my feet hurt

I honestly think it is down to foot wear but for some reason im worried, i have been wearing either crocs caymans or birkenstocks pretty much constantly for the past few months. I have noticed that after i have been laying down or sitting for a bit my feet really reaaly hurt. Is this because of my shoes making me walk with curled toes? Has anyone else had this? I don't want to go to my doctor because its pretty obvious its my shoes - isnt it? I dont have any other summer shoes at the moment so cant test it that way.

i should say that they hurt when i get up again and feel like the muscles are a bit stiff, sometimes i get this in the achilles (i think) as well.

what i am trying to say is....get a grip LEM, is that after i have been sitting or laying down (i have to lay with DD to get her to sleep) my feet hurt when i walk again, it only lasts a few minutes, although yesterday after wearing birkenstocks all day they hurt while i was walking around. Is it just as simple as changing my footwear - please do try not to scare me, im a neurotic hypochondriac (so much so that DP has nearly left me recently due to my paranoia)

No advice I'm afraid, but bump.

babygrand · 13/06/2007 09:25

Sounds like the footwear you're wearing is fine. I would mention it to the doctor.

Catilla · 13/06/2007 09:25

Can you try wearing trainers for a few days? I always find that gives my feet a break - both skin (rubbing shoes?) and muscle (curling/gripping).

lucyellensmum · 13/06/2007 09:28

why babygrand

The shoes that you have been wearing have little or no support - so if you have something wrong with your feet - fallen arches for instance this type of footwear can be really uncomfortable. DH can't wear flip flps because cause him so much discomfort. Get thee to a chiropodist (and if you are anywhere in the SE I can recommend a woman who works magic!)

LilRedWobblyGut · 13/06/2007 09:31

Reading back your OP, I think it may be your shoes. If I'm wearing shoes that either have no heel to them or are slightly loose I get foot and calf ache from curling my toes to hold them on. Don't worry unduly, but if you are concened call you doctor.

admylin · 13/06/2007 09:31

I've had this on and off since a year or more. Atfirst I thought it was because I was having to walk alot further (as we moved house) so the school run, shops, everything was further. Then last summer I wore the wrong shoes and I was in agony with my instep so much so that I could only hobble like an old lady some days. I got some gel which contained ibuprofen to rub on the instep and got better shoes and that helped. Now I still get the odd day with pain in my feet especially after I've been sitting for a while - wish I knew why but up to now I've only found doctors who don't know what it is and haven't referred me yet.

lucyellensmum · 13/06/2007 09:36

admylin, it sounds like what i have been experiencing. I would have thought birkenstocks would be ok, i wore them all last year and they fine, i do wonder how much support in the crocs though and it is worse after i have been wearing those.

Babygrand why should i go to the doctors, im really worried now

admylin · 13/06/2007 09:43

Could be we are just doomed to start wearing good sturdy lace up granny shoes all year round!
Must admit, when I wear my good trainers I have less trouble but the ones that really caused my painfull summer were birkenstock madrids - I loved them too but obviously made me walk wrong as I was holding them on with my toes curled.

NoodleStroodle · 13/06/2007 09:43

Find a chiropodist - GP wont be that much help.

babygrand · 13/06/2007 11:36

Sorry lucyellensmum - been out for a while. Didn't mean to get you worried! You said it was hurting, hence I suggested docs, that's all. I'm not implying imminent death or anything! Maybe NoodleStroodle is right - try a chiropodist instead.

suedonim · 13/06/2007 11:51

It sounds like it might be Plantar Fasciitis, which I've had a couple of times. It can take a long time to get better, unfortunately. More info here

lucyellensmum · 13/06/2007 11:57

what is that sue? the link didnt work

OP posts:
lucyellensmum · 13/06/2007 12:03

not sure about that suedonim, its not a particularly severe pain and is very transient, i think it is where i have my shoes on and have to contort my feet to keep them on and then when i have relaxed them and walk on them again, the muscles have cramped up a bit, well that is the advice i would give someone else, but im a paranoid hypochondriac. Which is why unexplained go to the doctor comments scare the shite out of me, but baby, you werent to know how paranoid i am

OP posts:
MadMumsy · 13/06/2007 12:07

It sounds to me like Plantar Fasciitis. It will go eventually. You can get lots of information on the internet about it. It can be very painful at times and also when you get up your feet feel very stiff.

lucyellensmum · 13/06/2007 14:04

yes mumsy, my feet do feel stiff when i get up - will look it up and see what advise they give. been walking around barefoot as much as poss today and there is great improvement too. Cant hurt as much as my neck anyway, cricked it this morning when i sneezed, ow ow ow ow

You are having a bad day - bless you. This foot thing is horrible you have my sympathy. I had it - I also think alot of running didn't help but I stil go down the gym and walking seems to help. It also made the backs of my legs feel really tight. My husband also had it and had some orthotics made up for him by a chiropractor they did cost quite a bit of money and I can't say that he has got over it any quicker that I have. Positive mental attitude helps but if you are a busy person and need to be on your feet - enough said - women just get on with the job in hand without complaining. Good luck though.

suedonim · 13/06/2007 15:57

The link works for me, LucyEllensMum, though it takes a while to load. It can still be PF even if you just get transient pain, my feet didn't hurt all day long - thank goodness!

You can buy some gel things to put in your shoes from Boots. I don't think they help it heal any faster but it makes walking a bit more comfortable.

lucyellensmum · 13/06/2007 16:18

yes, thanks sue, i had a look, actually i think i googled it, but anyway, i think you may be right, although mine isn't desperately painful and goes away after walking for a few minutes. It did mention shoes without heal support, niether my crocs or birkies have this, oh the price of style eh, yeah right, im supposed to only be wearing these because they are comfy!

at trainers. My feet always feel claustrophobic in them - I'm sure I'm the only person in the world with claustrophobic feet.
