CHCKEN POX QUESTIONS

DD1 has chicken pox since friday and is feeling very miserable...I'm a bit worried, she's really tired and is now sleeping and 38 degrees temperature. Is it normal ?

Also, I have another little DD, she's almost 10 weeks old and is exclusively bf, is she immune against chicken pox or should I expect her as well to get chicken pox ?

Thank you for your kind help

Those symptoms sound normal - if you are worried, then speak to your GP.

It is possible that your 10 week old can catch it - if possible, keep her away from dd1. But hopefully she is immune, and even if she does catch it, it may be very mild and she could catch it again when she's older.

mine had her for a week so she is just getting over it now plus her appetite is back too. Yes my DD sweated like a pig in bed for 4 nights and yes try keep your DD2 away from DD1 if possible

My ds got cp at 3 months - just met a child that was incubating at a coffee morning - her spots came out the following day.

He was exclusively bf, and this was minimal contact, so don't be surprised if dc2 gets it as well. However, likely to be less severe and hopefully won't be able to scratch spots much (face rub was the best that ds could do (very vigorously)).

quiveutmabonnebaguette · 23/07/2007 11:06

Really ? I tought you had to wait 5 days and hop you could go ! So I have to wait until all the spots get some scabs..nice

DDs first ones that scabbed over was on her scalp...which is covered in hair and a few inside her bottom lip!

hello, my DD1 11 months has just been excluded from nursery today as she's got blisters on her inside leg, head, lip and face. she's sleeping pretty well, has no appetite and will only eat yoghurt and banana and doesn't seem to have a temperature. does this sound normal. she's acting a bit strangely but is still pretty happpy - keeps putting her head on the floor and resting there with bum in the air!

helpfully, my mother can't remember if i had cp so i'm not sure whether i should go to the doctor or not.

is the idea to just wait for scabs to form?

LazyLineLegilimens · 25/07/2007 19:58

DS has just got over it (mainly). On around the 3rd or 4th day he developed an on/off temp of about 38.6 or so for a couple of days. It's normal.

littleboo · 26/07/2007 13:25

if you had chickenpox yourself as a child then your little one would certainly have some of your immunity.

Your toddler, spots tend to crust over after about 5-6 days in general, may have temperatures on and off over that period.
Ver .... very occasionally child develop things like chest infections afterwards, so if temps don't start coming down see your GP.

Try calamine and aqueous cream ( keep cool in fridge) smother it on, better than calamine on its own which tends to dry out skin. Or Eurax in small amounts
Loads to drink, calpol etc.

moodlesoup · 26/07/2007 20:04

sorry for being totally useless - but my DH and i are debating when to use calamine or aqueous - he thinks to wait till scabs form rather than when the little blisters are around... what's the right thing to do?
thanks

littleboo · 27/07/2007 08:39

if the spots are irritating him use it then, if not I wouldn't bother, the aqeous and calmine mix just helps calm the spots down, ease the irritation and also moisturiss the skin ( which the calamine alone doesn't do)
Just be guided by him really

moodlesoup · 27/07/2007 19:41

thank you little boo.

My DD has just had CP. Piriton seemed to really help. She slept all through the night and didn't scratch when she'd had a dose. I didn't know about piriton when my DSs had it and they suffered terribly.

quiveutmabonnebaguette · 31/07/2007 19:36

Alright now DD2 10 weeks old has one spot with a blister...cant see other spots...is she as contagious as DD1 whom had a lot of spots ? Should I keep her indoor as well ? You cant see the spot, it's under her chin.

Please advice !

Yes I guess so quivet.

We've had it since Thurs. Both quite poorly for couple of days, now fine. All scabbed except spots in DDs nappy area.

NHS direct website has good advice.

quiveutmabonnebaguette · 31/07/2007 19:47

oh buggeration...that would be mean if I was going out with DD2 then... by this weather...Thanks Scattyspice, I'm going to have a look at this website
