Can’t sleep at night due to itchy bottom

I’m positive it isn’t threadworms (yuck) I don’t have young children any more and I have had them before and could see them.

But the itching is awful. It happens in the day as well. I’m really sorry for the detail here but the area around my um, bum opening feels damp. I am very clean. I use feminine wipes as well as ordinary toilet paper to freshen up and I shower at least once a day, usually twice as I normally exercise.

I actually cried last night. I was exhausted but I couldn’t sleep as the itching was so painful!

Help! Sad

Worms got to be.

brokenhead · 01/01/2019 14:40

Thrush

dementedpixie · 01/01/2019 14:41

Worms, piles, anal fissure? Can't hurt to treat for worms anyway

SinisterClownWatchingYou · 01/01/2019 14:42

Could be worms..... Seems likely. Could also be the wipes, reactions to the chemicals are not uncommon. You need to see your GP.

waterplease · 01/01/2019 14:42

@NamechangeJan19 hi, I had this recently and ruled out worms, a lovely thing to try and find!😂😩

I ended up shaving my ass- I'm a 19 year old woman by the way, and that worked wonders as well as wearing light undies or none at all!

Good luck, it sucks!

LightDrizzle · 01/01/2019 14:47

You need to go to the doctor I’m afraid. A friend had this for approaching a year and needed a referral to a dermatologist, after being seen unsuccessfully by an arse specialist. I can’t remember the name of the condition but a very, very, potent steroid cream has at last taken care of it. She had a biopsy and very thorough investigation.

Roomba · 01/01/2019 14:47

DS had this recently and couldn't find any sign of worms. Took the medication just to shut me up really but he was so insistent it couldn't be worms. Cleared right up. So then we all took the tablets and boiled everything just in case.

No harm in trying the tablets and seeing if it helps, surely?

Fairylea · 01/01/2019 14:53

Just take an ovex tablet for worms just incase it is that. You don’t have to have children about to get worms, you can get them from touching any surface where someone who has them has touched!

Failing that it might be piles. Anusol and ovex together is worth a try!

NamechangeJan19 · 01/01/2019 14:54

I can try but I honestly don’t think it is (I have no issues with trying but I really am wondering what else it could be!)

I may have to see my GP then I suppose ... poor man!

Try some sudocreme

Hulloa · 01/01/2019 14:58

OP I hope you get it sorted out but I'm afraid I'm giggling childishly at the phrase "arse specialist".

mrscee · 01/01/2019 15:02

I had something similar and sudacreme worked wonders also make sure you wash with hypoallergenic shower gel or soap.

Thishatisnotmine · 01/01/2019 15:04

Not wanting to derail someone's itchy bum thread...

But are piles itchy all the time, or just some of the time? Dd2 is 20 months old but things down there ain't been quite right since she was born! After wiping especially there is always itchiness in the same spot and sometimes a tiny bit of blood.

OP thrush can go all the way down to your anus, if the ovex doesn't fix things, might want to consider thrush.

BillywigSting · 01/01/2019 15:04

It could also be a fungal infection if it feels damp, piles or a skin tag.

Do go and see a gp.

I had this and it turned out to be just a skin tag. Got prescribed some steriod ointment with a bit of local anesthetic in it to put on it and it's fine now.

Took me a good year or so to admit defeat and see a gp but my god I wish I'd done it sooner, it made my life bloody miserable and was so easy to fix.

IdaDown · 01/01/2019 15:05

Take the worm meds. Treat everyone else in the house.
Boil towels/flannels etc...
No sharing towels/flannels.
Stop using the wet wipes - plain water only. Be gentle.
Change underwear twice daily (day/night).
Wear cotton only knickers.

Give it a week or so before you see GP.

Is there any chance you could have prediabetes. Can you get your blood glucose checked?

MustBeDueSomeBetterFeet · 01/01/2019 15:13

Could be tinea? It's very common and fungal in nature.

Some cream will sort it right out!!

Munchyseeds · 01/01/2019 20:39

I sometimes get thisBlush
I have never had worms....I find I have to break the itch/scratch cycle and then it clears up
I use lanacane numbing cream to take away the itch for a few nights, this lets everything heal, also helps to wear pj bottoms
Hopefully works for you

Newyrnewme · 01/01/2019 23:20

This could be a skin tag. Doctor can prescribe steroid cream. Avoiding constipation and drinking plenty of water helps also. In my experience.

spicedappleandpear · 01/01/2019 23:57

It could be psoriasis

BlackeyedGruesome · 02/01/2019 00:08

worms: wear pants at night, wash your bum and clean pants in the morning. (like you would anyway)

clean under your nails,

damp dust all surfaces of bedroom, do not shake bedding as it send eggs into the air. store toothbrush in a cupboard not in open.

pregnant women can get rid of worms by doing the hygeine thing,

eggs only survive up to three weeks so anything you can not wash can go in a bin bag for three weeks.(fifty billion soft toys) I hoovered their favourite one.

hoover bed frames and mattress.

wash bedding regularly.

BlackeyedGruesome · 02/01/2019 00:08

if all else fails flame thrower and move to a new build house... Grin

ReaganSomerset · 02/01/2019 00:08

Try not wearing pyjama bottoms or pants to give the area some air. Only wash with very gentle soaps, no feminine wipes etc. Aqueous cream is fairly unlikely to cause issues. Pour water over after bowl movements and dab dry, don't wipe. Do not scratch, whatever you do. If it drives you to distraction at night, try bathing it in a salt water bath and dabbing dry. The saltwater may sting though. Do see a doctor, too!
