and would really value any input from anyone who might be able to suggest what's going on! I started a thread a while ago about it but can't find it so forgive me for starting a new one.

I have been as regular as clockwork for the last five years or so, since my periods came back after having dd - but six months ago they started to go a bit haywire. My cycles over the last six months have been anything between 22 and 42 days, and bleeding has lasted for between 8 and 16 days.

But this one is just going on and on, this is the 28th day of heavy bleeding and it is showing absolutely no signs of stopping.

I had a GP's appointment booked for tomorrow but they cancelled it and I have to wait Friday next week before I can see the GP - so if anyone has any suggestions in the meantime, to save myself worrying myself stupid, I would be really glad to hear them!

It's getting to be a right bloody nuisance.

I can't help you at all but really feel for you. All this bleeding must be making you feel exhausted, are you taking an iron supplement?

wheelybug · 17/09/2007 13:38

I think my mum had this and it was due to fibroids. She was probably mid forties at the time.

WigWamBam · 17/09/2007 13:39

No, I'm not - probably ought to be, though!

Sounds abit OTT, take an iron supplement and try and get an out of hours appointment. Last time I had prolonged bleeding, I needed an ERPC.

WigWamBam · 17/09/2007 13:43

Fibroids ... thinking about it, I vaguely remember my mother had fibroids when I was a teenager, so she was probably about 40 at the time.

Would I not have other symptoms, though? Might go off and have a google.

ERPC? is that like a D&C?

can you see any GP at your surgery? If so ring them and tell them you'd like to see 'anyone'.

my friend had this and had an operation (day patient in and out) to resolve it.

wheelybug · 17/09/2007 13:47

I don't think you would necessarily. I don't remember my Mum having anything other than very long (and heavy) periods.

Quootiepie · 17/09/2007 13:48

sorry, yes, D & C

WigWamBam · 17/09/2007 13:51

I will try the GP again - I don't really care who I see and I don't really think I want to wait that long.

Can't say I fancy a D&C much ... although hiding my head in the sand isn't going to be much help either!

Thank you.

id call them and say it is an emergency

it might be fine - but it might not - you need to get checked out soon as poss

WigWamBam · 17/09/2007 14:05

Have made an appointment for this Friday morning - which is at least better than waiting until next Friday.

I think I've just been hoping it would go away all by itself.

OP posts:
WotsZePoint · 17/09/2007 14:15

Much better

WigWamBam · 17/09/2007 14:25

Thank you

I know I should have gone months ago. But you know how it is, I just kept thinking that it would just be this one time, it would soon go back to normal ... am a bit of a pillock sometimes.

I had this in my mid-20's. We tried switching round a few different birth control pills but no joy. I had a D&C and it stopped completely. cannot for life of me remember if it was fibroids or something else - this was my only symptom, and the D&C did the trick, so have fogotton all the gory details.

WigWamBam · 17/09/2007 14:31

I so don't want a D&C ...

OP posts:
Squiffy · 17/09/2007 16:28

D&C's are a breeze (have had lots of M/C's too so I've done a few...), you are under for less than an hour, and ready to be discharged a couple of hours or so after you wake up (so long as there is someone there to take you home). A couple of paracetomol and straight to bed and that's about it. Next morning you'll be back on the breakfast run. Compared to the boring boring fed-up-ness you get with bleeding all the time it really is a walk in the park.

Kewcumber · 17/09/2007 16:36

I've also had a couple of D&C's - really they are fine WWB - particularly if you're bnot having them for distressing reason like m/c. Certainly better than 28 day periods

fawkeoff · 17/09/2007 16:51

if i where you i would get an out of hours surgery phoned, and explain to them that ur gp expects you to wait another week before you are seen and there is no sign of af coming anytime soon

fawkeoff · 17/09/2007 16:52

and may i add that i have had 3 d&cs through miscarrying, but they are not as traumatic as ppl think

WigWamBam · 17/09/2007 18:18

I shall have to take your words for it for now - thank you

Bleeding all the time is really starting to p*ss me off now.

Will get myself an iron supplement tomorrow, and let you know how it goes on Friday ... GP will probably only blame my weight, but hey ho!

bozza · 17/09/2007 18:22

I suppose asking if you have changed your contraception is too obvious a question? I had bleeding like this with the implant. It was hideous.

newgirl · 17/09/2007 18:29

my best friend had this and it turned out to be worse than fibroids - im sure friday is soon enough but if it continues to happen next month please make sure it is taken seriously and ask to see a gynae

WigWamBam · 17/09/2007 20:14

No, I haven't changed contraception, Boza. Had to come off the Pill after I had my daughter, so it's condoms all the way.

That's what I've been hiding my head in the sand for, newgirl. I can't say that the thought of something worse hadn't crossed my mind.

bozza · 17/09/2007 20:17

I thought it was unlikely wwb - I assumed that you would have that one figured if it was case.
