Should I just take dh to A+E every time he gets atrial fib & tachy?

Cardio put him on 2.5mg bisoprolol, it’s made it much worse, his asthma now requires two ventolin a month not one & he gets out of breath walking up stairs now.

He’s had a gel scan late July, no results sent to gp.

He’s been arrhythmic from 12:30 last night till 13:30 today. Heart rate 160. Dr is ringing us back about upping his meds which is what’s made him worse to begin with.

What do we have to do to get treatment because we keep getting fobbed off.

Ha!. Nice to “see” you Life. I know this is the quiet before the storm. I’ve got to get him home, ref to the Glenfield & possibly then get him through surgery so this bit is going to seem like the good old days soon.

Got to keep your sense of humour once the initial crisis is over.

I need an OFRS in case it happens again. I had to take a mug in today. Took a homebargains one, he’s not taking my naice le creuset mug in there.

Ofrs? Definitely no good stuff to hospital. It will get lost or broken.
Nice to see you too fluffster. Look after you too as well as DH. Absolutely here is you want a chat

lifelongfrugaleer · 20/09/2020 20:37

If not is

Fluffycloudland77 · 20/09/2020 20:53

Years ago mumsnet had a thing about having an Oh Fuck Ruck Sack incase of a zombie attack & list all the things they’d put in it.

I can cope while I think he’s coming home & his vitals are improving, cannula is out. He’s complaining a lot so that’s a good sign with patients. He’s missing me a lot and just wants out now but no one wants to be in hospital anyway.

We’ve never been apart longer than 24hrs before.

sashh · 21/09/2020 05:35

Have a hug @Fluffycloudland77 it sounds like you have a plan.

lifelongfrugaleer · 21/09/2020 06:24

I like the idea is an oh fuck ruck sac. I may get one,,

Complaining is a good sign. Though no one wants to be I hospital do you feel you are being g listened to.

All the regular frugaleers sent their best wishes for you both. No pressure to go on the thread btw just in case you worried. Just wanted you to know they care too

Fluffycloudland77 · 21/09/2020 07:32

Thank you life. No, he’s not being listened to but I am feeling much more assertive now. I’m worn out.

@sashh, thank you & thank you for the heart information too. All the medics on this thread have helped me so much & been so kind. I hope your patients appreciate you.

We have two young adult nephews & I worry about their futures so I’ve suggested to the ones partner he get checked out. She’s a level headed woman so I know she’ll sort him out.

There are some wonderful people on here helping you.
Deep breath and one day at a time.

@Fluffycloudland77

She’s probably got a better bedside manner.
She has. She's fab!
SpringFan · 21/09/2020 18:20

FLuffy,
There is a charity called something like Cardiac Risk in the Young, who do Echos and ECG on under 35s who have a family history of heart disease. They are particulary looking at those who might be at risk of Sudden Adult Death Syndrome. Might be worth investigating for the nieces or nephews
I need to get my boys to have checks when the Covid restrictions are finished,

Fluffycloudland77 · 21/09/2020 18:41

Oh thank you I’ll pass that onto dn’s partner.

Y’know when people come out of hospital are they known to be not very nice to their family?. I was expecting a hug at least.

fluffy the CRY charity is fantastic. It's based local to me, ds was tested along with all of his friends, about 4 years ago.
Sorry for grassing you up!

Yes, I’m afraid I think not unusual. He might just be tired? Try not to knock him on the head, take ten minutes for yourself if you can. Think of it like dealing with a toddler. Also speak to your manager about emergency leave so you can get a rest. If you’re NHS there are a variety of leave options you might be able to use.
lifelongfrugaleer · 22/09/2020 06:56

My fault North for being a gob shite.

Hope sleep has been got flfuffy

Fluffycloudland77 · 22/09/2020 07:40

I’m private so I’m going to have to go in.

Their going to insert a monitor under his skin that you can download the information off.

Dh feels the current treatment is a sticking plaster over a gaping wound. He can’t work out why they don’t want to fix a regurgitating valve.

Sats are 89 lying down and 94 standing up.

How's it going fluffster?

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/09/2020 13:17

Well he hasn’t had another episode but he says he can tell somethings wrong in there.

I met a heart failure community nurse today & got the name of the one for our area.

His discharge letter glosses over the heart valve damage & focuses on AF & anxiety 🤨.

He’s apologised for Monday’s blip & has overhauled his diet as he’s found out everything he was eating wasn’t very healthy. Last night he had salmon fillet & apparently really enjoyed it.

If only someone had pointed out repeatedly over the last 15 years that his diet wasn’t great Confused.

The really hard bit starts now ☹️ Getting him referred will probably be a needlessly difficult process.

Thanks for asking.

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/09/2020 17:55

It’s back if he lies down. AF.

Bugger.

Can you afford a private consultation with a cardiologist. It costs approx 150 and they can see any tests that were run on the NHs and if you need more testing, they put you back into the NHS but nearer the front of the queue. Another option is to look at the 6 lead Kardia sensor on Amazon, it does a full ECG at home and he can whip it out if he is feeling dodgy. It then saves the tracing as a pdf and you can email it to his cardiologist (when you have a nice new one) or just show it to them. It costs about 120 pounds (but def get the 6lead version)

If you stay with the NHS, I think going to a different A and E is a good idea, just say you were out for a drive when he started feeling bad. Then if they try and punt you back to his old cardiologist you can just insist that you wanted a second opinion on the old cardiologists treatment plan anyway and so you want to get that started right now They arent allowed to refuse you that.

In the meantime, start giving him 100% of the recommended daily amount of magnesium. Its very good for heart arrthymias. Also a stonking load of vit D and C both of which will help mop up cellular damage from his AF

Hope you can find a path through soon

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/09/2020 18:37

Possibly yes we can afford that for a private cardio.

He was on mag in hospital but no advice to continue & we have vit c here. He’s on 50 microgram of vit d and whatever the rda is for vit k.

We have prime & I met a heart failure nurse at work today who told me the name of the nurse for our area.

Ok I’m going to look at the 6 lead ecg.

His second beta blocker was late so it might have been that. We'll see what happens tomorrow. I’ve done vit c drink anyway ✔️

OP posts:
SeaToSki · 24/09/2020 00:19

Yes thats the right Kardia. You just pair it to a smart phone with a free ap. The important thing is to relax your arm muscles when you do the recording.

Def start taking the Mag again, also a banana a day is a good idea for the potassium and dont be on a low salt diet. Regular salt levels are important.

I googled the heart center in Wolverhampton, it seems to have a good record. The surgeon Mr Steven Billings works there and also sees private clients, might be a good place to start your own research. You can self refer to a private specialist

Fluffycloudland77 · 24/09/2020 06:28

Funnily enough he’s started asking for bananas.

He’s going to take his bisoprolol in one dose today & see how it’s controlled like that.

He was meant to take his second dose at 1pm yesterday, took it about 6 instead 🤦🏻‍♀️ Because he forgot but there’s no room for error right now.

Fluffycloudland77 · 24/09/2020 16:23

Gp has sent him back to a+e with a letter As he was af & 145bpm on 7.5mg biso.

She has said she will ref to glenfield too.
