Anyone had it done? I’m feeling a bit anxious now. Weirdly I’m not worried about the actual procedure but I am worried about it not working or worse (I think it’s filling in the consent form that’s done it!)
Any top tips or an anyone tell me a bit more what to expect?

I don't have any advice but good luck! I'm sure it will all be fine Smile
I don't blame you for going for it if you can. I'm sick of wearing glasses for up to 20hrs a day.
Fingers crossed for you

HyggeHeart · 06/12/2018 21:33

I had it ten years ago (I think the procedure has changed - probably much better! - so I can't give much advice) but im so glad I had it done, eyes have been great since and still no need of glasses! 😊

Fstar · 06/12/2018 21:36

Thinking about this myself, no advice but please can you come back with how it went etc? Good luck, although you wont need it

Whifty · 06/12/2018 21:36

You'll be fine. It is over and done with in seconds. Literally. My surgeon went 5..4...3...all done!
My eyes are as good as they were the day it was done. No regrets at all, changed my life!

Mamabearx4 · 06/12/2018 21:38

My dh had it about 2 months ago.
Appt got moved to a city furthur away so that was a pain but couldnt be helped. He was in and out in 40 mins. Gritty and sore eyes for about a week. But could see right away, if a bit blurry. You will need to have someone collect you and get you home. Dont make plans for 2 days, in case you are findingit astruggle. Keep your eyebdrops close to hand as itwill every hour for a day thrn every few hours. Plus you will need to wear a eye mask at night for a week possibly more. Good luck my dhhas been so much happier since

Mamabearx4 · 06/12/2018 21:40

Oh he said it takes seconds, amd didnt hurt. It was more afterwards. Oh and dont rub your eyes

Bonkersblond · 06/12/2018 21:40

Best thing I've ever had done, suffered a bit more than I thought with dry eye, make sure you follow the aftercare to the book, Mine was 10 years ago and eyes still 20/20. Good luck.

PetuliaBlavatsky · 06/12/2018 21:43

I had it done nearly 15 years ago, it's been brilliant. I had very dry eyes afterwards which lasted probably a year or so (they'd been dry before too and I was warned they'd probably get worse) but my eyesight is still great. I am just about verging on needing glasses again in the next few years for age-related changes so I've done pretty well out of it. The freedom it gives you is amazing!

chuffinghellmun · 06/12/2018 21:48

I had mine done in August. Best thing I ever did. The procedure was fine but I did panic a bit when I couldn't open my eyes for about 8 hours after. They said it was normal though. Good luck! You'll be fine Smile

runwithme · 06/12/2018 21:49

I had it done two years ago. I have to say, I was in a lot of pain about 3 hrs after. I could barely open my eyes for the drops. Everyone raved about having the surgery done and how they are so glad they did it but no one mentioned the pain so I was worried that something had gone wrong.

It lasted a few hours, and I slept the rest of the day. The next morning it was a bit gritty but no pain. I went for my 12 (24?) hr check and there was someone else there who also had her eyes done the day before. She said I looked much better than she did and that she was in pain too. So we both had it but I don't know if we were unusual.

It's been fine since- a revelation. I just wish I knew about the pain before, so that I didn't panic!

PeachesPlumsPears · 06/12/2018 21:58

Yes, I had it over 20 years ago and its been great. I agree with all the above comments. I am just starting to need glasses again and the only negative comment I have is that the surgeon deliberately did each eye slightly different and now I am having problems wearing glasses as one eye is short sight and the other is long sight. But I have no regrets too and would do it all over again.

PeachesPlumsPears · 06/12/2018 22:08

Just read @runwithme and @chuffing's comments. i had no pain but I did smell some burning when he did the first eye (which nearly made me jump out of the chair screaming I've change my mind). I could see through both eyes very clearly straight away.

Kenworthington · 07/12/2018 07:32

Oh thanks so much for all the replies. I’m particularly heartened by the ones saying it was painless and lasted seconds! I will expect pain and quietly hope for none.

I had it done 15 years ago and eyes still perfect. Honestly, it was the best money I have ever spent and I have no doubt you will feel the same.

loulouljh · 07/12/2018 07:42

I have had it and it was amazing! A little bit of pain after which is relieved by the drops but the actual procedure is no big deal. I did shake like mad after which apparently is quite normal-all the addrenaline.

Alot of drops for a month after and eye mask etc but it is absolutely worth it. I still marvel 5 years on as to how I can wake up and see!!

maerd · 07/12/2018 07:44

I had it done about 7 or 8 years ago. It was painless but I am back to wearing glasses full time again. I had good eyesight for about two years. My eyesight isn’t as bad as it was before the surgery, but my astigmatism is worse which is common after laser eye.

simplepimple · 07/12/2018 08:19

I had it done 16 years ago - it has been great but as you get older of course you lose your close vision and I really wish I'd done more research at the time and ONLY had ONE eye done - more people are doing it this way because your existing short sightedness is great for close vision.

I'm now looking at having the less good eye adjusted for close vision although it will still mean I'll need glasses for computer work. (middle distance vision)

My 3 adult DC have all had it done too and even though I suggested only having one eye done they all went for both and like me now wished they had just the one done.

Hope it all goes well today OP - and yes we were all scared by the consent form but they do have to point out everything - which should be the case for all medical procedures but somehow with almost everything else they don't - otherwise we'd think twice about it all.

Kenworthington · 08/12/2018 07:04

I'm not gonna lie that was traumatic!!! Certainly didn’t take seconds in each eye- maybe 20 mins Confused I've just woken up after 18 hours!! Left eye seems perfect, right is still a little blurry but he had some trouble with that one. Plus it has a gauze contact lens in it to protect that one . Have an appointment this morning at 9 so he will remove that this morning and hopefully will be ok. All in all, worse than I expected but am happy with outcome - well of left eye- keen to see how right eye is but he said it all looks perfect. Thank you everyone!

StarJazmin · 08/12/2018 07:15

Hope your appointment goes ok today. I’m about 6 months on and my vision is ‘better than 20/20’ and no need for dry eye drops etc. The first 24hours was the worst in terms of pain, couldn’t open eyes at first etc. I found the experience itself terrifying, but I have severe anxiety issues. I was very sensitive to sunlight for a few weeks, but it was midsummer and I always have been anyway, I had sunglasses on at all times outdoors, probably wouldn’t be necessary this time of year.

Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery and good outcome for you OP :-)

Kenworthington · 10/12/2018 08:04

For all those who have been so helpful in sharing your experiences of Lasik- did anyo f you have bad blurriness in one eye that eventually cleared? This has happened in my right eye which he said he had some trouble with but it all went well and looks like it’s hwalong properly. That eye
Continues to be really blurry and a bit uncomfortable. The other eye is perfect! It’s making me feel really anxious and also physically a bit peculiar and headachy. I wonder whether I should be driving but like I said other eye is perfect vision and comfort?

Kenworthington · 12/12/2018 12:51

Bumping for reassurance
Please!!

OP posts:
Whifty · 12/12/2018 13:10

Sorry, no idea. I didn't experience any blurryness like you describe. The gritty feeling yes but vision was great. I've also never heard of anyone having a gauze put in their eye. Do you know why? Did he give any indication what the 'trouble' was?
Was the procedure itself as long as 20 minutes? The prep was longer like taping up the eyelids but the procedure itself was very quick for me. I take it you did see a consultant ophthalmic surgeon and not just a high street one?

babycakes1010 · 12/12/2018 13:15

Yes I had blurryness in my right eye after having mine done but after continuing with the prescribed drops i had normal vision in that eye within 2 weeks

Kenworthington · 12/12/2018 13:23

Hey yes I saw a proper surgeon charging proper money 😬😩 at a private hospitals!

That right eye has been my less dominant eye for some time anyway. And even when i had my glasses on it had become quite blurry over time but the optician said that maybe because a it’s the less strong eye and it maybe that I may be starting to need reading glassss and thateyw is weaker.
I don’t know why it was troublesome, he just said it was tricky.however I have had astigmatisms in both eye and possibly it was worse in that one?
When I saw him the day after my surgery for him to check them and to remove the gauze lens, he said my vision is at about 80% of what it will finally become and he can’t say yet what will happen with the right one and it could in fact end cup being clearer than the left. But it’s not better yet. It’s not worse and there’s no redness or pain in the eye itself although I seem to have a permanent low level headache which is poss due to eye strain? Anyway just feeling really down about it. I’d thought it was going to be this amazing thing that would change my life and my vision would be amazing but it’s just not (not yet anyway) and at the moment it just feels like the biggest and most expensive mistake of my life SadSad

OP posts:
Kenworthington · 12/12/2018 13:25

And I STILL can’t drive although he said that I would be able to because of the differing my eyes and how peculiar it’s making me feel x
