My poor little boy looks absolutely terrible :-(

He's got chicken pox, the spots started coming out yesterday. I know there's a lot of it about at the moment and it's no big deal, but he has been getting steadily worse all day and now looke terrible . He has angry swollen red rings around both his eyes, his face looks appalling (angry red patches between the spots, big blisters, it looks SO sore). He is whimpering and moaning and clinging and I can't do anything for him

I've just given him Piriton, Ibuprofen and Medised and settled him on the sofa under a blanket with some soothing music on, in the hope he will sleep for a bit. But I can hear him whimpering . Any ideas for things I could do to make him feel better?

Yes I read that one several times too LL

but still couldn't decide which one it was

[gives up]

SoupDragon · 02/07/2007 17:53

I can't believe DH's mistake with the medised and piriton is googlable!! (it was "knocks them out in under 20 mins BTW and DS was absolutely fine, although it's not something I would do deliberately)

Hope your DS is feeling better soon, Greeny.

If you're in to alternative stuff, Rhus Tox pillules are recommended for Chicken Pox.
If your DS is over 2 (I think it's 2), Eurax cream is good too.
Calamine cream rather than lotion
Vitamin E oil later to help reduce any scarring from picked spots.

pageturner · 02/07/2007 17:57

I assumed it was ds2 because ds1 was in the bathroom with the poo while the CP sufferer was on the sofa having a nap.

(It was Colonel Mustard in the dining room with the candle stick...)

Greensleeves · 02/07/2007 18:31

wow thanks everyone! have just got back from scooping up ds2's rejected dinner from the carpet

calamine cream sounds really good, the lotion is a pain in the ass

will do oatmeal and bicarb thing tonight, hopefully should soothe him before bed.

pageturner, I don't need anything from sainsburys thanks (got online shop yesterday) but you could nip by for a coffee if you're coming this way! (assuming you have had the dreaded CP, I haven't )

Greeny you are kidding

you've not had it? Jesus. Did they test you for immunity while you were pregnant?

Greensleeves · 02/07/2007 18:48

Jumpin' Jehoshephat woman, it's ds2!!!!

I def haven't had it, have had rubella twice and measles once, but not CP or mumps. Is it that unusual?

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 02/07/2007 19:03

not having CP is unusual, yes

did they test you?

at last some details anyway

next time put it in the thread title will you?

and give him a huge squeeze from me

FrannyandZooey · 02/07/2007 19:03

oh actually

cancel the squeeze

there are blisters involved here

allieBongo · 02/07/2007 19:12

dd has cp recently. it was horrendous. there is nowt you can do that you areb't doing already i'm afraid. the piriton just helps them to sleep. if you can get calamine with aqeuous that will stop his skin from drying out. poor lambkin, it's awful

purpleduck · 02/07/2007 20:28

We made up a concoction of sweet almond oil, {about 100 ml} with a few drops of tea tree oil, lavender oil, and camomile -worked a treat!! (although i was in greece when my ds got it, and when my dd got it, it wasn't very bad )

Beauregard · 02/07/2007 20:34

Ah your poor ds
My dd's had chickenpox very badly in the spring,dd2 was on the verge of being admitted for ob's.
Hope your ds is soon better!
Give it time.

inamuckingfuddle · 02/07/2007 20:42

greensleeves my DT2 had CP badly too, a few weeks ago, spots for a couple of days suddenl;y got much worse, fever, blistered skin, red eyes etc just like your poor DS, she couldn't walk for the pain so I went to GP, got antibiotics and within 24 hrs she was much better - worth considering for tomorrow. There are apparently serious implications for infected CP, not always cured by ABs hope he feels better soon

pageturner · 02/07/2007 22:38

Hi Greeny! Yes, may well pop in, albeit briefly. I'll have ds2 with me, though we have both had CP!

How about around 12 before I brave Sainsbury's?

Greensleeves · 02/07/2007 23:37

Oh borrocks, only just seen this! Yes do pop in, 12-ish is fine
