Hip pain

dingledongle · 06/10/2020 20:13

I have been experiencing hip pain the last two weeks. It is worse at night and stiff in the morning and gets better as the day goes on.

Seen a physio who suggested lower back muscles have seized up. I have had one treatment and the hip is still sore.

I will continue with the suggestions of stretching my lower back but the hip hurts, inside Sad

Anyone had this?

I am 48 and wonder if hormones are to blame?

Or any supplements help?

Desperate Wink

Hi, I’m 51, and I had something similar, and I still do if I don’t do hip stretches each day. Not saying it’s the same, but it has definitely helped me.

I hold each stretch for 30 seconds, anything less doesn’t have the same effect. I just found them on utube. There are loads for tight hips.

Good luck.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 08/10/2020 22:38

Hi dingledongle, I get a pain in one of my hips but I don't have a pattern to it, unlike you. Some days it's more noticeable than others. My lower back can be stiff with it too. Doing yoga seems to help. I'm nearly 47 so I'm also wondering if there is a hormonal component to it as I also have a few perimenopause symptoms.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 09/10/2020 11:17

Yep, this is me. Been 2 months, GP prescribed ibruprofen and told me it would go away, but nope. Now waiting for physiotherapist appointment. It’s only on my right, is worse at night, fine to walk on. I wish I could get it X-rayed. I’m 45 and wondering if it’s peri menopause, I am having other weird things go wrong with my body but not run of the mill peri symptoms.

Vik1ng · 09/10/2020 11:21

I’m similar age and have similar issues. It could be Peri menopausal hormone changes. Might also be worth taking a vitamin D supplement if you’re not already. Very easy to be low on vit D, causes all sorts of issues including muscle or joint pain.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 09/10/2020 14:57

I'm on Vitamin D. I've been taking it for a good while. I'm also a bit stiffer, generally. I was wondering if it's osteoarthritis. I used to carry my youngest on the same hip when she was a baby and she was a very clingy baby.

dingledongle · 09/10/2020 18:03

Thanks for replies so far, it has been excruciating from ovulation through to period.

Horrific at night, cannot turn, then awful for about half an hour on getting up Sad

Saw a physio privately and he said it's because I am tall, "all about levers" he kept saying. Felt no better

Saw a masseuse, bit better

Now going to another physio who is also an osteopath on Monday Sad

I think it may be peri

Started taking recommenced dose of Vit D3 (10ug)

Wonder if it is enough?

Is it peri

Or something else!!!Angry

I too have had this. Am 44. No particular pattern but comes and goes.
Got myself into a tizzy, as I thought it was something sinister. Has cleared up now (I’ve lost weight) so I’m sure it was hormones/weight gain. I do get a stiff lower back sometimes, but this too comes and goes.

dingledongle · 09/10/2020 18:19

I should say it is more pelvis than hip pain, (wing of ilium- just goggled the anatomy) and bone that pokes up at the front of your pelvis! At the same level as your tummy button/navel. Wink

OP posts:
Barefootinthecarpark · 10/10/2020 10:46

Yep, me too! Sometimes in hip joint, other times in ilium. Took a long time to settle down (10 months) but now feel it very infrequently.

mizu · 10/10/2020 10:51

I'm 47 and had a full hysterectomy 5 years ago. On HRT. I have been getting aches and pains too. Perhaps it's an age thing.

Doctor said lower back pain is because I am tall Hmm and finally got to see a physio before lockdown who gave me exercises to do and I've stopped them as they made it worse! Back a bit better now but I am getting a bit of groin ache and behind my boobs a bit as well.

I sometimes wake up stiff and achy, other times not.

Noidea2114 · 10/10/2020 11:06

Check out the symptoms of bursitis. I've had that for 15 years it started after I hurt my back after a nasty fall.
I was on tramadol and the doctor wanted me to come off the pain killers.
5 years ago a friend mentioned magnets, I have a magnetic bracelet on each wrist and now have no pain.

Vik1ng · 10/10/2020 12:00

Good tip about the magnets @Noidea2114. Any in particular, or are they all much the same?

Noidea2114 · 10/10/2020 12:52

Vik1ng I'll be honest I got them from a market stall in Tenerife. I also got one for my DD as she is allergic to any pain killers
and they have helped her. Don't know how they work but I've not taken any pain killers for 5years.

dingledongle · 10/10/2020 15:49

Sounds like it might be peri then ☹️

Really getting me down, feel stiff and elderly, only 48!

barefootinthecarpark was it worse in the morning?

Did you use anything to ease it? 😊

Coming to join in the club!!

Mine is mostly in my groin. It's more what I can't do, than the pain, getting to me. I'm already limited as my knees have given up on me (I can't kneel anymore & they're permanently swollen). I'm 51, but wasn't ready to be chucked in the scrap heap just yet.

It's also my baby carrying hip.

I FELT like the magnesium tablets were helping, but my blood sugars (diabetic) went a bit mad when I started taking them and a few other bits, so I've stopped them for a bit. Now blood sugars are a bit better again I'm going to try again (one supplement at a time this time!) & see if that was the cause or not.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 10/10/2020 17:35

It's good to hear of others with a similar complaint. Mine was a twinge for a while, but it's definitely sore now. I notice it when I'm putting on my socks or when I'm driving, or even bending down. For me, it's not related to being tall, as I am very short, but yes, it's definitely making me feel older.

Yellredder · 10/10/2020 20:37

I'm 51 with a long history of msk issues - over the past decade it's been the hip! I'm seeing the physiology long term and do exercises to help. I've also had an injection earlier this year - which was freakin' amazing! Am going to try collagen supplements too.

roundturnandtwohalfhitches · 10/10/2020 21:02

I had this. Mine turned out to be an IT band issue and tight hip flexors. Caused in some part by problems I think with my feet and ankles. I'm 51 and allowed myself to be convinced it was hormonal. However the right stretches and proper shoes for under pronation and I'm better than I've been in years.

FoolsAssassin · 10/10/2020 21:07

This is me, watching with interest. Other joints starting to hurt as well now on and off.

dingledongle · 11/10/2020 08:37

roundturnandtwohalfhitches that is interesting. Did you get a 'diagnosis' from a physio/osteopath?

OP posts:
Playdoughbum · 11/10/2020 08:47

Watching, same issue. Hip, lower back and into groin and pelvis. I’ve had lower back issues for years and some arthritis elsewhere. Obviously I’m convinced I have something terrible. It’s also a bit random. Have docs appointment to discuss.
I have been under exercising and have gained weight so need to sort that really. Post meno and short. It was also my baby carrying hip.
It’s like a really crap club!

Tinseltrauma · 11/10/2020 08:48

This is me too! You have described my pain though I would say mine is more towards the back of my body. I'm 54 and coming to the end of the menopause I think. We thought it might be due to our bed as like yours, it is really bad in the night and goes off as the day goes on. Changed the mattress, no difference. I do Les Mills body pump and thought it might be that but it actually feels better after I've done it so I think the exercises are stretching it out.
I've been to a physio in the past and it did help a bit but now it's back with a vengeance. Toying with trying an osteopath but don't want to spend a fortune on virtual consultations etc just to be given exercises. So following with interest.

Tinseltrauma · 11/10/2020 08:52

@Losingthewill8 are there any stretches you find particularly effective? Please could you recommend if so?

dingledongle · 11/10/2020 09:05

I was told to lie on my back and pull my knee up to my chest and then do the same with the other leg.

Also told to me to do hip twist- lying on back taking leg across body.

These seem to relieve it but I guess I am looking for a 'cure' Grin
