I've been referred for these.

I know what it is, a camera up into my womb etc.
Anything I might not think of to warn me about?

Oh well that's good to hear Lissy! (I think?)

Sunlov · 25/04/2019 20:18

Lissy - what were your symptoms?

OP posts:
Lissy50 · 25/04/2019 20:21

It was, from start to finish it was very quick and now I can get on with things, I hope it all goes well for you 💐

Lissy50 · 25/04/2019 20:22

Sorry, the only symptoms I had was a slight bleed twice, I hadn't had a period for 14 months, other than that nothing.

Sunlov · 25/04/2019 20:23

Me too! I don't care if they need to disembowel me lol.

I suppose my biggest fear is that they won't find any physical cause and tell me it's hormonal and I'll have to put up with it.

Can I ask why you sought medical help? Is the 50 in your username your actual age?

OP posts:
Lissy50 · 25/04/2019 20:30

It is, I'm 50 and thought I had gone through the menopause so went to get checked out but didn't really expect to be told it was cancer but because they caught it so early it was easy to sort out.

Sunlov · 25/04/2019 20:37

Sounds like you had someone on the ball there Lissy! I had to rant at the male doctor to get referred.

I had this a couple of months ago, followed by endometrial ablation. You need someone to stay with you for 24hrs after general anesthesia or you can't go home. You also need to eat and pee before you can go home.

You won't be able to eat or drink from midnight the day before.

I was very crampy and nauseous afterwards but up and about quickly.

Sunlov · 25/04/2019 20:44

I suppose I should just wait to get the letter before panicking. I literally have no-one here to stay with me.

OP posts:
Sunlov · 25/04/2019 20:46

Bizarrely, I'm a smoker. Nurses have commented several times before that the first up and out of their beds are the smokers Blush

In my department as someone else said further up thread, if you don’t have anyone at home to stay with you for 24 hours after the general anaesthetic then they won’t do it or you will have to take up an in patient bed over night. There is a good chance of repeatedly being cancelled as there just are no beds for overnight stays at our hospital.

AJPTaylor · 25/04/2019 21:01

I had this a few years ago via the two-week wait after an ultra sound. That was prompted by my gp who felt a mass during a medical for a new job.
Had it without anastetic.i was told at the appt that the consultant would follow up but he told me on the day that he was fairly certain that it was fibroids gone mad. I had a hysterectomy within the month, bikini cut. No sign of the big C and it was the best thing I have ever done.

Ilovefluffysheep · 25/04/2019 21:06

I haven't had this procedure, but numerous others (sadly my number of ops is in the 20's). As others have said, you have to have someone at home with you for 24 hours after general anaesthetic or they won't let you go home.

theworldistoosmall · 25/04/2019 21:12

Here they won’t discharge you until someone is on the ward.

Butterflyone1 · 25/04/2019 21:14

I had a Hysteroscopy and Laparoscopy yesterday. I had extensive endometriosis and scar tissue removed.

My DP picked me up from the hospital and stayed overnight but I was on my own during the day today.

I needed him overnight as I nearly passed out due to low blood pressure but I took it easy today so you should be ok alone during the day but definitely need someone with you overnight. If not you might need to stay overnight.

BestIsWest · 25/04/2019 21:17

Just bookmarking as I’m scheduled to have one in a fortnight following an ultrasound. I haven’t been offered anaesthetic though. The letter says to take plenty of pain killers an hour before. Not looking forward to it.

EnlightenedOwl · 25/04/2019 21:19

I had this after scans showed an endometrial polyp. I took sanitary towels in and woke up from anaesthetic with one in place. Minimum four hour stay after procedure had to be collected and taken home and someone at home with me for 24 hours after

Sunlov · 25/04/2019 22:34

Well unless I can magic up Mary Poppins, I literally do not have anyone to watch out for me! Will they refuse to do it in that case?

OP posts:
Sunlov · 25/04/2019 22:38

The consultant never raised the question of having to have someone to look after me, just mentioned that I might need to be kept in.
He was very thorough and surely spent 40 minutes going through my history.
If it was a case that he wouldn't have been able to do it unless I had a partner at home, I think he would have told me.

OP posts:
Sunlov · 25/04/2019 22:41

He didn't say that I would be kept in though. It was just a 'may'.

OP posts:
Sunlov · 25/04/2019 22:50

I take it that those of you with partners and anaesthesia were allowed home no questions?
I can't quite understand why they offer an anaesthetic or nothing?? Hmm
Ok love, you can do this WITH pain or WITHOUT pain. Which would you prefer?

OP posts:
Butterflyone1 · 26/04/2019 07:04

People are giving you the answers but you don’t seem to be understanding it. You are not allowed to simply walk out of the hospital alone after having a general anaesthetic.

It might be different if you have a local anaesthetic.

The consultant won’t go through everything you need in that one appointment. I had two pre operative assessment appointments and this is where they told me about needing someone with me.

Have you really got zero friends or family who could pick you up from hospital? If not then they’ll likely admit you for the night if you have a general but obviously this is more of a cost to the NHS.

@Sunlov

I had this done with no GA.

It was absolutely fine.

Not painful and less 'ouch' than a smear.

I know some women find it painful but I do know others who found it fine.

I got public transport home afterwards.

no bleeding, no cramps, nothing. I was told to keep an eye out for any pain in case there was any infection (which would be rarely.)

I had a great consultant and the idea was to stop at any time and go back for a GA if too painful (this was privately.)

I was told at the time all looked ok, but he did a biopsy anyway.
