Well sort of emergency in as much as saw the consultant yeaterday hwo said she had never seen such uge tonsils and adenoids.Described the risks and reluctance to operate but would wait to hear.

Anyway, got a call today saying doc had reviewed the case and decided that it was a relatively urgent case.

DD goes in on Tues and is only 2.4-any advice of what to expect????????

Hi there

Thanks so much for sharing your experiences ash6605.
My dd is having her tonsils and adenoins out and if appropriate, grommits in too depending on what they find.

Although she isn't at school, she is at nursery school and she's gutted that she'll be missing her last week at nursery with the christmas party and christmas show. Her op is on 6th Dec, the party is a week later on 13th and the show is the next day, on 14th.

All being well, she'll be fit enough to go along with me to at least the show - that'll be 8 days post-op.

I am so dreading it - hearing the horrid things your poor DD had to go through, makes me worry even more.

However, I know that she so needs it done to stop the sleep apnea etc and once it is all over, everything will be sorted.

Thanks again

Please try not to worry too much,I didn't say what I did to worry you.as I said though, the only one who seemed to have problems was my daughter(story of my life really!)
The little boy who was having the same op your dd is was fine post-op running around in the playroom within a couple of hours.I think with me,I didn't ever notice a problem with dd and her adenoids.she never had problems with breathing, eating, snoring,i think they just took them out for the hell of it!That kind of annoyed me,as with only the grommit operation she'd have been home the same day, school the next and wouldn't have aught an infection!

Hi to the regulars who read this..well not a very good last few days. DS was due his T and A on Tuesday. Last Sat. he was off his food, bit sleepy, then sick.During the night he was acting very strangely, not lying down, crying. Sunday, very sleepy, started to be sick again. Then after his lunch nap he was crying and crying, very floppy, sick again. Then we spotted these red spots on his face, then one ortwo on his body. Rang NHS direct who told us to take him up to A&E which we did. We were seen immediately and they were worried about Menningitis..put him straight on an IV and got AB's into him. Nightmare went on..no beds in the hospital, none in South london..nearest was the Royal Free in Hamstead. 2 in the morning they took DS and wife in ambulance across town with me in the car trying to find my way. Anyway, he was discharched after a day, seemed ok..just a scare what with all the symptoms..they don't take any chances. Probably just that vomiting bug..I don't know. Anyway, of course op was cancelled..AGAIN. Now we don't know what to do. Feel like just leaving things for awhile, let him get his strength back..can't face nights in hospital again so soon. Such a pain, my work is getting so peed of with me constantly arranging time off then not taking it..Most important thing though is that DS is ok..stil got enourmous tonsils and not sleeping well..but ok..

Hi dad12 - how horrid and scarey for you all. Glad to hear he is on the mend but can totally understand you not knowing what to do for the best. Doing an op at this time of year is SO hard, as they are constantly picking up bugs and viruses.

Ours is still scheduled for 6th Dec but am not convinced it'll end up happening as she's bound to come down with something a few days beforehand.

Do keep us posted on what you decide to do and I will do the same - hopefully with positive feedback following the op.

Take care

Hi Aznerak..nice to hear from you! so sorry to hear your DD lost the front tooth..now that must really hurt!! she sounds a real trooper though...I know what you mean about this time of year, and its like we are not really even half way through this winter! We are starting to think about leaving things till the spring, everything is so cold and miserable at the moment. I stay as cheery and positive as I can..but my DP is finding the continuous stress difficult, just wants to forget about it for awhile. We have always worried about DS being so young, under 3 for this kind of op. He'll be 3 in Jan, by Spring abit bigger and hopefully stronger. I don't know right now..

aznerak · 22/11/2007 13:10

I feel exactly the same. dd will be 3 in December (3 days after the scheduled op) but she is SO tiny still. People get really confused by her, as she is so small yet she was a very early speaker and so people can't work out how someone so little can speak so well!
She weighs exactly 12kg - tiny for a 3 year old! And wears 12 months clothes poor love.
If her's gets cancelled again for whatever reason, I think I will leave it for a bit.....

Dad12 · 22/11/2007 14:37

12kg is very petite..my little boy is just under 14kg and I thought he was pretty small. Please stay in touch though, if you want to email rather than use mumsnet, no [email protected]
