DH passed blood in urine

PictPost · 01/12/2018 20:07

DH just passed quite a lot of blood in his urine. No other symptoms just a sudden desperate urge to go. He's urinated for the second time and whilst still passing blood he also passed urine this time.

He's going to get it checked but I've read you can pass blood after vigorous exercise. He was just finishing at the gym and also hungover so definitely very dehydrated, does anyone have any good positive tales of exercise being the cause?

My DF has advanced prostate cancer so my health anxiety is raging at the moment!

ScarletDarling hope all goes well for your DH on Friday.

Mine is doing well now, diagnosis was 3 years ago. He has had 4 rounds of surgery to remove tumours and 2 lots of chemo. He is now in remission and is on 6 monthly monitoring.

PictPost · 09/12/2018 13:34

Gosh sorry jolly I missed your post before. Really pleased that DH is on an even keel at the minute. Long may that continue as it must have been a bloody awful time for you.

Hi scarlett how are you and DH? Did your DH bloods come back yet? My DH has urology appointment on Saturday, fingers crossed all round.

Hi Pict Weve heard nothing yet, I think dh's bloods will just form part of the bigger picture when he goes for his appointment on Friday. So glad your dh has an appointment soon too and you can hopefully put this all behind you. Please God let them both be ok. I'll let you know what happens.

PictPost · 11/12/2018 22:01

Will be thinking of you both and sending good vibes

OP posts:
MrsChollySawcutt · 11/12/2018 23:44

Best wishes to you both and your DHs.

Sending you positive thoughts Thanks

PictPost · 14/12/2018 07:03

Thinking of you and DH today scarlett, really hope goes well today and you get some answers.

OP posts:
ScarlettDarling · 14/12/2018 19:17

We got no answers Pict unfortunately. He had a scan and has got to go back on jan 17th(!!!!) for those results and his cystoscopy. He had another urine sample tested today which showed no traces of urine so that’s good. I’m so frustrated that he has no answers yet, and won’t for another month yet. I so hope your husband gets more answers tomorrow than we did, please let me know.

PictPost · 15/12/2018 08:24

Oh no scarlett that's beyond tough. Did Dr give any indication of what outcome might be? Is dr concerned at all?

Will let you know what happens with DH today.

ScarlettDarling · 15/12/2018 09:10

The nurse told him that the lack of blood in all subsequent urine tests since that day is very reassuring and that a one off show of blood in urine can be caused by loads of things. Dh is now totally unconcerned about it. He has been told though that he can give it a few days for the scan to be processed and then try phoning for a cancellation appointment.

I honestly need to try to relax a bit about this. It feels like I'm the only one worrying and yesterday I was devastated when I heard his follow up appointment wasn't for another month. However, dh has got a big Christmas night out planned for tonight and seems fine.

I have everything crossed for your dh today. Didn't you mention that he was being seen privately?Coincidentally I have a female colleague who has been seen privately for the same thing this week. She spoke to consultant on mon, had scan on thurs, cystoscopy and results yesterday and all was fine. Hopefully things will be as quick as that for your dh.

PictPost · 15/12/2018 20:04

Hey scarlett, no answers as such either here. DH has more blood and urine taken and will have CT on Wednesday. Back next Saturday for those results.

Dr said he will also have camera regardless. Think they don't do all at once as otherwise people find a bit overwhelming (odd).

Not sure if what you want to hear or not but Dr said 75% people with this presentation have no issue that needs dealing with and the 25% do always treatable. I think that's pretty good odds to be honest!

So we wait again, really hope you get a cancellations

Sorry you didn't get any answers today Pict, been checking back all day to see if you'd posted. At least it sounds like your dh should be getting some results next week.

The 75% odds of it being nothing worrying sounds pretty good to me! Thanks for that! I feel a bit more relaxed today. Yesterday I was wound up like a tight spring but I've had to let go a bit. I can't spend the next month like that.

Please do stay in touch and let me know how your dh gets on. I'd like to think that in a few weeks time this will be all behind us.

How are you feeling? Hope you and dh are coping ok with the wait?

Tanfastic · 15/12/2018 21:06

Try not to worry, the cystoscopy is the gold standard test to rule out bladder cancer and you will be told the results there and then. I had a cystoscopy because of invisible traces of blood in my urine followed by a bladder and kidney scan. Normally you have the scan first as they prefer to do the least invasive tests first (mine were mixed up by the hospital). Both were normal.

If it makes you feel any better the consultant who did my cystoscopy told me that he only ever finds anything in 2 out of 20 of these routine cystoscopies and by "finds anything" that doesn't just mean anything nasty, it could be infection etc. All the others are just put down to "one of those things" as was mine.

I still have invisible blood but I probably always have as do a certain percentage of the population.

Try not to worry peeps Smile

PictPost · 15/12/2018 21:55

I sincerely hope we will scarlett.

I've been pretty relaxed about DH since the initial bloods came back clear but after today I remember we aren't out of the woods yet so feel a bit sick about it all again.

I think, like you with your MIL (hope she's doing ok?), as my DF has advanced prostate cancer the reality of it 'happening to other people' doesn't figure anymore so I'm not going to bank on the very very good odds until they are in the bag.

OP posts:
PictPost · 15/12/2018 21:58

Thanks tansfastic, still good to hear positive stories. Am sure will be fine it's just that little niggle that means you can't fully relax!

OP posts:
Tanfastic · 15/12/2018 22:41

Oh I know! I nearly had a bloody breakdown when I was having the tests, I know exactly what you are going through, it's very stressful.

ScarlettDarling · 21/12/2018 21:34

Hi PictPost Good luck for you and your dh tomorrow. I'm sure it will all be fine but do let me know.

Thanks to Tanfastic for your reassuring story. I'm feeling lots calmer about it all now. As dh's next appointment isn't until Jan I had to make a conscious decision to calm down a bit or I'd have ended up ill myself!

PictPost · 22/12/2018 14:20

Hey, we're waiting to go in now. Have got myself in a right state of worry!

OP posts:
LoniceraJaponica · 22/12/2018 14:25

Fingers crossed for you Flowers

PictPost · 22/12/2018 14:40

All fine! Will have a cystoscopy anyhow but as CT shows nothing if cystoscopy does wouldn't be anything serious.

So now I keep everything crossed for you and DH. How are you?

OP posts:
LoniceraJaponica · 22/12/2018 14:42

Great update. Have a lovely and stress free Christmas.

ScarlettDarling · 22/12/2018 19:15

Ah pict, I'm so pleased for you and dh! You can have a worry free Christmas. How lovely!

I'm ok tbh. Dh had his scan a week ago now and I can't help thinking that surely his scan has been processed by now and surely if anything serious had shown, he'd have been contacted? He got a letter from the gp today saying that as a result of the bloods he had done a couple of weeks ago, he needs to go back to get Vitamin d levels checked. Again, I can't help thinking that this is a good sign? I'd expect scary things to show up in bloods, so if their only concern is vit d then maybe things are ok? Maybe I'm clutching at straws but I can't spend Christmas in a horrendous state of anxiety so I'm trying to be sensible!

Have a fantastic Christmas. I'm really so happy for you xxx

PictPost · 22/12/2018 20:50

Thanks japonica, happy Christmas to you!

I totally agree with your mindset scarlett, I know you won't fully relax until it's confirmed but certainly hoping to point in a positive direction now.

With my parents current health issues I'm not sure I could have coped with bad news day, so literally feel like a weight has been lifted.

Much love and Christmas hope and peace to you all. Will keep checking in xx

Hi scarlett, just checking back in to see how your DH is?

Sadly my DF died earlier this month so my head has been there. Hoping your DH has had some good news though.

OP posts:
ScarlettDarling · 02/02/2019 11:16

Hi PictPost so very sorry to hear about your dad. Hope you're coping ok?

Thankfully my dh had good news. Finally had his cystoscopy in the middle of Jan and was given the all clear. All results were normal. He wasn't given any explanation for the blood in his urine, I guess it was just one of those things.

Again, really sorry about your df. I lost my dad three years ago after a very long, horrible battle with bowel cancer. It was a really tough time. Take care of yourself xx Flowers
