Thanks. My only symptoms are a dry mouth, which has only been there for about a week. Blood test next Tuesday but what if I do have a problem with either, what does it mean?

Thanks. I feel very shaky at the thought, have never been in hospital or had anything much wrong with me before.

Oh WWW I've just seen this - fingers crossed everything's OK. It's a bit spooky dooky seeing your thread though because I've got a thyroid disorder and coeliac disease and both can lead to diabetes and I've started getting a very dry mouth as well recently. I've been thinking about going to get a test at Lloyds chemist but haven't got round to doing it yet And Bea if you read this don't tell dp 'cos I don't want her worrying!

Thyroid stuff is very easily manageable (in case your blood tests come up with something). If it's overactive you get Carbimazole and possibly further treatment and if it's underactive you get thyroxine which is a natural hormone (and you get free prescriptions forever - hurrah!). I had Graves disease but now have an underactive thyroid.

I know the waiting's horrible and I also empathise with the panicky feeling that your body's starting to crumble - that's how I've felt - have now got 3 auto immune disorders (also got PCOS) and I sometimes wonder how many more I can have before I break myself...

Sorry, that's not very positive is it Agree with the others that both diseases are very manageable - particularly type 2 diabetes, which would almost certainly be the one you had - if you have it! And thyroid disease is easy peasy to sort out once you're on the correct dose. Anyway, keep us posted, and I might just get myself to Lloyds for a test as well.

hi dottydot, sorry to butt in with unasked for, and prob. unwanted advice, but coeliac and thyroid disorders do not "lead" to diabetes. 'Tis true if you already have an auto-immune thing going on you're more likely to be prone to get another....but T2 diabetes isn't auto-immune and if you have developed T1 (which is auto-immune) you prob. would have more dramatic symptoms than a dry mouth. (thirst, weight loss...?)

I guess if the thyroid disorder has caused you to gain weight over time you might be more at risk of Type 2 diabetes...however with your auto-immune background though I would strongly suggest you get the full lot of tests done (ie tests for auto immune activity (GAD antibodies etc) if you think you may be developing diabetes (type 1 or 2). Don't think the lloyds test thing will be enough for you.

Anyway, will sink back into oblivion, apologies for sticking my oar in but I freely admit that since developing T1 in my 30s have become diabetes bore .....sorry!

www, only read OP and skimmed, but I have lost count (honestly) of the number of times that I have been tested for both diabetes and thyroid problems and have never had either, although last test did show anaemia.

Could the cracking throat be due to acid reflux, which my dad gets? or environmental causes - even chemicals from a new carpet? Maybe you could just have a virus of some kind.

Hope all goes well with the tests. xxx

Was bumping this to see if WWW has got test results back - hope you're OK.

dilbertina -just seen your posting - thanks. Yes, 'lead to' is the wrong phrase. It's interesting though that diabetes type1, coeliac disease and thyroid disorder do seem to be linked - so much so that one of the routine screening tests for newly diagnosed diabetics is the test for coeliac disease. I'm just worried that I'm getting them backwards!

But I'm sure you're right - it's most likely I'm not developing diabetes, particularly type 1 as my symptoms would be more severe/present quicker. I'm having a fasting glucose test on Wednesday just to check - will put my mind at rest!
