Ummmm. It was.

until he learnt how to undo it......

I'll persevere though.

ChorusLine · 17/10/2007 20:13

Fabulous news Bero x

MynamesDaveIswimlikeafish · 17/10/2007 20:14

Bero - glad baby Bero is home. The 'hole' will be something called a PDA I expect.PDA It's a sort of 'leftover' from the foetal circulation and means that they get a bit too much blood to the lungs which can make them breathless. Hope it closes soon and he's fighting fit.

The hole in the heart thing is quite common apparently, and usually has closed up by 6 months of age, btw.

berolina · 17/10/2007 20:16

ToT - oh dear - I was fairly confident. ds1 can do his up, but undoing is beyond him. Wonder if there's a way to fix it somehow so he can't?

Dave - PDA rings a bell (or might that be because it's also German for epidural ?) He hasn't had the weight gain probs though, and the oxygenation was perfect throughout.

Welcome home, bero and babybero. xxx

emkana · 17/10/2007 20:22

The PDA one sounds a bit scarier than the one I had in mind actually.

The foramen ovale is still open in 20 % of the adult population apparently and is nothing to worry about.

Would be interesting which one it is for baby bero!

Megglevampire · 17/10/2007 20:24

Wishing baby Bero all the best.

xx

berolina · 17/10/2007 20:27

em's right - it's the foramen ovale, at least the abbreviation they've used indicates that.

So glad you're home berolina. Hope all goes well now for ds2. Bet ds1 and MrBero were pleased to have you home!
