Is this a urine infection?

Never had one before but this is horrible whatever it is Sad. Started on Sunday evening and symptoms are:

  1. Desperately needing to pee but hardly anything coming out
  2. When I do pee, at the end it’s a horrid sensation, like burning which is making my eyes water
  3. generally feeling coldy

Have had 4 of a 6 sachet course of cystopurin but it’s msking no difference. Time for GP??

Yes it sounds like a urine infection. You have my sympathy they are awful. I think in a lot of places now the pharmacist can treat you rather than seeing the gp, so may be pop in there first.

Ilovealexa · 20/11/2018 19:46

Yes that’s a urine infection. Almost no doubt about it. I called the GP with exactly those symptoms for my second course of antibiotics.
In Scotland a Pharmacist can give us antibiotics for this.
I’ve just finished my second course and it’s still not 100% away :(
Hope you get it sorted soon. Baths and plenty of water help.

I thought as much. I’ve been lucky never to have had one before. However as soon as I hit 45 my whole body has decided to fall apart Sad. I got the sachets from the pharmacist who said to go to the GP if it didn’t clear up after the 2-day course. Oh and cloudy urine too. Lovely Envy

Hope you feel better soon!

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 20/11/2018 20:04

When you say you feel coldy, do you feel shivery or feverish? If you do, or if you have a temperature then I’d try to get an appointment this evening, because that could be a sign that it’s progressed to a kidney infection.

PrincessConsuelaBannanaHammock · 20/11/2018 20:07

Get a gp appointment then as soon as you can, you don't want it getting worse or spreading to your kidneys. Hope you feel better soon

AvonCallingBarksdale · 20/11/2018 20:08

Not shivery really just heavy-limbed and exhausted feel like I could sleep for a week.

Def drs - i think nothing of going to OOH at the very first sign of a UTI. thankfully i don't get them often but when i do......

Jakethecob · 20/11/2018 20:14

Drink pints and pints of water too.

AvonCallingBarksdale · 20/11/2018 20:21

Has anyone had good results from something like cystopurin? I think that’s a cystitis treatment but guess it’s the same thing? I’ve only just finished antibiotics for an ear infection AngrySad

I've always needed antibiotics for a urine infection, quite worryingly the last set didn't work & I needed another dose before it worked so am now a bit concerned I'm becoming immune to them Sad
I do know someone who swears by the sachets you can buy over the counter but they've never worked for me

Ozziewozzie · 20/11/2018 20:24

Definately sounds like a urine infection. They can be awful. Drink cranberry juice and get some anti biotics from gp. You can avoid them more so by having a wee after sex

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 20/11/2018 20:31

Honestly urine infection symptoms + feeling unwell would be a visit to OOH in my book.

AvonCallingBarksdale · 20/11/2018 20:41

Thanks all. I’ve had a bath and am in jammies now, can’t bear the thought of going out. I’ll take some more paracetamol and try and get some sleep. You can get on the day appointments at my GP so I’ll phone when they open.

A good rule is to have a small drink every time you go for a wee - it helps flush anything out, and will at least help dilute your urine (so it's less painful) until you get to see a doctor.

LEMtheoriginal · 20/11/2018 20:46

If you have some ibruprofen then take that as well. Dont drink excessive amounts of water as the latest advice is to drink the recommended normal amount rather than over burden the bladder. But do keep drinking .

I genuinely thought about throwing myself down the stairs one time i had a bad uti in the night.

AvonCallingBarksdale · 20/11/2018 20:47

I don’t understand how I’ve got it in the first place, never having had one before. I drink loads of water usually and this just come out of nowhere.

Apparently ibuprofen not recommended and neither is cranberry juice. Cranberry better as a preventative measure.

They really are awful. I was up most of the night last week with mine.

AvonCallingBarksdale · 21/11/2018 10:33

Oh god virtually no sleep. Whoever suggested OOH had a good point. My GP practice now does a triage for UTIs so I’m waiting for a call back sometime after morning surgery 😢. I’ve taken a revolting looking urine sample in to hopefully speed things up. #wails

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 21/11/2018 10:40

Oh no! Hopefully they’ll call you back soon and you can get it sorted.

AvonCallingBarksdale · 21/11/2018 19:01

Course of antibiotics - please god they kick in soon. Blood in the urine sample so have been told to return in 2 weeks to give another sample to rule out, quite what I don’t know!

Probably just want to make sure the infection has been fully zapped. Antibiotics always work quickly for me. Its miserable in the meantime:(

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 22/11/2018 13:15

Yeah I’m sure that’s just to make sure it’s all cleared up and the blood isn’t there any more.

Hope the ABs have kicked in by now Flowers
