He was very upset at the time, and told us he had hurt his head and his shoulder - massive bruise on shoulder to prove point. he never mentioned his head again, although once or twice since he has mentioned seeing "double", but I get like that when I'm very tired, and thought it was the same with him. Anyway, over the weekend he has complained all the time of seeing double, and now tells me he has had it a lot since he fell. Of course I feel like worst mother ever. I have tried the docs to ask tehir advice and keep getting the engaged tone, and NHS Direct I keep getting a message saying they are very busy. He's 7 BTW. Any advice?

I would take him to A&E to have it checked out.........(and don't be too hard on yourself)

saltire · 01/10/2007 08:23

Would I be able to just turn up? I have no car, DH is away on exercise and I have DS1 also.
Don't actually know where my nearest A&E is, theres a hospital in portsmouth and then there's Haslar as well

do you have a neighbour who can take you to A&E?

saltire · 01/10/2007 09:09

Got through to NHS Direct, they asked lots of questions and sadi teh best thing is to take him to A&E, apparently there is one called the Queen Alexandra in portsmouth/Cosham. off to find a yellow pages now for a list of taxis!

you're doing the best thing,

hope everything is ok!

saltire · 01/10/2007 09:13

Thanks, just noticed your question about the neighbours, none of them really speak to me, so don't want to ask, and I think most of them work.
These things always happen when DH is away.

saltire

you need to go to Queen Alexandra hospital in Cosham, portsmouth

St marys (portsmouth) and Haslar (gosport) have no A&E

(you may even see my boss lol, she is a consultant there!)

definitley go to A&E

saltire · 01/10/2007 09:16

Thanks nannyl, just looking to see if it would be cheaper by train or by taxi.

OP posts:
NannyL · 01/10/2007 09:16

the next A&Es in the area are Southampton and St Richards Hospital, Chichester (for future reference)

NannyL · 01/10/2007 09:17

well if you got a train to cosham it would be a good 15 min walk, the last bit is quite up hill from the station i think

saltire · 01/10/2007 09:19

A train to Cosham would cost £3.00 , but I would need to get a taxi up to the hospital, so will just get a taxi from my house to the hospital, it won't cost more than £20 will it

Good luck saltire

NannyL · 01/10/2007 09:26

saltire,
I dont live far from cosham

I have the day off today

I have a group 1 and group 2 car seat installed in my car, (so for a 9month - 3ish year old,) and a 4year old - 11 old

I would be happy to pick you up from cosham and drive you the shortish drive to QA

Marina · 01/10/2007 09:28

You star NannyL

NannyL · 01/10/2007 09:34

(I also have a booster cushion and a car seat from 9 months - 6 years, so can swap them around!)

NannyL · 01/10/2007 10:04

have you already left saltire?

guessing you have.... sorry i didnt catch you sooner!

saltire · 01/10/2007 12:14

Sorry nannyL. I had left already, but thank you very much for your offer. I got the train, then a taxi up to hospital.
the doctor there, said "it's very non-specific, so just go home, he'll be fine". i did ask what was causing the double visiona nd he said nothing to worry about!
So we are home again

OP posts:
NannyL · 01/10/2007 12:49

glad everything was ok!

at least he ahs now been checked out and you dont need to worry anymore!

saltire · 01/10/2007 12:56

I know, although DS did manage to embarrass me by asking the taxi driver if he was a man or a woman - I did think he was in the middle of a sex change as he looked like both.

belgo · 01/10/2007 12:58

lol at your ds's comment to the taxi driver!

Glad the doctor reassured you.

NannyL · 01/10/2007 13:05

LOL!

princessmel · 01/10/2007 13:11

Glad he's ok saltire but how can they say double vision 'is nothing to worry about'??

helpmehelpme · 01/10/2007 13:15

I would go to your gp asap and ask for a second opinion, double vision is no joke if it doesn't go away.

saltire · 01/10/2007 13:15

princessM - my thoughts exactly, although the doctor seemed very insistent that it was perfectly ok. DS also told the doctor that he gets a very sharp pain in his head when the double vision starts up, that it's maybe 7/8 times a day he gets it and it lasts for a couple of minutes then goes.
He never told me about the headache, just the double vision.

princessmel · 01/10/2007 13:43

Oh dear

I'd go to GP. Thats not good. Poor ds.
