I gave up for 4 months earlier in the year, got super fit and felt wonderful.
But just before I went on holiday I had 2 disasters and just reached for the fags, and am still smoking now 3 months on.
I am currently working in a cancer hospital and even though this should put me off, I get so stressed and upset there that I smoke, and then get more stressed and upset because I'm still smoking.
I have tried since coming back but everytime I pick a day it never happens. I havent been to the gym for ages and feel like shit most of the time.

So please help me try again, I finish this placement on Saturday so that might be an option, and I have a nicotine inhalator that I used previosuly to give up.

Any tips or advice?

charliecat that website looks fab, I will have a proper look later as I'm in work soon.

Good for you QoQ I take my hat off to you, I couldnt do it without some help, but found that I didnt need the inhalor all that long last time, maybe a couple of weeks and I was nicotine free.

Thanks for all your help and tips. Watch this space for me and QoQ being grumpy bitches who are climbing the walls (well for a day or two anyway)

very best of luck! i used Zyban and Paul McKenna at new year and haven't smoked since. i just don't want to. I'd tried various nicotine replacemnt through the years and nothing worked at all.

not sure where all the money I've saved has gone though. .

Aitch · 31/07/2007 11:54

i bought some reallyfancy schmantzy incense from space NK and i used to burn that to give me a smoke-fix. even outside...
meant i didn't have to give up my lovely lighter and i got the 'break' that smoking used to give me, but without actually smoking. after a while the idea of setting some paper and leaves on fire and then sucking it three inches from your face becomes Most Odd.

TheQueenOfQuotes · 31/07/2007 11:57

oh don't take your hat off to me - I've been thinkg/trying to quit since September - when I found out I was pg with DS3 . Managed to quit with my first 2 pg's but just couldn't do it this time. However, I'm now getting fed up of it and am absolutely determined that I'm going to stop. Like you I don't smoke many a day - maximum of 10 a day(on a really stressful day lol) but usually around 5 or 6 but even so I'll save a lot money by stopping too.

fakeblonde · 31/07/2007 13:04

Mosschops 30-i would love to join you on Sun.
I am really embarrassed because i am a midwife.
Like you i gave up smoking, felt wonderful, then got stressed over something and started again.
I hate the fact that i smoke and because i do i get even more stressed.
I gave up last time using the inhaler also.
Sun would be a good day to start because i`ll be busy anyway all day.
I have my inhaler on the ready and will circle the day.
What helped me last time, was whenever i craved a ciggy, i knew i would have forgotton after a few minutes-so i literally carried on like that.I only needed one lot of refills because i then realised i had been sucking on an empty cartridge for a couple of days !
Noone except my dh knows i smoke either

TheQueenOfQuotes · 31/07/2007 13:04

yay 3 of us

mosschops30 · 31/07/2007 21:27

hi fakeblonde, I know exactly what you mean, I look after these patients all day who are dying from a cruel and scary disease, then I come home and first thing I do is have a fag. I guess you probably dont smoke in work either, its amazing how we can go 10 hours without one isnt it.

Have told dh sunday is the day so we'll come back here and see how we're getting on and support each other (god knows I'll need it )

Hello, I have just given up smoking today, for the umpteenth time... It must be about the third time I give up this year. In the past I have been smoke-free for two years, only to start again. I find it's not the giving up that is the hardest for me, it's the starting again...

I am going cold turkey as I have tried nicotine replacement products but they didn't work for me. I chew a lot of gum and drink a lot of green tea, that seems to help.

I also keep telling myself how much I hate the smell of tobacco on me and my clothes, how much time and money I am wasting, and how much my dd hates it.

You can count on my support! and no doubt I'll be needing yours...

TheQueenOfQuotes · 31/07/2007 21:42

I'm not going to tell DH......I know what he'll say something along the lines of "oh yeah......" (he doesn't smoke, never has and gave up trying to get me to quit years ago).....so instead I shall just quit and wait for him to notice (which he will as I won't be popping outside into the garden at odd hours of the evening for a ciggie )

Devonshire · 31/07/2007 21:50

another vote for allen carr here. i had to read and re-read this about 3 times before something sank in to my head and just "clicked". the last cigarette i smoked (on 20 july 2002!) tasted really yuk and i felt sick as i smoked it..

as has been said, you really have to be in the mental state to WANT to stop or else it won't work.

best of luck to all of you quitters!

mosschops30 · 02/08/2007 10:41

hey mammya hows it going? Hope youre still fag free, well done to you for taking the plunge on your own

So QoQ and fakeblonde are we all reafy for Sunday? I picked up a leaflet from work yesterday about all the nasty cancers that smoking helps along. I havent read it yet, saving it for some light reading on saturday night

mammya · 02/08/2007 13:03

Well Mosschops, I'm afraid I fell off the wagon yesterday (working from home you see...). I went to the shop to buy the paper and before I knew it I'd bought some fags! Today I am in the office and back on the wagon, the temptation is not so great here. (I threw the remaining cigs in the big communal bin - so I can't go and fish them back...)

Good luck to you all for Sunday!

mosschops30 · 02/08/2007 14:52

for you mammya but dont worry about it, you can always join us on the sunday

TheQueenOfQuotes · 02/08/2007 14:56

I think so - although I keep wondering what I'm going to do when I'm really stressed and need "5 minutes at the end of the garden".......

mosschops30 · 02/08/2007 15:15

thats why i like the inhalator QoQ because I can literally go down the garden and smoke it (all these tricks of having a glass of water, piece of fruit just dont work for me).

Heres to Sunday girls

mosschops30 · 02/08/2007 20:26

OP posts:
TheQueenOfQuotes · 02/08/2007 20:28

where do you get these inhalators then? I've never heard of them before.........are they very expensive???

filthymindedvixen · 02/08/2007 20:30

Alan carr did it for me, despite numerous failed attempts in the past.
Gave up Decemeber 23 and still going strong.

mosschops30 · 02/08/2007 20:34

great news filthy, we will soon be joining you

QoQ i got mine on prescription from the dr so whatever your prescription costs (free in Wales). My doc had no problem with me having one and gave me lots of refils on the same script so I only had to pay one charge (b4 april when we had to pay).

It worked for me because the patches dont give you that kick when you really crave a fag and this does. I would go outside as usual at my normal times and puff away on it so didnt feel like i was missing out (in fact i smoked it everywhere in the car, in lectures, in the cafe at lunch etc).

Would you have chance to get one tomorrow?

OP posts:
GibbonInARibbon · 02/08/2007 20:34

Allan Carr is amazing - has worked for everyone I know (myself included)

We are brainwashed into think stopping smoking is the hardest thing to do. But it's not...it's easy and even enjoyable.

I was a chain smoker and I read the book in 2 days and never looked back. Stopping was a buzz.

TheQueenOfQuotes · 02/08/2007 20:37

I doubt I'd be able to get one tomorrow - or Dr.s surgery are cr*p at getting to see anyone at short notice unless you're on your death bed.......(well practically).

TheQueenOfQuotes · 02/08/2007 20:38

oh and if I do get on it'll be free as I'm still on my Maternity Exemption Certificate

I did try the gum - but I'd have some.....and then go out for a cigarette anyhow - think it was more the "something in hand to puff on" I needed..

binklehasflipped · 02/08/2007 20:38

log on MN everytime you feel you want to smoke - will keep your hands busy!!

southeastastra · 02/08/2007 20:39

i have an inhalor sitting there staring at me

mosschops30 · 02/08/2007 20:39

£5.85 in Boots for the Inhalor started pack (cant do a link sorry)
no excuse now and cheaper than getting it on prescription
