I'm bruising and don't know why :(

Well, I do know why I have one of them ... I caught my leg very very slightly on the corner of my bed. There was a tiny red mark perhaps the size of half a 5p. A bruise has appeared 3" long and an 1" wide.

I have a massive deep purple one on my thigh. On my other thigh one has appeared tonight.
I have one on my arm. On my knee. Two on my leg. All new. All today.
I do an office job. Nothing manual at home this week.
I also (not sure if related) can't stop wanting to wee !

Should I be concerned ? I can see another one under the skin on my upper arm :(

opinionminion you will not be wasting a GP appointment. Take photos of the bruises in case they do fade and book an emergency GP appointment on Monday. It could be nothing but it could mean you have a serious health problem. You will need blood tests. I know someone who has a platelet disorder and just suddenly developed it and her first symptom was lots of bruises. She has been very ill
Take photos of the bruises and get to the GP asap

BoreOfWhabylon · 02/08/2019 22:26

Don't Google, it will scare you. I really don't think you should leave this. Is there a walk-in centre where you are? Or ring 111 and they may get you in to see an OOH GP over the weekend.

Benjispruce · 02/08/2019 22:29

Don’t panic op. Just get a check up. Do post back though as it helps others.

opinionminion · 02/08/2019 22:30

Benjispruce
Blood test will be another bruise I expect !!!
Smartiecake
I have a very good GP practice thankfully. I'll call first thing Monday.
Good idea - I'll get snapping now !!!

I won't google. I am working all weekend. If more appear I'll go to a walk in centre after work.
I don't feel unwell.
I will report back.
I'm going to do my photo shoot now !!! Then to bed.

Thankyou for all of your advice.

Good idea. Take care.

mineofuselessinformation · 02/08/2019 22:46

See your GP to get a blood test in that case. It might be that your platelet level is low for some reason.

Gingernaut · 02/08/2019 22:49

Anaemia is a likely suspect.

Upgrade your diet, take a supplement and if it's still happening in a few weeks, then visit your GP.

katewhinesalot · 02/08/2019 22:51

Fingers crossed for you.

My DD bruises easy and is a lot worse when her iron count is low. Definitely have a blood test.

swingofthings · 03/08/2019 09:33

My DD is also one who bruises easily. A few years back, she showed me all her bruises which she said she knew nothing a out how it happened. She also had random tiny round bruises on her thighs. I really panicked, she we t to get a blood test and all fine. Then last year, we were on hols and I ended up sharing a double bed with her. That was an experience! She moves and turns so violently in her sleep, I could start to guess how she was getting quite a few bruises.

That was 4 years ago and she is perfectly healthy but still full of bruises all oer her body.

Oldmum55 · 03/08/2019 09:40

My mother in law was on a lot of different medications and yet she was told it was just part of ageing which I didn't believe. Not all older people are black and blue!

Branster · 03/08/2019 09:43

You wouldn’t waste the GP’s time. It could happen for a number of reasons. Please go and see them, you might have a temporary issue or it could be a condition you will monitor long term.
It could be related to some medication you are taking or a blood condition or anything.
Your GP will elucidate the mystery and you’ll feel much better for addressing this problem. It is unusual to get such a sudden bruise problem without clear localise outside trauma.

Hazza000 · 03/08/2019 09:58

@Gingernaut more likely platelets anaemia will cause breathlessness not bruising that would be a low platelet count. Either way blood tests would be a hood idea.

opinionminion · 03/08/2019 22:30

Thankyou for all of your comments. I've taken them on board. No more new bruises today. Will get to see my Dr as soon as I'm able. You are all very kind Smile

I’ll be blunt and post what everyone else is using euphemism for.

You need to see your doctor ASAP because unexplained bruising is a symptom of leukaemia

Other symptoms could easily be confused with menopause and hay fever: night sweats, breathlessness, fatigue - feeling weary to your bones sometimes joint/bone pain. Bleeding gums. Difficulty shaking off infections. All fairly non-specific (with possible exception of the bruising).

Straightforward full blood count should rule it out (I hope it’s ruled out for you), but I think it’s important to get that done straightaway, and then look in slower time for other possible causes

galvantula · 06/08/2019 15:42

I'm not talking leukemia, i had an autoimmune condition where your body destroys your platelets, it can have no symptoms, but bruising is common.

If it's caught a course of steroids should be all you need, but if not it can cause dangerous internal bleeds I believe.

PenguinsRabbits · 06/08/2019 17:46

If you haven't had blood tests done recently then think its worth going to GP and saying and they can run some.

I get random bruising all the time on legs and no idea why but my bloods always come back normal when tested for other things so can't be anything to worry about for me.

opinionminion · 07/08/2019 19:05

I'm going to the Drs on Wednesday so will hopefully get a blood test.
Thankyou for your replies.

Branster · 14/08/2019 23:18

opinionminion hope all OK after the visit to dr

fedup21 · 14/08/2019 23:21

Did the doctor run tests?

MidnightMystery · 14/08/2019 23:38

Could be anaemia, that can cause you to bruise easily.

minmooch · 14/08/2019 23:40

Hope the dr put your mind at ease @opinionminion

SpringIsSprung1 · 14/08/2019 23:48

Essential thrombocythemia. I have this. Wondered wtf was wrong with me until I had a genes test.
