I need your advice, bum experts!

I have had what I think is a sebaceous cyst on the cheek of my bottom for ages now (like, a couple of years)! Am thinking of going to GP to ask to get it removed as it is not pretty (about the size of a little finger, not huge) BUT I am scared of having any procedure done in hospital and getting MRSA for my trouble, you know?

Advice? Anyone have one or am I a freak?

what is it with the "size of a little finger" bum appnedages? Anyone got any in the shape of amusing vegetables, just to ring the changes?

WanderingTrolley · 24/06/2007 13:52

Your gp might run a minor surgery clinic, so s/he might be able to do it there?

My gp has one of these for the removal of warts/moles etc.

sorry, should say the size of my NAIL on my little finger - my God, not the size of a finger, Lord help me.

God, so embarrassing

My bum is a lot like a huge wobbly mound of mashed potato, suzy, does that count?

suzywong · 24/06/2007 13:53

I was going to say - that's a third leg, not a cyst. Paint it's toenails and get a matching shoe

anotherembarrassingillness · 24/06/2007 13:54

no, sebaceous cysts are kind of in a protective sac and just stay for yonks

if that's what it is

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 24/06/2007 13:54

What is it, like a spot?

anotherembarrassingillness · 24/06/2007 13:55

but under the skin

I know it's a cyst as am (attracively) prone to them - elsewhere on the body have had two.

Ah, is it one of those little hard blob things? They are fine to leave there unless they are giving you bother, I think

anotherembarrassingillness · 24/06/2007 13:55

at least, I hope it's that and nothing dodgy

Dp had one on his arm, about the same size as you describe

the doctor did it in his office

anotherembarrassingillness · 24/06/2007 13:57

yes

just had one in front of my ear for years (romantically, since I got married) and it FINALLY wanted to burst a couple of weeks ago. God, that was an experience, squeezing that. nice, sorry!

um, bum one isn't as big - but didn't really know you could get them on ze bottom.

doesn't it take ages to sever all the anchoring thingies (I had ANOTHEr one removed from my ear lobe a few years ago - caused by getting ear pierced) and had it done in day surgery at hospital and it took sooo long.

FrannyandZooey · 24/06/2007 13:58

oh jesus, don't they smell repulsively cheesy or something, is that right?

anotherembarrassingillness · 24/06/2007 13:59

it was SO disgusting 0 that sebum had been inside it for a decade.

before you think I am a total freak, I did go to specialist to get it removed but he wasn't keen as too near some nerve or other.

OP posts:
anotherembarrassingillness · 24/06/2007 13:59

very liberating to squeeze it - took hours and hours

OP posts:
suzywong · 24/06/2007 14:00

was it a bit like this?

anotherembarrassingillness · 24/06/2007 14:01

damn, can't see it (shame)

but probably, yes!

FrannyandZooey · 24/06/2007 14:01

well I could be getting confused. Will ask dp when he gets in. But he had a cyst thing on his arm and they basically just cut it with a scalpel and popped it out

ah here he is

yes it was a sebaceous cyst

anotherembarrassingillness · 24/06/2007 14:02

bet he has said, "Er, why?"

FrannyandZooey · 24/06/2007 14:03

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD Suzy

[speechless]

FrannyandZooey · 24/06/2007 14:04

lol, no, he knows not to ask now

anotherembarrassingillness · 24/06/2007 14:06

wonder why my ear-lobe one took about 2 sodding hours to get out - some cack-handed newbie doing it maybe?
