Ds's Two front teeth bashed in :( Any one got any experience of this??

Ds bumped heads with his cousin today (they're both 4)and his 2 front teeth have been pushed inwards . They are at an angle. There was blood everywhere. Lots of crying and screaming. From all of us. Not ideal I know but it was shocking to see.

We took him to A&E and they saw him pretty quickly.

After they'd checked him over incase of a head injury they told us to call an out of hours dental hotline.

We did this and they basically said to take him to our dentist tomorrow.
We have to give him neurofen and calpol every 3 hours alternatly through the night.

Dh is so upset about it. He feels like he didn't protect his son We didn't see it happen. I was in the kitchen making tea and they kids were outside with their auntie.

Ds is ok but he looks different and sounds different when he talks.

The options as far as I can see are ( not good really)

  1. teeth stay bent, but in, till they fall out naturally
  2. teeth go black, die and fall out
  3. teeth are removed by dentist
  4. teeth are straightened by dentist. I dont think this is going to happen though.

A few children I know have had their teeth knocked and they've been wobbly but stayed in and were ok. Ds's are not wobbly. Just bent.

Sorry its long.

Have read it LGJ. It still didn't cheer me up I'm afraid. She said denist prob wont do anything.
He'll have black/grey/brown bent teeth till he's 6 then his big teeth may come through bent aswell.

He is so brave though bless him.

He was just upset as couldn't go on any of the rides at the fair. Its at the end of our road and we promised him we'd take him all week. They were too bouncy and I didn't want anything else happening to the teeth.
We did win him a fish though. Which I think is illegal. It cheered him up though. He named it Optimus Prime.

Oh dear. There doesn't seem to be an optimistic spin on this one.

Other than, you'll get used to it, it's not the end of the world. Nobody will notice - they all get dead gummy and weird looking in a minute anyway.

orangehead · 12/08/2007 21:05

done dental nursing 4 12 yrs have never seen a green or brown tooth or heard of it, not saying it cant happen but must be rare, majorty go slightly grey with a few going a big darker. wouldnt worry to much

singersgirl · 12/08/2007 21:06

DS1 knocked his 2 front milk teeth loose falling out of a tree at 6. They pulled them in A&E as they weren't salvageable. No abscesses or anything else, though a lot of bruising and cuts to heal. He was just gappy for a long time - top teeth only came through at 8!

princessmel · 12/08/2007 21:07

I know, his teeth will come out soon , well soon ish.

I just can't imagine them being grey or black till then.

He had such cute teeth. Look how lovely they were on my profile pics.

Oh well. He still is lovely.

Thanks for all your input everyone.

My dd knocked her front tooth out two years ago (she's five) - the dentist said she'd just 'have one of those smiles' until her big teeth arrived. I think dentists are resistent to interfere with milk teeth as they are effectively protecting the new teeth and so unless they're very wobbly I suspect they will be left in situ and they may not even discolour at all so as long as there is no health risk your boy too will just 'have one of those smiles'

singersgirl · 12/08/2007 21:08

DS2 has a discoloured front tooth, got from falling on marble floors when learning to walk. Both his front teeth are also chipped, for the same reason. I've stopped noticing, TBH. He is still gorgeous - as was gappy DS1. It is very upsetting though, and I'm sorry it's happened to your little boy.

The world is obsessed with appearance.

Second teeth, I would be right there driving you all to the dentist but please get over it.

I have a scar that starts under my left ear travels for several inches then drops down to my collar bone. Now that is something to worry about, or rather it would be if I was a child.

And breathe.............

princessmel · 12/08/2007 21:14

Ok point taken.

But seeing him covered in blood today was very shocking. Plus he looks different. I'm upset. Thats all.

bree a bit unneccesary, yes there is alot worse things in the world, but that doesnt mean we cant have abit of a worry over smaller things

binklehasflipped · 12/08/2007 21:15

Bree, I have a similiar scar, only it goes up the side of my ear as to my hairline as well....yours is not from a mastoidectomy is it?

binklehasflipped · 12/08/2007 21:16

princess, for the record, I was GUTTED when dd knocked her tooth out - because of the blood - because of the loss of a part of her (although that sounds daft) = so very understandable IMO

NotADragonOfSoup · 12/08/2007 21:18

Of course you're upset, he's your PFB DS1 fell down the stairs at 15 months and chipped a front tooth, blood everywhere, devastated mother... DS2 fell out of a toy trolley and did the same at a similar age, mother rolls eyes and mops him up, DD falls over and cuts her head on a stone fireplace requiring seri-strips, mother thinks "Oh FFS!"

FWIW, DS2's front teeth were pushed out of alignment by his mishap. They didn't go grey and look pretty much fine now he's 6.

BreeVanDerCampLGJ · 12/08/2007 21:22

Binkle

I had all of my lymphnodes removed. Long story, but they were pre-cancerous. Two hour operation turned into four. Month of radiotherapy, etc.,

BreeVanDerCampLGJ · 12/08/2007 21:24

PrincessMel

That comment was aimed at everyone going over the top, not just you.

I said I would be driving you all to the dentist.

binklehasflipped · 12/08/2007 21:25

I had my lymph gland removed with the mastoid...very long op but successful = no radio needed thankfully, did leave me with Bell's Palsy for two months though

BreeVanDerCampLGJ · 12/08/2007 21:29

Most of my nerves grew back eventually, my party piece is if I scratch my back I feel it in my neck.

NotADragonOfSoup · 12/08/2007 21:29

And how do you demonstrate that at parties??

BreeVanDerCampLGJ · 12/08/2007 21:31

On a good day my neck muscle twitches slightly.....

LGJ notes.... that is one more good reason for Soupy not to do meetups....

NotADragonOfSoup · 12/08/2007 21:33

And on a bad day...? No, don't answer that

binklehasflipped · 12/08/2007 21:35

GOD I hate that feeling!!! and the palsy was nightmarish! Had my op at beginning of decemeber and managed to get myself up and about to go to my work christmas do two weeks later but had to wear those big fake red lips you get in a cracker for all the photos and my own refused to co-operate with any expression I wanted to put on at all - snogging out of the question completely too!!

The worst bit of the op day was when the surgeon draw a great big black X on side of my neck with marker and dashes up the side of my face and down my neck just before the sedation bit - that really did freak me out - oh - and waking up with the drain in me going down to the bottle on the floor - ugh!!!

jangly · 12/08/2007 21:39

Wow! ComeOVeneer knows what she's talking about doesn't she! My daughter's front permanent tooth came through slightly chipped and I always believed it was where she knocked the corresponding baby tooth on a climbing frame. Now ComeOVeneer has said this does happen. So I was right! Apologies to the OP. Don't mean to worry you, just impressed with the information.

princessmel · 12/08/2007 21:46

Tis ok lgj.

Night everyone,

I'll see how we get on at dentist in the morning.
