I've had this blister on my big toe for a week. I've never had a blister here before and have been wearing the same trainers I've had for a few months, so don't think it's been caused by pinching/shoes rubbing etc.

Could I have been bitten by something?

Does anyone know if I should get this seen to (at pharmacy) or just leave it alone to heal?

Is that nail polish on the nail, or is it bruised?

mankytoe · 11/10/2020 20:02

It's nail polish Spooky

Have you tried popping it?

DobbyTheHouseElk · 11/10/2020 20:04

Hard to tell 100% from photo. But it looks like the left side of the nail is digging in. Small slither of nail.

Is it painful?

mankytoe · 11/10/2020 20:05

I haven't yet Christmas, wasn't sure if it would make it worse, or risk it getting infected? I'm very tempted though!

mankytoe · 11/10/2020 20:07

It's getting more painful now Dobby, wasn't painful at all to start with. Maybe it's an in growing toenail then

Try pharmacist - they are great for this sort of thing. Also try Sporner Corner - lots of time knowledge! They will try to persuade you to squeeze it and photo it though!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 11/10/2020 20:09

I don’t know, nails can do weird things. It’s not unheard of for the infection to track.

Is it a slither of nail? Left side of nail. Looks like a weeny bit has been missed out with the clippers. Very common to find a slither of nail there.

SpookyNoise · 11/10/2020 20:15

I think I’d have to pop it.

mankytoe · 11/10/2020 20:18

Thanks Lurking, I'll go to the pharmacist tomorrow I think.

Thanks also Dobby, think there is a small slither of nail there now I've looked!

Ring the pharmacy but I would be inclined to soak it and pop it

ChristmasCantComeSoonEnough · 11/10/2020 20:22

I would be inclined to soak, pop, douse in salt water, smother in savlon and see how it is in the morning. If there is a foreign body (like a slither of nail) it is definitely a case of better out than in.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 11/10/2020 20:28

Cool! 20 years experience in feet trained me well!

PlanDeRaccordement · 11/10/2020 20:30

It looks to me like a chafing blister that’s also developed a bit of athletes foot infection.

PlanDeRaccordement · 11/10/2020 20:32

It’s too far away from the nail bed to be an ingrowing toe nail.

saymynames · 11/10/2020 20:50

Looks like a hack to me. Is the bump dry, hard skin? Either that or could the nail from the toe next to it have been jagging in?

SweetpeaOrMarigold · 11/10/2020 20:52

Covid toes? Have a Google!

mankytoe · 11/10/2020 21:00

Thanks all. Very tempted to soak & pop! Interesting re athletes foot.

Covid toe?!! Shock I hope it's not that!

wowfudge · 11/10/2020 21:01

I'd get a blister plaster like Compeed on that - they really are brilliant. Doesn't look to me as though there is a sliver of nail in there. Surely you'd have noticed a jagged or broken nail?

AyDeeAitchDee · 11/10/2020 21:01

I would put a needle in it for sure!

And the line on it makes me think the nail on your 2nd toe is rubbing it maybe? X

mankytoe · 11/10/2020 21:03

Saymyname the bump is soft, I wondered if the neighbouring toenail had been digging in, but it's short & no sharp bits. Still a possibility though!

OP posts:
mankytoe · 11/10/2020 21:06

Aydee it could be couldn't it, would explain the line.

Wowfudge I'll try a Compeed on it, thanks

Here is a nice webpage with guidance on what causes blisters between toes and how to treat them (and prevent them)
