Ok do my dentist is closed and my appointment two weeks ago cancelled.

I’ve now got crazy sore toothache!! Called my dentist who’s still taking calls and he has asked about it then said that if I get emergency treatment they will pull the tooth they won’t treat it!! He’s told me to try hang in and take pain killers.

I don’t want a missing tooth as I don’t want the gap! Just bloody typical this happens now!!!

Anyone else in the same boat! X

I was last week. Turns out I had an abscess... my NHS dentist wouldn't treat me but paid private and they cleaned it all out and gave me a course of antibiotics . Was expensive compared to what I would normally pay but worth it to save the tooth

Kel9 · 12/04/2020 12:44

Babycakes1010 I pay for my treatment anyway but still closed and not doing any treatment. Have said I’d need to visit an emergency dentist near the hospital to have it pulled out as they won’t do any treatments! Fml! It’s not swollen it needs a filling but my nerves are sore it’s giving me a sore head!! X

Happybunny199 · 12/04/2020 12:55

@babycakes1010 how much did you pay? x

babycakes1010 · 12/04/2020 12:56

I live in Milton Keynes and went to the hub dental practice...they have a few dotted around the country but not sure where you are? I just called them at 6am as they are open 24-7 and described the issue and they made the decision there and then whether I needed to be seen

Imfinallyhappy1 · 12/04/2020 12:57

I am it had been 2 weeks and I've been in agony. I called my dentist and apparently dentists are not allowed to treat!! I offer a private dentist a grand just to get me out of pain but he said they're not allowed to work so u sure why others can get treatment. I've been wobbling the tooth and I'm going to try and pull it out myself.

MorrisZapp · 12/04/2020 12:58

Seems this depends on where you live. I'm in Edinburgh and was told that due to unavailability of PPE, there is no dental treatment available whatsoever. I was talked through home treatment and given advice tk avoid further deterioration. They said that painkillers and antibiotics were available on prescription but neither apply to me at the moment.

I'm hoping that PPE can get through to the dentistry fromtline soon because ordinary dental surgeries will be amongst the last services released from lockdown, due to the very high infection risk.

Salt water gargle!

MorrisZapp · 12/04/2020 12:59

And you can do your own filling with stuff from the chemist's, larger supermarkets have it too.

Kel9 · 12/04/2020 13:00

Aww right!! I called mine last Tuesday and they said If it gets unbearable and swells id need to call nhs 24 and go to get emergency treatment somewhere but that means my tooth getting pulled! My dentist is closed only phone call advice at this time. So looks like I’ll need to wait it out or get it out!! 🙈

I was told they won't do fillings which luckily I didn't need...just had a deep clean...abscess sorted and a course of antibiotics

babycakes1010 · 12/04/2020 13:01

Where abouts are you?

Kel9 · 12/04/2020 13:02

Yep I’ll wait. Dentist told me to keep an eye on the updates of the clinics possibly opening on Facebook! What a mare !! Mine seems to come in waves of pain! X

I’m in Scotland! I thinks it’s my nerves which is giving me the pain as I need a filling!

babycakes1010 · 12/04/2020 13:10

Have you called round any other dentist? That's how i find this private one ...hopefully you get sorted

babycakes1010 · 12/04/2020 13:10

@Happybunny199....it cost £230 but well worth it to how I'm feeling now

Kel9 · 12/04/2020 13:16

I think it’s a dentist wide thing, I need a filling so they won’t do it. But if you’ve had an abscess they will need to treat that.. the likelihood is later you’ll need a filling too for the same tooth you had the abscess on x

I never get toothache. I have good teeth and go to the dentist and hygienist regularly. But I’ve fucking well got the toothache from hell right now that painkillers don’t touch. I don’t know where to put myself. Half my head aches. The trouble is I’m not really sure which tooth it is, so I don’t think pulling it out is the answer. And I don’t want a gap.
Just come on here to moan really.

Kel9 · 12/04/2020 13:25

I know! My head hurts too!! It’s a pain in the arse and just typical it starts during this!!!! I’ve taken my quota of drugs and it’s still sore might have to open the wine soon!!!

I-Don’t think it’s the lack of Ppe. Dentist can’t use drills so can still do extractions.

AnneKipanki · 12/04/2020 18:41

You will only get an extraction in a Dental Care Hub /Centre . You have to meet certain criteria before you will be seen .
In the first instance , contact your own dental practice for advice .
If you have swelling affecting breathing or eye ..A and E .

Kel9 · 13/04/2020 08:28

Yes I’ve been told only extractions! I’ve been advices to hold off and persevere. It’s so painful though so today I’m calling back... think I might have an infection

Omg thats bad. I know a person who didnt have time to fix their painfull tooth and kept persisting until it got infected. The infection spread through blood and they ended up in hospital for 6 weeks for sepsis. Luckily they didnt die. But since then I am very cautios with toothache - it never leads to anything good :( but obvs its the worst time having teeth problems now

babblingbumblingbandofbaboons · 13/04/2020 09:39

I’m in Scotland and have a tooth abscess.

Most dentists are closed for patients (though are still doing phone consultations). My tooth flared up at a weekend so called NHS 111, who triaged, passed my details to the local NHS board who then got the dental hospital to call me back. Dentist from the hospital diagnosed an abscess from my symptoms and advised that all dentists across the UK cannot drill (due to the risk of infection from aerosol produced) so the options available to me were 1) antibiotics prescribed directly to local pharmacy for pick up 2) extraction at dental hospital if antibiotics didn’t do the job.

Luckily the antibiotics have worked for now and I wouldn’t hesitate to contact either my own dentist or 111 again if it flared up. The aim would be to prevent an extraction before dental treatment can be given in full again.

Kel9 · 13/04/2020 12:42

I have had another phone conversation with my dentist. I’ve got Antibiotics to pick up to keep using pain killers too! X

Kel9 · 13/04/2020 12:44

... hopefully that tides me over until the dentist can open for my treatment x
