Anyone had a hard ganglion?

I’ve had a lump on the top of my foot for a while - thought it was a lump of bone at first but when I went to see the doctor she said she thought it was the start of a ganglion. She could move it - I thought it didn’t move and it was the tendon moving but she assured me it did.
She said to go back if it got bigger but told
Me it was 3mm - yet it felt much bigger to me so shows how much I know.
Just noticed it again tonight and I think it may have got a big bigger but hard to tell. It’s stil really hard.
Wondering about going back for a second opinion as I really thought ganglion were soft!

I had one in a finger joint and had to have surgery to remove it which actually had a pretty long recovery time. So if I were you I’d just lump it. Grin

They are harmless!

Thanks @backonceagainwithaburneremail I was just a bit freaked out by how hard it is having not paid it attention for a while! But it seems like these pesky hard ganglia are really quite common so lumping it is probably very good advice! Grin

I had one on my foot. GP said do NOT hit it with a book! They can be known as a Bible cyst due to the theory about whacking them with one.

I took max dose ibuprofen for a week, as suggested by GP, and it went!

Yes, I had one on my wrist as a child. the doctor whacked it with a book and it went away. Absolutely true story!!!

Exactly the same for me. Came back a couple of moths later but then disappeared. Never had one since.

My vote is for Gail the ganglion

I have to go to the doctor tomorrow about something else, so might get them to do a double check just to be sure...and see whether they recommend any book bashing!

At work in a minor injuries unit the nurses were desperate to hit mine with the nearest large book. I ran from them, the freaks!

Keep Gertrude Gail the First safe.

Gilbert, that's the proper name for a ganglion, and not with a hard G, said with a soft G, like a french person schjilllllllll-BEEEEAARRRRRRR

and wait till the morning to hit him, if you do it now it's going to be sore all night and keep you awake....give it a right good whack in the morning and get about your day.

@Bellasblankexpression are you taking ibuprofen? It was the achey pain that made me see a GP. Ibuprofen helped a lot.

Oooh! I had to have mine surgically removed as it was sooooooo big and ugly. They tried to drain it first, went down a bit then filled up. Mine was on my wrist, looked like a wrist knuckle on the other side. Book bash didn’t work. And hurt!

I had mine removed too. It was weird as I couldn’t actually see it; it was so deep in my wrist. Eventually it grew so big it pushed a bone out of place, and so the doctors removed it as day surgery. It ached a lot, and after the surgery had healed I never looked back - and it hasn’t reappeared. Word of warning though - the contrast dye and MRI possibly hurt more than childbirth. I knew it would be bad when they strapped me down before they injected me ‘as a few people have fallen from the bed with the pain of it...’

I have one on the top of my spine. Thought it was a tumour but doc said nope it's a ganglion. I appreciate I'm a bit of a freak. It's been there about 6 years come to think of it. Is that normal?

My DH has one for at least 10 years. He won't let me whack it Shock
My DSis used the Bible on here and that worked.

I had one between my palm and my finger. Only the size of a pea but it hurt to hold things, drive etc. Dr drained it with a needle. Hurt like fuck. He said it might come but but it never did.

I had one on my wrist from when ds was a baby until I stopped lifting & carrying him regularly and then it disappeared. Don't hit it with a book! Gp could drain it but quite a chance it will come back (or so mine told me)

I used to have one on my wrist that ached a lot after I had rubbed it, or put weight on my wrist, so yes they can ache.

Mine disappeared of its own accord eventually, though my Grandad used to offer to whack it for me with a heavy book.

Haven't thought about it for years . . .

Omg I’m so glad I found this thread.
I have one on my left hand on my palm at the bottom of my pinky finger. It has grown over the last few months and moves... makes me feel sick so I went to see my doctor and he referred me for a scan.

I’ve got it on the 22nd October.
Doctor said that the NHS are cutting back on cosmetic procedures and they won’t remove it unless absolutely necessary.
It pisses me off and I can feel it all the time.

I’m going to give it a name as I may hate it less. Am going with Gordon.
