Welcome one and all - its 9.30 and alls well. Well I've had no breakfast so here's where it gets difficult, this is my cup of tea and biscuit time to reward myself for nightmare morning /school run. So off to make some toast instead - oh bugger, no marmalade either!
Welcome Donk and Kaloo, best of luck everyone. Will be back later to monitor progress - one day at a time...

too ticky - i'm cutting down but not baking at all - it makes it easier - i don't do a lot of baking anyway

OP posts:
TooTicky · 10/07/2007 18:55

I have to bake to keep up with the enormous appetites of my dcs.

burek · 10/07/2007 19:56

fell off wagon last night - ate a peanut butter kit kat! was most definitely comfort food though since we'd had a terrible day.

have been good since though, and am really getting to like the taste of coffee without sugar.

pagwatch · 11/07/2007 17:02

didn't do too badly today. Went to London with two of the kids. came out of the Harrods Chocolate room with only stuff for the kids. Then met hubby and had lunch where my only sins were two glasses of red wine. I even watched as one child ate a huge chocolate totre thingy and other child ate a huge bowl of ice cream. Under the circumstances not too bad. Drinking lots of water now so I don't get tempted to say "awh screw it" and have another glass of wine tonight.
I am feeling reasonably OK - especially as I had felt sure the chocolate hall would be my downfall...
Hope everyone else is hanging in there

clutteredup · 11/07/2007 21:20

Don't worry, the odd kitkat won't hurt burek. It sounds like you're doing really well witht the coffee, its a lifestyle change that which is great, [can we have some well done smilies here please]
pagwatch, fantastic nerve in the face of so much temptation I'm not sure i would have been so strong, good on you [another well done smiley here please]
I think we're all doing extremely well given the nature of our lifestyles and the temptations that abound. I had my first lapse today , I resisted cholcolate raisins, usually rationalised on the grounds of them being 'healthy', I resisted delicious looking cake with lemon icing but I couldn't turn down DD's biscuits which she made at pre school - they were actually so nice I had to have 2 Normally i can take a bite and pretend to eat the rest, I don't know whether they were really more delicious than usual or whether it's just the first sugar I've had all week!! back on the wagon now although I think the water over wine thing is probably a good idea, think I'm increasing alcohol at the same rate I'm decreasing sugar
Keep it up, we've done a week. Are you feeling better? I am.smug

oh, thanks for the encouragement, clutteredup. you're really good at this monitoring!

Glad you are feeling the difference. Haven't hit that point yet. But saying that I've got to be honest with myself - apart from the sugar in coffee, fruit syrups, and the very rare chocolate, we don't have a lot of sugar in our diet any more. Leaving the UK changed my diet a lot, got to say - no access to microwave meals, ready meals, etc which (even if you have the best of intentions) are way too easy to include in what you eat. NOw it is just food prepared from scratch and you can see exactly what goes in! I have lost weight since coming here and I wonder now (after doing this sugar free week) whether it has to do with having considerably less sugar in our diet. If so, thanks for making me realise, clutteredup!

How's the move going btw? It's stressy now but you'll feel so relieved when you close the door behind you!

clutteredup · 11/07/2007 21:36

Hi. burek
You're obviously not such an addict as me - I have -sorry that is now had- an awful diet. I get so tired with DD2 that i don't eat properly and reach out for an instant energy fix- which of course i know is instant but short lived and into the cycle we go....that's what I'm trying to break. perhaps i should persuade DH to move us abroad, it certainly sounds like you have a healthy lifestyle.
BTW it's Earlybird moving not me..I haven't heard from her for a bit , I guess she may have packed the computer....OMG how awful is that...the stress of moving AND no MN..... Our thoughts are with you Earlybird

OP posts:
burek · 11/07/2007 21:44

sorry for the mix-up!
It's certainly a lot healthier than it was in the UK. And it didn't help that we used to live right next door to a newsagents with all those lovely Boost bars, Toffee Crisps, Cadburys!! (oh I am truly drooling now )

NearlyHeddaslessNick · 11/07/2007 21:52

oh please don't make me drool all that talk about choccie bars

I went to macy d with dd today(and ds but he doesn't count) and had a very restrained salad>>>>>>>

I know it's nothginto do with sugar but I am dieting too as I want to shift weight. Still going strong without my sugar

(its eddas btw)

clutteredup · 12/07/2007 10:40

Keep up the good work NHN

Thanks for your words of support clutteredup. Packing/clearing very stressful and emotional even though the move is happening for all the right reasons. I haven't been online often as there is so much to be done.

I don't have many sugary things in the house, but am afraid I have not resisted very well. Think I will try to find my self-discipline again in a few days when we are out of the flat. Unpacking should (hopefully) not be nearly so tough.

clutteredup · 13/07/2007 10:57

[sad
bad day yesterday
i had half a pack of muesli ryvitas, thought they would be alright and then looked at ingredients and they are STACKED with sugar
Feel grumpy and tired again and craving sugary stuff
Now I know I've got to give up all these nice thingsfor good as one lapse leads to disaster
Anyway struggling back on the wagon properly today - hard since I'm so tired - lack of sleep as well as sugar lethargy- and the weather's so grim. i'm sure this whole health drive would be easier if I lived in a hot country. Room for one more on the plain to Tennessee, Earlybird? When is the move, it must be soon now? its a big move, I'm not surprised you're struggling , all the best. Let us know how it goes.

Yes, lots of luck Earlybird.

Eat the fat on meat: exercise more: eat less carbohydrates: drink the juice of half a lemon in warm water for breakfast every day.

Fecking irritating, but very true
