My ds who is 4 has been itching since he has come back from daddy's house and his anus is quite red. He had obviosuly been itching it and i can see bits of skin coming off. He has slightly white small blobs (just inside when i cleaned him and tried to look) that are kindof round but not stringy like i thought worms would be like.

Could it still be worms? is so do I need to be treated too.

could be thrush

weebleswobble · 13/06/2007 17:03

Could it be bits of toilet paper where he hasn't wiped properly? Mine used to get little white bits when they didn't.

wurlywurly · 13/06/2007 17:05

maybe he hasnt wiped properly and has got sore?? Cool bath to freshen him up see how he is after that.

jellyjelly · 13/06/2007 17:05

its been a few days now and a few poos later. its getting redder.

might be the bits of skin that he has been scratching?

jellyjelly · 13/06/2007 17:06

Have been watching it and checked him morning and night. put cream on too. He has it for 3 days now.

is it bothering him now? as in, day to day, if it is, i'd go to GP, he might need some cream for it, eso if it is something like thrush.

wurlywurly · 13/06/2007 17:07

sorry thought it had just started, would try gp then

foxinsocks · 13/06/2007 17:08

what cream have you put on?

I would take him to the doc if it has been going on for a while

jellyjelly · 13/06/2007 17:08

might have to take him then. he is complaining about it and if nursery see it they will send him home even if it isnt worms. Does anyone think it sounds like it?

if its threadworms you need to check him when he's asleep .. just pull down his pyjamas and use a torch, gently part buttocks .. if he has threadworms most likely there will be one or 2 white cotton threads around the anus

if it is threadworms it needs treating which involves one pill for the whole family

you need to wet dust, wash sheets, hoover (both houses) ensure he washes hands before eating and in morning you wash his bottom for 2 weeks

HTH

foxinsocks · 13/06/2007 17:09

you can check at night for worms - the worms come out to lay eggs, they look like little threads - but generally, they aren't itchy all day long, only at certain times (evening, nights). Sounds more like thrush or some other skin problem - tis v common in that area.

jellyjelly · 13/06/2007 17:10

i put his usual excema cream on the outside only but not helped.

threadworms info

Twiglett · 13/06/2007 17:11

if thrush just buy canesten cream from chemist

foxinsocks · 13/06/2007 17:12

you cna get canestan cream over the counter, but tbh, I think it's better to take him to the doc

Twiglett · 13/06/2007 17:13

in the meantime put him in a warm bath with bicarb of soda in it .. that should help

foxinsocks · 13/06/2007 17:13

(sorry twig, x-post)

jellyjelly · 13/06/2007 17:14

well he has said but it has been at night and i clean him twice daily. How do they know its dark can i try ti trick them?

OP posts:
Twiglett · 13/06/2007 17:15

its the warmth that comes with sleeping that makes them come out to lay eggs so I don't think you can trick them

jellyjelly · 13/06/2007 17:20

i have normal canestan that i have left over from that 2 in one treatment. can i use that?

OP posts:
foxinsocks · 13/06/2007 17:26

that will probably be the stronger canestan (think it is 2%). You can get a weaker one (1%) over the counter that they use for fungal nappy rash, athlete's foot and the like.

I would ask the pharmacist tbh if you don't want to go to the doc. Don't use any bubbles in the bath or soap or anything in the meantime.

Twiglett · 13/06/2007 17:28

you can reduce it to 1% by mixing it 50: 50 with acqueous cream .. but I wouldn't use it until I knew it was thrush .. particularly if child has excema

PestoMonster · 13/06/2007 17:30

Sounds like worms to me. We had the same thing with dd2. I tried the creams etc, then one night I took a proper peek & there they were.. rotters! It only took a trip to the pharmacy though. You get a packet of Ovex to treat the whole family. They're just orange tablets. Easypeasy. You should repeat the tablets after a fortnight I think. Check with the pharmacist & good luck!
