We have two dogs who enjoy walks every day. I do wonder if my sneezing and sniffing is an allergic reaction.

Dh takes them every day for allergies. He takes loratidine

madmum5811 · 01/01/2019 19:30

Thank you I do take them spring, summer. But thought that was it. I have asthma and with dogs and cats wondered if they were bringing something in on their coats autumn winter.

Yes, I do, just cetirizine as a baseline and top up with Piriton if I need it. This is for random allergies that aren't all easy to identify/avoid.

autumnboys · 01/01/2019 19:33

Yes, I do. I sneeze all year round otherwise.

VLCos · 01/01/2019 19:46

I have taken then for last year tried to stop and withdrawal symptoms are pretty horrible

Turquoisetamborine · 01/01/2019 20:05

I take one every night before bed, sometimes I wake up sneezing and have to fake an extra one. I’m allergic to all sorts.

HundredMilesAnHour · 01/01/2019 20:10

Pretty much. I actually take Benadryl to help me sleep. Trying skipping it for 2 nights and my sleep was appalling. So took some last night and I slept really well.

I do also occasionally take anti-histamines for the main purpose i.e. allergies as I'm allergic to cats.

Chilver · 01/01/2019 20:11

Yes, and double dose of prescription only ones too to keep my skin allergy at bay. Would love to come off them but no dr is even interested in investigating why I suddenly developed this allergy in the past 2 years, sigh...

allthatmalarkey · 01/01/2019 20:12

Yes, GP recommended. I missed one yesterday and had sore, itchy eyes until I took my Cetirizine this morning. They can stop working so well after a while then you change to another one for a break.

Boyskeepswinging · 01/01/2019 20:15

I do. The consultant at my allergy clinic said there would be no long term health issues. If you suspect you have an allergy you should try to get referred to an allergy clinic for proper testing. I say "try" because it took me several years, a move of GPs and several very scary episodes before I got referred. But once I did, I had the tests to prove what I suspected and now carry two epipens and copious amounts of antihistamines with me at all times.

I take loratidine most days as so many things make me itchy or sneezy.

cosytidy · 01/01/2019 20:21

Yep fexofenadine daily. Always suffered w hay fever but since having my DC 2 years ago I've suffered terribly w pet allergies too. Plus perfume, dust seems to set me off. Have not stopped sneezing today

Soph88 · 01/01/2019 20:40

My husband takes the one a day priton every day, if he doesn't he ends up sneezing constantly

moonbells · 01/01/2019 20:43

I'm on daily max dose of fexofenadine without which I come out in hives. I keep wanting to try and stop them when it's not summer in case whatever triggered it has gone, but I'm too much of a wuss and hives drive me up the wall. On the plus side I've spent a lifetime not breathing through my nose and it's fixed that... so must have had low level allergy to something for years.

AugustRose · 01/01/2019 20:45

DH takes loratidine every day, if he misses one he has itchy eyes and sneezes.

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 01/01/2019 20:48

i do too...alternate between loratidine, piriteze or benadryl ..i buy the cheapo ones if at all possible rather than the named brands.

Hercules12 · 01/01/2019 20:52

fexofenodine every day and prior to this several certirizine every day. Been doing this since 20 and now mid 40s. saw immunologist a few years ago and tested- mainly dust mite allergy.

elf1985 · 01/01/2019 20:54

All the fricking time. Hayfever, dust cats, dogs, nuts etc etc. Was told Loratadine or prescription ones are best for long term.

MigGril · 01/01/2019 20:56

My son does he's 8, takes them all year round for dust mite allergy.

GimmeBread · 01/01/2019 20:56

Yep- get them on prescription thankfully. I've never understood the 7-tab packs. 7? What good is that?! 😀

DameBurleyChassis · 01/01/2019 20:57

Fexofenadine every day for about 10 years now. Life changing.

GimmeBread · 01/01/2019 20:58

I've had a horrendous itchy throat/palate at night for 2 weeks now so two cetirizine a day lately. 🤨

LearningMySelfWorth · 01/01/2019 21:03

Yup, I take them daily for multiple allergies.

Cedilla · 02/01/2019 18:00

I was prescribed fexofenadine by a locum GP after having several outbreaks of horrendous hives/unbearable itching/face swelling/redness. Completely out of the blue but only when I was staying with a relative - I suspect a dust allergy but I've never, ever had anything like this before and I've been staying there regularly all my life.

Thank god for that GP because they did the trick. She wanted to see me again to investigate further but I couldn't get another appointment and reception couldn't/wouldn't understand why I asked to see her specifically, so just booked me in with A. N. Other doctor - who literally shrugged and had zero interest in pursuing it.

I'm so relieved it's on a repeat prescription because I'm still getting outbreaks Sad

DrMadelineMaxwell · 02/01/2019 18:03

Perennial allergic rhinitis here... So allergic just in general. Without a daily loratadine I'm snuffly and get itchy eyes. With one that's under control and my asthma is more settled too.
