Aside from running around after kids, cleaning, shopping etc...

Just interested really.

I have done a lot of power walking over the past 3 or 4 years, between 4 and 8 hours a week when training for an event.
Now recently started swimming regularly 2 or 3 times a week, swimming between 800 and 1500m a time.

Just recently started swimming twice a week and I hate every minute of it until I walk out of the Leisure Centre feeling all vertious. I count my lengths and started with 30, now on 40. DH just swims as fast as he can for 30 minutes, but I have to count to keep me going.

Contemplating running, but I have never liked it. Although, I am wondering if the thought of running away from the house (and the chaos and the DC) will actually be quite nice

Starting JuJitsu next week...thought it might be fun and useful.

morningpaper · 03/10/2007 21:03

I walk at a grown-up pace for about an hour a week

that's it

it's hard when you're toddler gets to that WALKING stage and you can't push a pram at a reasonable pace, you have to CRAWL everywhere - it's SHIT

BOOquets · 03/10/2007 21:06

Shagging.
15mins walk to school (toddler in pushchair for MP's reasons)
That's it. I did buy a sports bar this summer with a view to jogging but it's still in its box .

jeangenie · 03/10/2007 21:11

pilates - fab - it's mostly lying down with your eyes closed
also do physio exercises for dodgey pelvis twice a day and 15 minutes on stationary bike every 2nd day (same reason) - is totally yawn inducing
school run 3 times a week
that's it really
am very unfit actually!

Oh I do yoga once a week in termtime but I don't count that as exercise, it's too much fun.

chocolateshoes · 03/10/2007 21:16

swimming for fitness class once a week - swim about a mile
gym for hour & a half twice a week
Usually manage at least one session of 20mins on static bike per week but really need to fit another slot in but it is so boring
In the summer at least one good bike ride a week but am very much a fairweather cyclist
Alot of pushing DS up a steep hill in his buggy!
Does running round Tescos count?

TheDuchessOfCorpseBride · 03/10/2007 21:22

I ride 2/3 times a week
Run 5k once a week
Run 2 x fast miles a week
Walk the dog 30mins-1hr a day
I row 30 mins a week
And when I have time, I play tennis.

Smithy · 03/10/2007 21:23

so annoying - I always always miss my step class by 5 mins now as just can't get there in time after walking kids to school and back! grrrr, surely it's crazy to drive them a 10-min walk just to make an exercise class????????

Saker · 03/10/2007 22:40

About 60-70min six days a week of home exercise - step aerobics, kickboxing, weight training, jogging or cycling.

williamsmummy · 03/10/2007 22:47

I breathe...................a lot.

Clary · 03/10/2007 22:55

Swim once or twice a week about 20-26 lengths

Pilates once a week (well, more like once a fortnight really)

Cycle to and from work (15 mins each way) twice a week

Run err well not as often as I would like TBH. Mung it is the business running, you just close the door and you're off. Trouble is I have ongoing exhaustion problems with it (to do with anaemia perhaps...)

Wow some of you are fit!!!!

Running! Keeps me sane and gives me and hubby a chance to talk things through (till he wants to race and we are too out of breath!)
Bt seriously, run 50 miles a week -and you can eat whatever you flippin well like. Cake

shrooms · 04/10/2007 00:25

Ooh - and ballet and jazz dancing. A good laugh and excellent for core stability.
I want to take on more cycling and swimming to do a triathlon but haven't gotten round to it yet.

dinny · 04/10/2007 09:17

shrooms, how do you break down your (massive!) weekly mileage? cheers, dinny

shrooms · 04/10/2007 09:38

I run on a seven day cycle, so a week on, then 1 day off ect.
Often I run twice a day, eg once early and once just late afternoon/ evening training with club.

Day 1 is 3 miles morning and about 6 with club, day 2 is 7 miles, day 3 is 4 miles speed sesh. Day 4 is 8 miles easy, day 5 is 4 miles morn. 4 evening, day 6 is 3 miles, and day 7 is a long run of 11-12 miles.

This looks strict, but it does change according to the season or what is going on. I fit the running in around my life and children not the other way round!

oliveoil · 04/10/2007 09:39

none

apart from chasing 2 children about

Sheherazadethegoat · 04/10/2007 09:44

shrooms you make me feel tired.

i do pilates and run about 5k 3 times a week.

shrooms · 04/10/2007 09:47

Lol - I do like my sleep...
But that shouldn't make you feel bad about what your doing - that is definately doing wanders for your health. It's probo more than about 80% of the population are doing too

Posey · 04/10/2007 20:21

I'm very impressed by how much a lot of people do!
Shrooms - I am seriously impressed with your commitment. Have you always run?

Overtiredmum · 04/10/2007 20:29

Oh my god!! I am so impressed at what you all do! But HOW do you all find the time, thats what I want to know. I am home all day with DS who is 2.3 until around 4pm, when I go to work until 11pm Monday to Friday. During that time at home I clean, do the washing, the ironing, cook lunches and then evening meals, do the weekly food shop and generally play with DS. IF I get time, I will spend 20-25 mins cycling on an exercise bike, but that is generally 2-3 times a week. I would love to run, but firstly I have no-one to look after DS whilst I am at home and secondly, my norks are too big!! I would either do myself some serious damage or there would be potholes on the path!! I used to do a kickboxing DVD which I love, but that was when DS was a baby and could leave him in his chair for 30 mins, now it is just impossible and there is no enough room for me to do it with DS jumping around all over me.
