Ds bumped heads with his cousin today (they're both 4)and his 2 front teeth have been pushed inwards . They are at an angle. There was blood everywhere. Lots of crying and screaming. From all of us. Not ideal I know but it was shocking to see.

We took him to A&E and they saw him pretty quickly.

After they'd checked him over incase of a head injury they told us to call an out of hours dental hotline.

We did this and they basically said to take him to our dentist tomorrow.
We have to give him neurofen and calpol every 3 hours alternatly through the night.

Dh is so upset about it. He feels like he didn't protect his son We didn't see it happen. I was in the kitchen making tea and they kids were outside with their auntie.

Ds is ok but he looks different and sounds different when he talks.

The options as far as I can see are ( not good really)

  1. teeth stay bent, but in, till they fall out naturally
  2. teeth go black, die and fall out
  3. teeth are removed by dentist
  4. teeth are straightened by dentist. I dont think this is going to happen though.

A few children I know have had their teeth knocked and they've been wobbly but stayed in and were ok. Ds's are not wobbly. Just bent.

Sorry its long.

Your poor son (and DH!!!). DS1 had one tooth affected like that - it blackened but did not come out. DH (also very upset) took him immediatley to the dentist who said would not be able to tell until the second tooth came through if there was any damage to them. The affected tooth came out naturally when the new one grew, and it was perfect, so there is hope.

My ds knocked his 2 front teeth. One was hanging out and the other was knocked into the gum. Knocked out one was replanted and the one in his gum was eased down. We were told that if they hadn't gone grey one year on then they would be okay. They have been fine for the last 7 or 8 years so we are thinking the treatment was a success.
One of my dds had front 2nd teeth growing inward behind her milk teeth. When the milk teeth fell out we asked the dentist what could be done to straighten the 2nd teeth. Answer - no need to do anything. Being a strong muscle, the tongue pushed them into place over time.

So, I'm not a dentist but I would say that if your ds teeth are not loose then it's possible that they may get pushed back into place if they are not too far back.
Of your options:

  1. teeth may straighten out over time.
  2. Maybe, but if they are still firmly attached, maybe not.
  3. Not sure why a dentist would remove them unless they are really bad.
  4. Dentist might straighten them. Why not?

I'd go to the dentist asap then at least you know you've done as much as you can.

Oh, forgot to say, ds teeth were his second teeth.

Hi everyone

I'm calmer tonight.

Phoned dentist and they told me to bring him straight in. She took one look at him and said that he's fine.
I wouldn't go that far!
She said his teeth are ok and are solid. They're not wobbly.

She said that they could discolour but we'll just have to wait and see
She also said that they may die and fall out but she kept saying 'but thats ok, it doesn't matter as they're his baby teeth' . I dont fel quite the same way!

I'm pleased that we went though. She also did my check up and clean at the same time and checked dd

Its upsetting that he looks different. I think thats whats bothering us. His top lip is all swollen and puffy. He's lisping a bit too. I hope when that goes down he wont look much different.

Thanks xx

Hello is ComeOVeneer around?? I have a question for her.

There is now gum poking through the 2 frontteeth that were knocked. It got slightly knocked the other day when he took his t shirt off and bled everywhere.

My dd has had two accidents in the last month which have involved her teeth getting bashed. The former beautiful regular arc of her smile is now a bit altered. I am seriously tempted to get her some kind of gum shield to prevent further mishap but I suppose it wouldn't be practical.

that's good princessmel! dd bashed heads with someone a few months ago - blood everywhere....couldn't see where it was coming from, and her top lip looked like Lesley Ash after the bad botox job!! Her tooth was quite wobbly ( I thought it would fall out) but eventually settled itself, and the greyness from the blood seems to be disappearing. She's almost 6 so will loose her teeth soon anyways, but it was awful. glad your son's ok ( and you too!)
