Hi.

I know this is gross and no one wants to know and you may all feel free to titter at me. I have recently (in the last two weeks) become sexually active after a long drought. For the last couple of days I have had a kind of spotty rash down below specifically around my anus. Trying to figure out what it might be and the best way to treat it. I have used protection on every occasion I have slept with my new man so it is quite unlikely to be an STD. I am thinking either it is just a rash from being more moist than usual or thrush. There is no smelly discharge. This is what is confusing me.

any opinions on this would be greatly appreciated and I apologise for grossing you out so early in the day! lol

if it's a new relationship are you using condoms? could you be allergic?

fryalot · 11/09/2007 10:12

does it itch?

Overrun · 11/09/2007 10:13

I am not sure of possible causes poorladybits. I suppose it could just be your body reacting to new friction or movement I suppose.
When you have used a condom, did he put it on straight away or was there contact prior to him putting it on?

NotQuiteCockney · 11/09/2007 10:14

I'm afraid I would talk to a medic about this one. I guess you could try using cream on the area, try not to let it stay moist or get too much friction etc.

Alternatively (and I'm sure you'll find this idea appealing), if you can get a good look at it, you might be able to compare it to other rash photos online?

NotQuiteCockney · 11/09/2007 10:15

Is the rash just around your anus? Or in other areas as well? More external ones? Internal?

Poorlyladybits · 11/09/2007 10:19

Yes it is mainly around my anus. I have a few spot-like lumps on my bits but the main irritation is around the anus.It does itch but is more painful.

We use a condom for the duration. Being very careful at the moment because I definitely dont want any more kids at present.

Really considering going to a doctor but I think I will try some canestan or something to see if it relieves it any.

Could it be a reaction to either the rubber or whatever they make condoms out of these days, or the lubricant on them? My sister had an allergic reaction to condoms I kid you not

NotQuiteCockney · 11/09/2007 10:22

Yeast doesn't cause rash, generally. And you're not getting any yeast-like symptoms, so I would not use caneston at this point. It might make things worse.

Could it be contact dermatitis? A reaction against, say, your new partner's soap? Do you get reactions to soaps? Have you been shaving this area more? Or using any different products on it, thanks to your new sex life?

Apparently you can get molluscum genitally. The bumps have indentations in them.

NotQuiteCockney · 11/09/2007 10:23

A reaction to condoms wouldn't mostly be around the anus, it would be in the vagina. Could be from lube or condom lube dripping down?

NotQuiteCockney · 11/09/2007 10:23

This page looks good on rashes. It does sound like you should see a GP, just to be safe.

NotQuiteCockney · 11/09/2007 10:25

This problem sounds like yours (ok, without the unsafe sex, or the bad spelling, but it doesn't sound like either of those is an essential part of the problem).

NotQuiteCockney · 11/09/2007 10:27

And here is a list of genital skin problems.

Poorlyladybits · 11/09/2007 10:30

there is nothing internally so I dont see how it could be the condoms.

Yes I shave more at the moment. that would be a factor. I do suffer from skin reactions. not necessarily to soaps thats why I thought maybe it was from being too wet.

the lumps are spot like as I said but I dont think it could be molluscum as some of the ones further up have faded already.

thankyou for trying to help me with this by the way.

I think shaving/moisture/friction is a likely cause here. Could the spots be ingrown hairs?

Are there any creams you're happy to use, to soothe the area?

Your skin may well adjust to this new situation.

NotQuiteCockney · 11/09/2007 10:32

(No need for thanks, I've been lax in my sex doctoring lately, but it is my job ...)

Overrun · 11/09/2007 10:33

I think I agree with NQC, she is the expert after all. Its a very sensitive area to shave. Get some aloe vera cream/gel maybe?

Poorlyladybits · 11/09/2007 10:36

lol Aloe vera is one thing my skin is very sensitive to. Makes me blister (weird huh?)

I feel much better after this, thanks.

Any suggestions as to what to put on it. Worried about putting anything on it as i dont really want to increase the moisture.

sorry poorly, but there must be some sensitive cream that you can find, if not aloe vera
E45 maybe?

NotQuiteCockney · 11/09/2007 11:26

Things I would try:

  • vaseline. Bit heavy, though
  • ky. It is meant for that area, and is soothing and v neutral
  • E45 maybe. I'd be nervous about it on mucous membranes.
  • olive oil?

Basically, whatever you'd put on your (mouth) lips if they were sore and irritable, is probably worth a go

NotQuiteCockney · 11/09/2007 11:27

Hmm, thing is, imo, your own lubrication is good for your skin. I find chapped skin is soothed by oils etc but not by water, as water is (amusingly) drying.

I suspect the problem here is down to moisture and shaving and friction, not just moisture.

(You haven't changed your washing powder or anything else as well?)

Athletes foot powder !
Dont knock it til you`ve tried it.
The powder will stop the moistness and the contents will kill the thrush-same bacteria.

Overrun · 11/09/2007 14:19

That didn't come out right, I meant it in a Sorry that aloe vera doesn't work, there must be other alternatives but i can't think of any apart from E45.
