Brain surgery today, scared

That's it really.

I'm not afraid of dying, I'm afraid of leaving my wonderful child. We're ridiculously close...we both have Aspergers and 'get' each other, and although he loves DH very much he'd struggle without me.

And most of all I'm afraid of brain damage. The awfulness of the stage between living and dead is horrendous.

It's all so sudden. I was only admitted on Friday night unexpectedly, now they're sawing my head open later this morning to deal with a bleed and tumour. A couple of days ago I was planning an active bank holiday weekend outdoors.

Has anyone had this done and woken up fine and dandy and happy to have had the surgery?

Thanks.

Good luck @Gumbo, I had a craniotomy for a benign brain tumour 5 years ago, it seems like a lifetime ago.
It’s hard being far away from friends and family, I couldn’t wait to get home.

I had my driving licence taken away for a year but in reality it takes longer to get back. I got help from Access to Work for taxi journeys to work so this is something you may like to investigate.

I'm really glad to hear you're still doing well. The tiredness will get better. Hang on in there!

Gumbo · 08/09/2019 07:24

So. I'm eating much better now... lost 6kg but my weight has stablised which is good.

I can't believe that 2 weeks ago I hadn't even had surgery yet, such a lot has happened during that time. I had another CT scan this week, got yet another MRI next week but so far so good. Apparently my case is 'rare' so there are medical people coming out of the woodwork wanting to see/discuss it... which is all very well but I just want my life back.

Anyhow, my work are being awesome so far (fortunately since my job involves driving - I'm trying not to think about that right now)

I've been walking further each day, going nearly a mile now. Want to start cycling again but my body is currently telling me not to which is probably a good thing.

Thanks for all the input and support, it really helped Smile

Great update Gumbo. Keep going Thanks

Trooperslaneagain · 08/09/2019 10:14

You are doing smashing, @Gumbo!

A very good friend of my daughter (who was 2.5 when diagnosed) has had 13+ surgeries. He's a wee soldier and he's been looked after - I can't even find the words - so well. Those surgeons, radiographers and nurses and doctors are bloody legends.

I'll light a wee candle for you tonight. x

I find these posts so inspiring, they make you feel embarrassed of moaning and groaning at life's minor annoyances. Well done Gumbo keep going! Flowers

Walking nearly a mile just two weeks after brain surgery? You're amazing. 👍🏽
