Has anyone every tried Cerezen ear inserts for jaw pain?

My dentist has recommended that I try cerezen ear inserts to try and help my locked jaw and jaw pain. Has anyone ever tried these? As it seems that they have some negative reviews and before I fork out £500+ I was hoping to find out if it was worth it!

@Chocarocker I am having the same problem but haven't managed to find any negative reviews. Could you link to some? Like you I don't want to spend all that money on something useless.

Justthecover · 19/01/2019 20:20

I haven’t tried them as read some bad reviews on a fb tmj support group I’m a member of. Through that group I read the book, The TMJ healing plan by Cynthia Peterson. It’s quite simple advice but has really helped my tmj pain although I still have some daily.

I’ll be interested to see if anyone has tried the plugs and recommends them.

Chocarocker · 23/01/2019 22:42

Sorry I have only just checked back on here. The negative reviews I saw were mainly on a Facebook TMJ forum. They don’t seem to be a very common treatment as far as I can make out. Will definitely check out that book @Justthecover , I will try anything to get rid of the constant pain and irritation.

Hi I’ve been looking into cerezen aswll for night time teeth clenching related problems. I’ve come across quite a few people who have used them, most of the reviews seem promising. I’m in the process of ordering them too.

Did you manage to get them as well ?

allypally999 · 24/03/2019 15:11

Its quite new - I have them and was recommended by a family member. We both found them to be effective although at first you do feel you have bought into some scam as it does sound daft lol. My jaw is a lot better and I have less headaches and she is the same.

Albvinkei · 31/03/2019 13:18

Ok I have Cerezen devices for my ears. I have only had them for 8 weeks. I found the initial ones extremely uncomfortable and had new ones made. These were considerably smaller so I was hopeful that they would do the job. I only suffer at night and as of yet have not built up enough wear time to use them at night. I have not found the new ones any more comfortable. I feel that my symptoms have exacerbated since using Cerezen. I wear my mouth guard at night and am biting it harder. I have suffered more head and jaw pain since using Cerezen. Now I am not saying that this is the norm but it is certainly my experience. I found it impossible to find any reviews that were not sponsored clinical trials and I don't feel that these always give a true reflection. I am going to persevere in the hope it will improve. However if I had known in advance how they were to make me feel no way would I have bought them. My dentist charged £650. I have used a night guard for several years and they took some time to get used to. Infact I have never found them 100% comfortable that is why I will persevere with Cerezen. Hope I have not been too negative. I just want people to realise that they are not always the miracle cure that they claim to be.

Sorry to hear this. Have you tried just the ear devices with no gum shields in? Like you I tried for years with the mouth guards and came to truly hate them (plus I developed a sore on my tongue from the rubbing but that's another story). Didn't they mould the ear devices to your ear? Mine fit so perfectly I forget they are there. No I don't work for them and neither does my friend who got them before me and recommended them. I felt stupid spending money like that for a while but when they worked - not so much. Try just using them and nothing else and see if it works then. At that price its worth a bit of perseverence. I have started getting my jaw pain again (rough few months of it, stress, etc) so will start wearing them again for a bit.

Footdrama · 03/04/2019 13:50

I’ve had lots of tmj problems and had an op last week which so far seems promising - so fingers crossed it helps. I use a small mouth guard over my front teeth so not so invasive as a full mouth guard and that’s helped me with grinding and clenching, cost £170.

Albvinkei · 03/04/2019 14:07

At the moment I have only been using them during the day. I was told not to wear them at night until I had built up daily wear and had a consultation with the rep.. I was told that this would take place after I had the devices for 4 weeks. Although I have had them longer than 4 weeks I have had a second device made for one ear so I haven't spoken to the rep. yet. Yes I saw an audiologist who took ear impressions however one of the devices was so uncomfortable they made me a replacement. This was considerably smaller than the original and at first I thought it was better but actually the first one was causing pain because it was so tight and the second one I think might be a bit loose. It is moving about and affects my hearing. Both devices move when I eat. I have kept the original device for one ear and it is bearable I can't call it comfortable. I am acutely aware of them all the time that I am wearing them. Infact I have to psych myself up before putting them in. My ears feel uncomfortable after removing them as well now. Mouth guards have made my tongue sore before now and my current one hurts my gum. However the mouth guard is considerably more comfortable than the Cerezen. I have a feeling I have been unlucky and it is good to read your success story. I have had several headaches and jaw pain since wearing the devices which is something I only suffered from before if I hadn't worn my nighttime mouth guard. Obviously I have still been wearing my guard at night so I put the headache and jaw pain down to the Cerezen not fitting properly and causing me to hold my jaw in a strange position. I also feel the need to keep clicking my jaw when the Cerezen are in situ. How long did you have your devices before wearing them overnight?

Albvinkei · 03/04/2019 14:09

The small mouth guard sounds good. I wish I had known about that before. I don't want to keep spending money on something though if I'm not sure it will work.

woolduvet · 03/04/2019 17:21

Obviously no idea if you've tried the tmj exercises on google.
Made a massive difference to mine.

Albvinkei · 03/04/2019 19:31

I didn't even know that there were excercises for it. I'm off to google them now. I was wondering if the original poster has decided to go ahead with Cerezen. One thing I can say is that the after care seems pretty promising. They have advised me to stop wearing mine for about a week then start again.

woolduvet · 03/04/2019 20:20

I'd got the point where they offered me an external brace! I found them and not looked back. As soon as it starts I repeat them and it'll fade.
Press tongue to roof of mouth
Thumb under jaw and push against it
Thumb on side of jaw and push sideways to resist
Count of five then build up.
Hope that makes some sense.

woolduvet · 03/04/2019 20:21

Oh and fingers over bottom teeth pulling down and you offer resistance

allypally999 · 04/04/2019 12:45

Goodness we are all so different! I tried the smaller mouth guard and it didn't stop me one bit.

I don't remember the Cerezen guy giving me much in the way of instruction - it was my dentist who said wear them as much as possible right away so I wore them for around 2 months all night and sometimes from the afternoon onwards. I really hardly notice them (unlike the mouth guards which I describe as trying to sleep with a slipper in your mouth!). I am not currently wearing them and my dentist reports that my formerly olympian standard jaw muscles are much more relaxed now yay! I hope you all find some relief!

Jaxki · 07/04/2019 13:14

Hi, I have tmj. I tried the gum shield but it didn't work and now my bite has changed as my jaw if further forward. I'm not saying this is because of the guard but it seems to make it worse. My doctor prescribed Amitriptyline, just 10mg which made a huge difference to the pain. I don't think I'm clenching my teeth any more because it not even comfortable to have my teeth together! I am considering the Cerezen because I simply don't know what else to do. Do you think it will help with re-aligning the jaw? Also, does anyone know if it is only available from private dentists? I also get a sore tongue and a dry mouth, I am interested to know if anyone else also has these, or other symptoms.

PetraDelphiki · 07/04/2019 13:17

I know it’s going to sound a bit woo but have you tried a cranio sacral osteopath? I had horrific ear/jaw pain - Dentist was going to take a tooth out to try to cure it - one session with my lovely osteo and she’d put my jaw back in place - all pain gone! I’m the first to be sceptical (honest) about random treatments but it really did work!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 07/04/2019 13:20

My physio have me TMJ exercises, very simple and made a difference within a couple of weeks and haven't had a flare up now for over a year.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 07/04/2019 13:22

Jaxki · 07/04/2019 13:39

I haven't tried cranio sacral osteopath , sounds like a good idea, I will do that. I did go to a physio but she didn't seem to know what to do; not her area of expertise. Thank you for the advice.

Sometimes my teeth feel like razor blades, I asked my dentist to file them down a bit but she said I needed sharp teeth to chew and refused to do it (NHS)! I am considering a differnt dentist.

NoTeRindas87 · 16/07/2019 02:30

I originally wanted cerezen for ear fullness associated with my TMJ. It made the fullness worse. Then I got some crazy headaches I never had before and stopped. I tried wearing them again in the hope they’d fix the ear fullness but they never did. I stopped wearing them and now my jaw tension is worse than ever. I get temple, head and facial pains which I neve had beforehand. I bite my mouth guard harder at night and wake up feeling worse than I ever had before I tried cerezen! If I had known, I never would have tried them. BEWARE! I see some people had similar experiences. Did you discontinue use? Do you feel like you did before you tried them?

allypally999 · 16/07/2019 08:40

I am going to stop recommending them as I initially only had mine and 1 pal's positive experience to report. Now I have heard some negative feedback (and the price has gone up) I would be wary of sending someone else down that path unless they have tried EVERYTHING else. They helped us is all I can say.

maveri · 01/10/2019 21:30

Hi! Here a life-long bruxist. I will be getting my moulds tomorrow. I should receive my cerezen in 3-4 weeks. If anyone is interested, I will post my experience after a few weeks of usage.

Ssaammii · 01/10/2019 22:30

Hi guys I’ve had my cerezen for a few months now and ive started to notice they really do help, it’s been very gradual but I can now feel the difference they have made, in the beggining I did get frustrated as they didn’t feel like they did anything, but after hearing promising reviews from people like allypally999 I continued wearing them, otherwise I would have just given up on the cerezen. Thanks allypally999. It will be interesting to see how you get on too maveri. Just one thing I’m finding abit annoying is how they slip out gradually and you have to keep pushing them into the correct position so they don’t fall out. Does any one else have this?

allypally999 · 03/10/2019 10:56

That's fantastic Ssaammii! I am so pleased for you. I do feel that they are not in securely but I think that's just because we don't normally have things stuck in our ears (unless you wear earphones a lot). I have the same issue when using my ipod to listen to music. Just make sure they are pushed in properly and try to forget about them. So glad you persevered! Grin
