Should I just take dh to A+E every time he gets atrial fib & tachy?

Cardio put him on 2.5mg bisoprolol, it’s made it much worse, his asthma now requires two ventolin a month not one & he gets out of breath walking up stairs now.

He’s had a gel scan late July, no results sent to gp.

He’s been arrhythmic from 12:30 last night till 13:30 today. Heart rate 160. Dr is ringing us back about upping his meds which is what’s made him worse to begin with.

What do we have to do to get treatment because we keep getting fobbed off.

I’ve told him to point out he’s not anti coagulated.

Their keeping him in and giving him more beta blockers.

@Fluffycloudland77 take care. your dh is in a good place which means you can take a breather for a bit.
get some sleep, even if only 30min during the day, and a good nutritious meal. listen/watch something funny or engaging. go for a walk.

I’m home now. His heart rate returned to normal at 7am. He’s had a load of beta blockers.

He’s going up to a ward and being tested for covid.

He was shielded so being on a ward brings it’s own risks.

@Fluffycloudland77

Make yourself a cup of tea and sit down for 15 mins.

Fluffycloudland77 · 18/09/2020 08:26

I’m sitting. Had a good cry.

It’s just him on the ward & a chap in a tent who has diarrhoea.

Thank you all, you’ve all helped a lot.

As he is asthmatic, please don't add aspirin into the mix yourself.
Its isn't first choice these days anyway.

Toddlerteaplease · 18/09/2020 10:08

Magic & Cheddar send your husband healing purrs and head bumps for you.

Fluffycloudland77 · 18/09/2020 10:10

Thank you, he would love that.

I would be so worried about stroke risk. What you are describing is so wrong. It's negligent care in my view. Sounds like you have a GP who has resigned himself to the inadequacy in the system rather than being your mouthpiece. In your shoes (having a mother who eventually died of vascular dementia caused by two massive strokes caused by inadequately treated af) I would get to a&e. How can the ecg results not be available. What are they doing with them?

willitbetonight · 18/09/2020 10:25

Sorry ignore me, just realised he is in hospital. Good luck. Keep fighting his cause op.

Fluffycloudland77 · 18/09/2020 10:38

Well his chest x Ray shows infection at the bottom of his lung & they are querying covid too. I’m worried they can see something on the x Ray. He has no temperature. They’ve started antibiotics for pneumonia.

We’ve been so careful we haven’t been out anywhere and doing all the right things.

Definitely push for a referral to Glenfield. They are the heart experts in the East Midlands.

Fluffycloudland77 · 18/09/2020 11:00

Leaky heart valve detected, blood thinners started.

When he went to a+e on the 8th it was packed but he had a mask on and a nurse took him through quickly when she felt his pulse.

Glad you had a sit down. I know this is very serious thread but when I read:

It’s just him on the ward & a chap in a tent who has diarrhoea.

It made me chuckle, I imagine some bloke with a camping tent and for some reason a fishing rod.

Leaky heart valves can be very minor, it depends which valve it is and which how leaky.

Remember he is in the best place for him right now. Anything they find he has already got, they are not going to give him new conditions, they may find out more but he is getting the appropriate treatment.

Cry all yo want, some times it is all you can do.

Fluffycloudland77 · 18/09/2020 11:41

He’s been moved so hopefully a less exciting cardiology ward awaits.

OP posts:
Fluffycloudland77 · 18/09/2020 11:46

The gel scan he had two months ago showed the leaky valve.

OP posts:
Fluffycloudland77 · 18/09/2020 15:03

It’s two leaky valves plus calcification on valve and regurgitation.

The consultant is not happy with dh for being there and says risk of strokes is low and other people manage just fine on beta blockers. Says surgery poses risks. But doesn’t everything.

He keeps reiterating that last point. Dh now on 7.5mg bisoprolol. No mention of asthma.

Dh trying v low dose of blood thinner now.

How do I get dhs care transferred?.

Oh and the drs are walking round with no make, chap in next bed coughing with no mask on.

OP posts:
Fluffycloudland77 · 18/09/2020 15:11

Oh and the sinus node isn’t regulating the rythym.

Just wishing you well here Fluffy as am not a medic.
Three more head bumps and lots of purrs from my three though.

Toddlerteaplease · 18/09/2020 18:55

Derby hospitals were apparently much slower to adopt PPE, than other trusts. I work at QMC and we were much quicker. Considering they lost five members of staff to Covid you'd think they would be hot on it. The nurses should absolutely be telling dr s off for not wearing masks. Patients don't have to wear them at the bedside.

Toddlerteaplease · 18/09/2020 18:56

Ask the consultant to refer to Glenfield for a second opinion.

Fluffycloudland77 · 18/09/2020 19:29

Oh god I’m going to have to be assertive 😭 aren’t I?.

I think dh is actually quite afraid of him because of his attitude of “everyone else is just fine on beta blockers” but I spoke to my dn today who knows 3 people who’ve had af with ablation.

My plan was go along with it, get him out and ask dr to refer to Glenfield as we have no faith in the other team.
