Hi everyone. Should I have changed my name for this one??? I have a problem and I know some of you lovely girls can help me. I am suffering terrible trrible night sweats. So much so that I have to change my bedding every day. Literally soaking. Nice. AND-this is even more of a problem. I have one-just one-very very wet armpit. Not smelly (!!) just so wet that it is seriously affecting what I can wear. Have tried strong deodorant but am thinking botox could be only answer. Any suggestions as to why this is happening and what I can do??? A huge sweaty thanks in advance (and I seriously think my DH will come back to me!!!)

Have you been to the Doctors about it? If not a would. How long has this been happening?

Marina · 01/10/2004 10:52

spook, I would speak to the GP about this one, just to be on the safe side. Sweat is a glandular issue, so you might possibly have a virus, or be post-viral, or one of your glands might have gone into overdrive.
I think generally your glands can be affected by profound stress in your life, could this be a delayed physical reaction to the horrible times you have had recently?
PS Sweaty Betties find a good strong ANTI-PERSPIRANT like Mitchum can help keep rivulets at bay...

spook · 01/10/2004 11:05

Hi SaintShar and Marina. Haven't been to docs. My friend thinks the problem could be the DRY pit!! In which case if he fixes that I'll have two gushers instead of two dry ones. But I do realise I must go to GP. Think it could be stress related. Would make sense wouldn't it. Only started few months ago.
PS. This sweaty betty has tried Mitchum. Bout as much use as choclate teapot

I think you should definitely see your GP. My Dad and my brother are very sweaty people and it's something to do with an over-active gland in the neck - there is surgery available but I believe it's quite hit and miss with regard to getting the right gland.

There are stronger anti-perspirants than Mitchum available - Driclor which you can also get in Boots. My brother used this for a while and said it was very effective. It's an actual treatment, rather than something which just alleviates the symptoms - you cut down use after a while, once the problem has improved.

But I would definitely visit your GP first!

spook · 01/10/2004 11:31

Oh thanks Marthamoo. I have just ordered some. But I promise I will see my GP!

marthamoo · 01/10/2004 11:32

Hope it helps, spook - but do please see your GP too (nag, nag, nag!)

blossomhill · 01/10/2004 11:36

I use driclor spook and it really helps. I only need to put it on once a month!

spook · 01/10/2004 11:40

Blossomhill-will it really stop my one pit from gushing??? I will be so so grateful to it!!

Honestly spook. 2 years ago as I was about to get married I went to see my gp and burst into tears. I was wearing a busier style dress that was silk. I knew my day would be ruined with huge patches of sweat, especially silk - nightmare. She told me about driclor and I haven't looked back. Finally I can wear red, pink, lightblue. Colours I couldn't wear before as I had huge marks under my arms. It is only about £4 from boots and I have had that same bottle for 2 years!

spook · 01/10/2004 11:46

Oh oh oh Blossomhill. THANKYOU!! I am so excited. Maybe I will get into my Diane Von Fustyburger....this could revolutionise my life-not wearing the dress but not sweating!! (Oh get a grip Spook)

It can take over your life about though can't it? It did with me to the point that I hated going out and would constantly have my arms down by my side

spook · 01/10/2004 13:44

I'm getting to that point Blossomhill. Whenever they have pics of sweaty celebs in magazines I always shift uncomfprtably in my seat. At Soap Awards the other night my friend was on "Pit Watch" for me. More like "Pissed Watch" by the end of the night.

Thanks Coddy. Think night sweats are deffo hormonal. Had to change bedding yesterday morning and started period that day. But as for my one pit...driving me up the chuffing wall. It's SUCH an attractive look.

OP posts:
SofiaAmes · 01/10/2004 14:26

spook please go see your gp BEFORE you start using the driclor. Your friend is right, you do need to have the dry pit looked at.

spook · 01/10/2004 16:14

Hi SofiaAmes. I promise I will on Monday. But why would it be the dry one? Please don't tell me my gusher is the normal one!!

OP posts:
JoolsToo · 01/10/2004 16:17

How old are you? - menopause? it can happen early (36 for me!)

spook · 01/10/2004 16:18

Oh God-I'm 37...

SofiaAmes · 01/10/2004 21:51

It is normal to sweat. It's not normal not to sweat at all. If in fact you are sweating on one side (although profusely) and not at all on the other side, there may be something wrong/blocked. However, it's probably just that you are sweating normally on one side and way too much on the other and it just feels like one side isn't sweating.
If it makes you feel any better, I come from a really sweaty smelly family. And both my exh and my dh were very non-sweaty types. It infuriates me that if I forget to put deodorant on after a shower in the morning, I am sweaty and stinky by noon, while my dh (who does manual labor all day) never ever wears deodorant and never smells. My cousin had an operation to stop his hands from being really sweaty.

yoyo · 01/10/2004 21:53

Can anyone tell me if it is safe to use a strong anti-perspirant, e.g. Driclor, when breastfeeding?
