Immediate diarrhoea after takeaway pizza?

Blankspace4 · 12/04/2019 19:25

Any ideas what this might indicate? I only manage a couple of slices and it’s as if it liquidises anything in my body instantly (sorry if tmi). Not at all pleasant. Should I be concerned and what might it indicate?

The pizza itself isn’t hooky (too fast) but the act of eating it will have triggered something already in your system.

What had you eaten in the previous 48 hours or so? Have you been in contact with anyone unwell?

loubeylou68smellsofreindeerpoo · 12/04/2019 21:38

There may be something on it you are intolerant to. Mine is salmon, bum like a tap within about an hour or two

IWantMyHatBack · 12/04/2019 21:39

What kind of pizza, and where from? I get this with domino's pizza with ham on

Oh, this happens to me when I have pizza, but only in the UK. I’ll have the shits, but cannot eat a whole pizza. Take me to Italy to have their pizza—and wine— and I’m fine.

Swishswish26 · 12/04/2019 21:47

Could it be the amount of grease in the cheese? Far more than shop bought in my opinion.

madeofstarlight · 12/04/2019 21:48

This happens to me, I think the grease must irritate my system. I get it with fry ups as well.

There are many things that this could be so you need to see a doctor to run tests- the good news is that it is unlikely to be food poisoning if the reaction is immediate.

DH had a similar issue with rapid onset diarrhea and was unable to eat certain foods including pizza and his diagnosis was microscopic colitis - confirmed by colonoscopy and biopsy - he had to take steroid tablets for 6 months.

You might also have an allergy or intolerance to one of the ingredients such as wheat/gluten, dairy etc

It may be some sort of gastric or gall bladder reaction to the high fat content.

best to get it checked

WhiteDust · 12/04/2019 22:11

Cheese.

I get this if I eat too much of the stuff.
I need the loo within about 15 mins and it's all liquid. Sorry to be so graphic.

Ginkythefangedhellpigofdoom · 13/04/2019 02:13

Ibs.

Lots of people have ibs trigger foods and eating them spark in some people an immediate sprint to the toilet!

My friend and I call it vomiting from the arse!

justasking111 · 13/04/2019 02:20

I have post cholecystectomy after gall bladder removal pizza too fatty for me. Very sad

avocadochocolate · 13/04/2019 07:54

Could be food poisoning. I once had food poisoning and I started feeling ill within about 10 minutes of finishing the meal. My friend who was with me took some hours to feel unwell but she was just as ill in the end.

Lwmommy · 13/04/2019 07:59

Dominos pizza has this effect on DH, only Dominos, any other pizza is fine.

LeavingTeaching · 13/04/2019 08:07

Pizza Hut pizza does this to me! Straight through me every time. I have (finally) learned my lesson now and avoid it!

Blankspace4 · 13/04/2019 08:14

Thanks for the replies.

It only happens with ‘British’ takeaway pizza - Dominos, Papa Johns. I’m pretty sure it’s not food poisoning as it’s happened 3 or 4 times now (why I keep agreeing to have it is beyond me - seems to be the popular vote in my household).

If I have an Italian style pizza - thin crust, more authentic I don’t recall the same happening.

Just curious what it is causing the reaction, guess signs point to either the fat content, dairy or gluten. But I don’t seem to have this specific problem with any other foods!

Stomach still feels quite ‘off’ this morning even though I only had 3 slices last night.

This brands of pizzas bliat me and then have a serious impact on my gut's usual routine. I've always out ut diwn to the oil and other ingredients. Aren't those pizzas something like 1500 calories? Thats gonna have an impact. Dusclosure: i now avoid them!

Cheesymonster · 13/04/2019 08:23

Lwmommy my DH is exactly the same.

xtinak · 13/04/2019 08:28

Me and DH have the exact same with Papa Johns.

BeerandBiscuits · 13/04/2019 10:35

So you carried on eating pizzas after the first bad experience? You must really like pizzas Smile.
The first and only time I ever ate something with red peppers in it I got immediate diarrhoea, only just made it to the loo in time. Have avoided peppers ever since.

Blankspace4 · 13/04/2019 11:02

@beerandbiscuits you’re right - I’ve no idea why I’ve tried a third time!! Maybe I put it down to a bad day for me, being under the weather, or something wrong with that particular order or topping. There won’t be a fourth!

Thanks @DDIJ

Certainly not pleasant and as yet nothing has provoked such an extreme reaction, although I do suspect I don’t process dairy v well and also (bizarrely) steak. The easiest thing for me to do is avoid takeaway pizza and monitor symptoms from there! Still feeling Confused

It's the cheese I bet, happened to us abroad with a quattro formaggi pizza. We only had one toilet Grin

Stripyhoglets · 13/04/2019 11:30

The fat content probably triggers gut movements to suddenly shunt everything out asap - hence the liquidity. I have ibs and this happens to me sometimes. I take an immodium before eatimg out and avoid fatty foods - just in case!

IBS. Used to happen to me a lot. Get your thyroid levels checked.
