Baby Bero is in hospital

dh is posting for me
I started getting concerned about his rapid breathing, so popped down to A&E this afternoon to get him checked out. The breathing aund the pulse are too fast, and the X-ras shows shadows (dh: little, nothing to find in blood test yet). They think he is possibly just starting pneumonia, so are giving antibiotics for 3 days initially. If we're lucky we'll be allowed home after that.
Plaese send get-well vibes, or prayer if you're that way inclined, and spare a thought for ds 1 too, that he hopefully doesn't find it all too upsetting.

(dh: ds1 had a long day, several hours with me in the backpack, picking up a pram for ds2, visiting grandparents, long bath and then going to A&E, berolina and babybrother, falling asleep after 10 during dh's failing attempt to plead for a bit more waiting for a burp after breastfeeding because ds2 sleeps in this "fish-bowl" and looks like cable-connected - dh was foolish, stupid and too less sensitive enough to argue for a try, so that berolina and ds2 can sleep a little longer during the night-breast feedings; berolina fears ds1 can't cope with the minimum 3 day mama has to stay with little brother in hospital; doctor says ds2 is not in a life-threatening situation/condition, but berolina was right to come, because breathing is not as it should be; he can't foresee, how fast antibiotic-therapy will be effective, but thinks, berolina was fast enough there for preventing a real pneumonia)

Thank you everyone for your lovely messages. Am just typing this on dh?s laptop for him to post later (no internet here).
It?s mid-afternoon and babybero is stable, the breathing seems to have calmed to some degree although it?s fast again right now, bloods are good, they?ve tested for RSV and he doesn?t have that. Apparently the X-ray was such bad quality that there?s no telling whether there were really shadows on the lungs or not ? they did another one with the same result. So we don?t really know what?s going on, whether it is really pneumonia or not, just that the breathing and pulse are/were abnormal and apparently indicative of some sort of infection. He slept loads overnight (to the extent that I started worrying about my milk supply and even got out the ward?s creaky industrial breast pump) and again this afternoon ? hopefully a sign that he?s fighting whatever it is. Fortunately ds1 is allowed to visit ? he and dh were here this morning and I took him for a little walk while dh sat with ds2, and they?re due again any minute. They want to do the three days ABs and I?m soooooo hoping we?ll be let out after that. Hate hospitals Fortunately they let him out of the incubator this morning, which just makes the whole thing easier what with having immediate access to him.
trib, have started an email to you ? obviously can?t finish it atm? Ellbell, thank you for your email. You?re a love
em, what was your experience with ds? I can?t remember ? did he have pneumonia? How long were you in for?
Thanks too for all reassurances re ds1. Poor lamb, he?s done so very well with all the upheaval of a new sibling, particularly considering he?s only 2.5, and I just worry this will set him back.

Just seen this
Wishing babybero a speedy exit from hospital once the ABs have hopefully worked
It's tremendously good news it's not RSV
2.5-3 is such a hard time to be away from your mum (even if you have a wonderful daddy) but bero, children are resilient and he will understand the unusualness of this, as others have posted
Lots of love, thinking of you all

Still crossing my fingers (und die Daumen sind auch noch gedruckt) and hoping Babybero continues to improve.

Berolina, my DD had an op at 7 weeks then contracted a kidney infection a week later resulting in almost 3 weeks in hospital, it was horrible, but I was amazed at how DD took it all in her stride. She slept loads, sie hat sich gesund geschlafen. (Sorry, cannot think how to put that in English, it has been a long day!)

Thinking of you and your family

emkana · 15/10/2007 22:32

bero, hope things continue to improve.

Dd2 was the most clingy child right up to ds's birth (and after!) but she just understood on some level that I needed to be there with ds in hospital and coped with it extremely well - both when ds was in hospital in the UK and then in Germany, where she had to stay in unfamiliar surroundings!

Ds did have viral pneumonia, he was on oxygen for five days and on AB's IV for three days. Unfortunately that was the beginning of his ongoing chest problems, but he is obviously a special case with his skeletal dysplasia. Baby bero doesn't need oxygen though, does he?

Ich denke an Euch!

Tamum · 15/10/2007 22:36

Oh bero I missed thus- I do so hope ds2 gets better soon and that you get homenbefore long.

francagoestohollywood · 15/10/2007 23:01

Just found this Berolina, and I hope ds2 is recovering fast. Dd was admitted to hospital when she was 5 days old, and it was extremely distressing, she was lethargic and didn't latch on the breast. I kept expressing milk, as she would take a bottle. At times I gave her formula when I was knackered. But somehow my milk supply remained stable and she went back to b/feeding when started to feel better. Ds (then 22 months) didn't realize what was going on, but got upset when visited us. Luckily my mum was here and he was happy to spend time with her. Keep us posted

hunkermunker · 15/10/2007 23:05

Only just seen this - sending huge get well very quickly vibes to Baby Bero and hope that DS1 isn't too perturbed by your stay in hospital, Bero. Lots of love xx xx xx

I wish ds2 a speedy recovery, and please do send me your address soon so that I can thank you properly for the rucksack/reins.

Thank you again for all you good wishes. Babybero is doing well. His breathing is mostly consistently slower and his sleepiness seems to be over . We have some hope of being out tomorrow evening. ds1 is being a real star.

(dh: doctor says we are going to be out tomorrow afternoon )
