Can’t sleep at night due to itchy bottom

I’m positive it isn’t threadworms (yuck) I don’t have young children any more and I have had them before and could see them.

But the itching is awful. It happens in the day as well. I’m really sorry for the detail here but the area around my um, bum opening feels damp. I am very clean. I use feminine wipes as well as ordinary toilet paper to freshen up and I shower at least once a day, usually twice as I normally exercise.

I actually cried last night. I was exhausted but I couldn’t sleep as the itching was so painful!

Help! Sad

Obviously leave pants on at night if you think it is worms! New pants.

Lol, bowel not bowl...

Thishatisnotmine I had terrible piles for a long time after each of my pregnancies. Itching was the main symptom. It could be itchy at any time but seemed worse at night. The thing that cleared them up eventually was Anusol+ suppositories, the ones with hydrocortisone. It had to be the suppositories rather than the cream as they must have been internal piles. They were actually very easy to use.

Eel??

See your GP but in the meantime try Germaloids, available OTC, contains a mild anaesthetic. May give you some relief.

WH1SPERS · 20/01/2019 08:10

You might be allergiec to the nasty chemicals in the wipes. Or perfumed soap or shower gel.

Beansandcoffee · 20/01/2019 08:14

Not sure how old you are but the menopause can make you itchy all down there front and back.

VictoriaBun · 20/01/2019 08:15

Do you get eczema / psoriasis ? If the skin feels damp then it is probably weeping. The itching could be due to an infection. If you have an oh get them to have a good look at the skin to see, but you probably need to see a doctor.

I think if it's not worms or piles it's just something thats got a bit out of control, like a small cut which has taken hold. Mixed with a soap or wipes that would normally be ok they've aggravated it. Suppose it's a fissure then as one pp suggested. I use unperfumed soap and wipes anyway but at any sign of a sore starting there I wash and dry (shower the area not flannel) then rub in a good dab of savlon. As yours has got worse than that it prob take a few days. Do that morning and night. Get unperfumed soap and instead of wipes while it's going on after loo wipe with warm water on a cloth. Or better still shower area after loo.

EngagedAgain · 20/01/2019 08:44

Also as another pp said it could be thrush as a few years ago I had antibiotics (had them before with no effect) and my goodness the itching and heat was unbearable and it was everywhere down below round bottom and even episiotomy scar flared up. I took a one off oral tablet from chemist, sorry can't remember name, and after only 6 hours it felt slightly better and after 2 days had gone. You could try all that first, but if no change you will have to brave the doctor to get rid, but also without worrying you should it be a sign of something serious.

StandUpForYourRights · 20/01/2019 08:48

I get this. Its not worms. I keep myself scrupulously clean after going to the loo (use moist wipes). Any feeling of dampness, I clean again and use some talc. Anusol ointment at night really helps. Try not to scratch as it just makes it worse. Hope that helps.

Hopefully you're sorted by now OP. Sorry, but 'arse specialist' made me laugh too.

IlluminatiParty · 20/01/2019 09:00

Even a little pile can cause itching. I'd put my money on that but pop an ovex just in case.

EngagedAgain · 20/01/2019 10:31

Yes I think re reading it's most likely pile/s . It sounds similar to symptoms as I had one briefly and seem to remember it also hurt when I sat down. I'm afraid I laughed at the 'arse specialist', and the thought of a thorough investigation. All joking aside no one needs to feel embarrassed about the doctor and when I briefly had my 'pile' I'd already decided if it was an ongoing problem I'd have it cauterised. Better than putting up with piles. Although I dread the day I ask for anusol! I don't know I think it relieves them but doesn't get rid or does it shrink them? If anyone knows?
