i think that if you are worried you should at least call nhs direct, or make an emergency GP appt tomorrow

Beelzebug · 07/10/2007 21:47

I'd personally call nhs direct.
My friend had chest pains, he called nhs and they sent an ambulance straight away. Turned out to be a panic attack.

EllHell · 07/10/2007 21:51

I heard a programme about heart attacks on Radio 4 (= source of all knowledge ) and listened carefully as my dh is quite high-risk. Aspirin saves lives, apparently, if taken at the start of a heart attack. Apparently even if you call an ambulance or go to A&E what they give you first is (basically) aspirin. (I've been leaving packets of aspirin in all dh's bags/pockets/wallets ever since!) Take some aspirin now (if you have some... if not send someone out for some) and then ring NHS direct or your out-of-hours doctor. It might be nothing, but it sounds as if you should investigate. (However, I repeat... all my knowledge comes from Radio 4. Hope someone who really knows something comes along soon.) Take care!

I would be worried about the fact it went into your jaw - did it also radiate down your left arm at all? I think an immediate trip to A and E would be a good idea - probably nothing but really worth checking out.

3littlebats · 07/10/2007 21:54

With your history and symptoms I would advise A&E. Don't delay.

Lmccrean · 07/10/2007 21:55

thats what I was gonna say beelzebug. I had that a few years ago, for no reason - was just sitting watching tv doing a cross stitch (cant get more relaxed!) and had it. Felt like my chest was in a vice. Called dad in a panic and he gave me paper bag to breathe into and brought me to a&e but it had gone by the time we got there.

I had them frequently for 2 years after that then they just disappered.

Do get checked though, in case its not it...and carry a paper bag (or those flimsy poly pocket clear things work if you are stuck)

fishie · 07/10/2007 21:58

lisalisa i think you should ring the hospital and ask them. they might send an ambulance. you should do soemthing not wait till tomorrow.

Gordon Bennett woman 'phone a doctor or NHSDirect. Now. Please.

Hope it is all fine. But make sure.

3littlebats · 07/10/2007 22:02

Yes - the phlegmy feeling could be connected. I think you should go and have an ECG - which takes 5 minutes. It is impossible to diagnose over the phone or internet, but you have symptoms and risk factors that would make a check up advisable.

fishie · 07/10/2007 22:03

dp spent 8 hours in hospital with a panic attack recently. our (same aged) neighbour dropped dead the following day.

get checked, the worst is a waste of time.

hairycaterpillar · 07/10/2007 22:03

Professionally my advice would be (and I rarely give advice professionally online!) phone NHS Direct, you will only worry otherwise and you need checked over regardless of cause of pain...NHS 24 will help you decide wether you need seen tonight or if GP tomorrow would do.

DANCESwithHughJackman · 07/10/2007 22:03

Panic attacks can come from nowhere, you don't have to be panicing or in a stressful situation for one to start HOWEVER I too think you need to go to hospital and get checked out, particularly with your family history.

EllHell · 07/10/2007 22:06

Ahem! Have you had an aspirin? [obsessed emoticon]

If you are overweight, on the pill and have a family history of heart disease, esp at a young age, you are at risk of heart failure, heart disease (as in risk of heart attack) and also PE - blood clot. Sorry, that sounds awfully brutal, and I really don't want to frighten you unnecessarily, because I know that gall bladder pain can be horrendous. However, NOTHING can be diagnosed over the internet or phone, and if you were my relative I would take you to A&E.

I also know that A&E can mean a long wait, but I still think better safe than sorry.

The phlegmy feeling could be due to congestion in the lungs due to any of the things I have mentioned.

I am sorry if anyone thinks I am being too graphic, but I can't see you, so am urging you check it out with someone who can.

I could add several other possible diagnosis to that 3littlebats...and I would agree internet is NOT the place to ponder such symptoms!

I hate threads like this cause I worry...please seek appropriate medical advice LisaLisa, I dont think anyone wants to scare you but you do need checked over...and a cyberconsultation in this instance is not adequate.

Hope for your sake it is a false alarm and nothing more than a bit of acid brought on by the chips! Personally I'd rather wait in A+E for a few hours to be told that than ignore the symptoms and collapse with something more serious tomorrow.

xx

Beelzebug · 08/10/2007 08:14

How did you get on at the hospital?
Hope everything is ok.

DANCESwithHughJackman · 08/10/2007 08:35

Me too. Please let us know how you got on. Hope it was a wasted trip iykwim

3littlebats · 08/10/2007 09:05

Thinking of you and hoping all is well. Let us know.

Beelzebug · 08/10/2007 13:11

Lisalisa, you there? you ok?

TwigorTreat · 08/10/2007 13:13

gosh LisaLisa how frightening

Am hoping it was all benign but that you got seen quickly

Carmenere · 08/10/2007 13:20

I am coming to this late and I hope lisalisa is ok but I just wanted to add that I had post cholestic(sp) syndrome after my gall bladder was removed(still do occasionally) and the symptoms were a bit like that but not as intense. there is always the possibility that there is a gall stone still wandering around lisalisa's system causing problems.

DANCESwithHughJackman · 08/10/2007 13:20

Does anyone know Lisalisa in RL who can check?
