Hello everyone,

Welcome to the new thread. Our previous one is here.

Anyone with any cancer is welcome, or anyone waiting for tests because they might have cancer. If you're new, just jump in wherever. Don't feel you need to catch up with previous posts. We talk a lot! Ask any questions you need to. Someone will hopefully have an answer. And feel free to post photos of cute pets too.

Whether you're new or not, it's helpful to post a little introduction on the new thread to save people trying to remember everyone's different diagnosis and treatment.

Tahiti Flowers sorry it wasn't better news but I'm glad they've got a new plan.

Namechange I'm cross too. But it's pointless. I'm trying to accept it. But honestly I feel like screaming and crying and throwing stuff. I'm just sitting here trying not to explode.

Lealie can I do the screaming and throwing things for you?

TwitterQueen1 · 09/01/2019 17:41

That's a royal PITA Tahiti. My ex had a stem cell transplant and is going strong 9 years on...

StandByYourTesselators · 09/01/2019 17:54

Leslie would you like to talk about something? I can offer some subjects of distraction:

The fabulousness of Ron Swanson's moustache?

A cost-benefit analysis of keeping delicious but stinky cheese in the fridge? (This is a hot topic at chez-moi as we're being repeatedly stunned by the Camembert breeze...)

Why is there seemingly so much murder in Scandi telly?

What is the best liquorice allsort?

Does the sweet square digestive biscuit deserve its place in the box of cheese biscuits?

Taytotots · 09/01/2019 17:59

Hi all! I had stage 3 bowel cancer diagnosed last Feb. 4months of CAPOX chemo and most of my bowel removed. Currently under surveillance - all good so far. Had results of my screening colonoscopy today and all clear, no polyps Grin but I have to have another one in a year Sad - oh well good to be kept an eye on I suppose and at least the drugs are good!

Leslie offering hurling things services too. Hugs to purple and anyone else in need of them.

purpleunicorns · 09/01/2019 18:09

Leslie you cry and throw things as much as you need to. If love could fix you you'd be the healthiest person in the world right now. I wish there was something I could do to make things easier for you Thanks

Nottheboreworms · 09/01/2019 18:21

Hi

I'm not sure if I should post here but here goes...

I'm 43. Two DC. Have had a lump at the front of my throat for at least 6 years. It was checked by fna 5 years ago and I was told it was a thyroid nodule.

Last month it started to become a bit painful. Went to GP. 2 week pathway referral. Saw the same consultant who remembered me and he was sure it was nothing but did another fna.

It's come back as "thy3f neoplasm" and I've had a short letter saying my case has bwen discussed at a cancer MDT meeting and its been decided it needs to be removed for a full histology.

I'm so worried and anxious. Have an appointment with the consultant at the end of January which seems ages away Sad.

Thanks for reading x

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 09/01/2019 18:47

notthe of course you should! Welcome, though I’m sorry you’re here of course.

I don’t know anything about throats or thyroids but someone else will I’m sure.

You need a rigorous schedule of wine, sleep, terrible films, walks and friends to get you to the end of January with your sanity intact. Also some pizza maybe. It’s normal to be terrified but you don’t know what they’re thinking. They might be being very cautious. Try to remember that loads of people get good news from these tests.

Nottheboreworms · 09/01/2019 18:57

Thank you. I've been reading the thread in detail and you are all so kind and supportive despite going through so much.

I chose the wrong year to do dry January!

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 09/01/2019 19:09

Grin Grin you certainly did my love!

Ok so no wine. Chocolate? Tea?

It’s a lovely group here. We all know how hard the waiting is. It turns into all you think about. I get so impatient for results until 2 days before when I go into meltdown and start refusing to go to appointments! No pleasing me!

Cancer MDT sounds bloody awful doesn’t it?! Can’t they just say a few of us have had a chat and think we need to rule some things out much less panic inducing

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 09/01/2019 19:13

@WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo hope you've literally had a smashing day - throw everything, have a massive strop just do what you feel you want to. I have no idea how it feels to be in your (probably beautiful shoes) but I think about you a lot.
Yes as suggested by @StandByYourTesselators if you want any diversion topics, let us know. By the way the digestives definitely deserve their place under a huge chunk of Brie!
@purpleunicorns your day has probably been shite too but I hope you've had some sleep.
@Dulcedelecherocks Good piece of info, I followed a van which must have been carrying samples the other day and thought I wonder where bits of me are, I know they mentioned Birmingham and Leeds to me!

@Mrstraveller my nose is constantly dripping. I think some of that is loss of hair! On a slightly different note my 8 year olds friends asked me if I'd lost all my hair on my body today! How funny, obviously I told them the truth they thought it was super hilarious!
I had my picc line out today, so that's me done with chemo and the lovely nurses too. It is very strange as you develop such a rapport with them. They kind of hold you together.
@Tahitiitsamagicalplace my chemo didn't reduce my tumour that much so it's good they have another option for you. I know chemo is horrid but let's hope the new stuff blasts the buggers.
@Nottheboreworms hello, sorry your here. Let's hope they sort you out soon. This is the hardest time, try and distract yourself as much as you can. @Namechangeforthiscancershit has given good advice to keep yourself busy! You can always undo dry jan! She says with a red vino in hand! Grin

AimlesslyPurposeful · 09/01/2019 19:30

Oh Leslie I’m so sorry to read your update.

You are a shining star. You make everyone feel welcome and are always there with good sense and kind words. I really hope you know how much you are appreciated here.

Also, Purple so sorry to read your update too. I hope you’re comfortable and being made a fuss of and that you’ll be able to go home soon.

Sorry I haven’t posted in a while. Had a crappy Christmas with blocked stoma that achored me to my bed for days and days. Christmas presents were all brought upstairs and we all opened our presents on my bed.
Two funny things that cheered me up though - My boys opened my presents for me and one of them was a selection of unusually scented candles. DS2 (He’s 22 and has mild Asperger) opened this gift and said “It’s candles. There’s a lemon cheese smell and a strawberry and prosecco one etc...” When DP was sorting through the presents he told me they weren’t candles, they were little pots of jam.
I apologised to DS2 (12) for my illness spoiling Christmas and he said “It’s not your fault and you haven’t spoilt it. You just created a lot more work.”
DP had had him helping out with some vacuuming and cleaning - the things I would have done had I been well enough. Grin

iVampire · 09/01/2019 20:21

tahiti - it’s a real shame there wasn’t a stronger response. When do they want you to go in for your residential?

Tahitiitsamagicalplace · 09/01/2019 20:32

aimlessly that's so funny about the jam! Your ds sounds like mine, the worst part of all this cancer stuff is that he has to walk the dog more often! Grin Sorry you had a crappy Xmas, I hope you're feeling better now.

Notthe Sorry you're waiting. I think waiting to find out if you have cancer is mentally one of the most difficult things a person will go through. I didn't think I could wait another second during those two weeks! Stay away from Google and do whatever you can to keep your mind busy on other things!

Tayto glad you got good scan news! Wine

Namechange I'll get home in the middle if I'm well enough! I seem to bounce back to almost normal between current chemos so hopefully I will be allowed home to make sure DH dresses the kids in clean clothes and feeds them something other than pizza to see the kids and DH!

Leslie Go grab a mug from the kitchen. One you don't like. Go outside and throw it on the ground as hard as you can. Yelling optional. Honestly, you'll feel better! (I have done this once or twice in my life!) Tell someone you dropped a mug and ask them to clean it up please Grin Flowers

Tahitiitsamagicalplace · 09/01/2019 20:34

ivampire next week I think! I will see my consultant on Wednesday to agree it all and he keeps saying I'm "against the clock" so I'm assuming I'll be in fairly quickly.

KeepCalm · 09/01/2019 20:37

Hello everyone, had my pre op done today which went fine. Apparently I'm NOT allowed to bring a tinsel lined, decorated bucket to take my breast away in HmmGrin

Nothing exciting to say and just wanted to pop on to send hugs to @WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo, @purpleunicorns & @Tahitiitsamagicalplace Thanks

leslie if it makes you feel any better & cheers you up in any way at all, I was the ONLY person (THE ONLY PERSON) at 'puppy class' tonight who's dog pished all over her.

Proud moment indeeed

KeepCalm · 09/01/2019 20:39

@AimlesslyPurposeful your DS sounds like a doll. am sorry you were so poorly over Christmas Thanks

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 09/01/2019 20:53

@KeepCalm your tinsel lined bucket sounds great. I'll ask if I can bring one in! Let's see the different replies per hospital!
I had a cocker spaniel (12th birthday present) she was the only puppy to have a shat during puppy training, which wouldn't have been that bad but it was indoors in a random room above a pub! Wink

Wombat22 · 09/01/2019 20:54

Oh Leslie There are no words. I can't begin to imagine all the emotions you are going through, and your lovely family. You are very much loved here Thanks
purple Your news is also shit. Fingers crossed for a trial and I hope all goes well tomorrow Thanks

Wombat22 · 09/01/2019 20:58

Also, I had my surgery in Leeds and the consultant told me that they retain the removed section of lung for future family testing. They later thought I had a cancerous lesion on my liver and that section of lung was tested for 'mutations' Confused

freddiemercury · 09/01/2019 21:24

Hi all.... I was dx breast cancer Feb 2017... lumpectomy and radiotherapy... but still lurk and pop on when I have something to say... someone was asking about radiotherapy and a job... it is v v feasible to start afterwards... don't let cu**ing cancer stand in the way.
But mostly I want to say to purple I have everything crosses that you find a trial
And Leslie I think you're absolutely fantastic... I can't describe how much this thread helped me when I was diagnosed and that is down to you. I will join the plate smashing crew on your behalf..... bloody sodding cancer can fuck off... you however are ace.... take care... xxxxxxxxx

madrose · 09/01/2019 21:26

hello,
52 - married DD 13

biopsy yesterday - lump in right breast. Find out next week what the deal is. Mother currently in palliative care due to 'ignored' breast cancer. Now many secondaries. (there are mental health issues - hence why she ignored it all)

Scared - but reading some of your stories I am so impressed with the strength shown within.

am very scared

KeepCalm · 09/01/2019 21:30

@ranoutofquinoaandprosecco one peed on me and the other one shat on the floor. We really were 2 for 2

@madrose hello and welcome. We can't promise to have all the answers but we are available for hand holds and stories about shitting puppies if that's your thing? Hopefully you'll be all clear and not have to be here long Thanks

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 09/01/2019 21:32

aimless in a totally (mostly) unstalker way I have been thinking of you and worrying about whether to DM you or not to check on you! Lovely to have you back and hilarious about the jam Grin

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 09/01/2019 21:36

madrose sorry you've had to join us Flowers that's very sad about your mum. Good luck for your results next week.

Nottheboreworms sorry you're here too. I don't know anything about thyroids either. Hopefully you've got some nice distractions while you wait Flowers

Tayto that's great news Star

Sadly I'm bedbound now and I don't think anyone would take kindly to me smashing things in the front room! :)

Sorry, I'm very tired today so I won't manage to reply to everyone, but I'm thinking of you all and sending love.
