eeeuuuuuuwwwww

That sounds bloody awful foxinsocks.

Blimey, so i guess the spray was an antihistamine?

My gp keeps saying it's all down to allergies.

I don't know what to think any more...
I am sorry your nose is buggered though...

hope you don't suffer too much with it!!?!?

Thanks FIS,x

I have been getting sinusitis on and off for the last 2 years. Tried steroid spray, didn't help, but then I didn't stick with it very long, think I will try it again. I've heard the surgery can be agonising afterwards, but i'm beginning to think anything is better than miserable face ache. I have actually vomited from the pain at times. You have my total empathy.

woodworm · 29/05/2007 17:25

I do have allergies, so maybe they are connected, but it seems worse after a cold or flu so I think sometimes theres a superimposed infection.

woodworm · 29/05/2007 17:26

Hot curry sometimes helps loosen things up!

talcy0 · 29/05/2007 17:29

thanks woodworm....have been eating lots of curry, mainly cos it the only thing i can just about taste!
2 years! you poor thing, mines only been 6 months and the pain is driving me beserk!

OP posts:
Indith · 29/05/2007 17:33

you poor thing talcy. I used to get it every month like clockwork til I grew out of my allergies. Was horrible and nothing worked, I've tried a lot of things! Blinking streroid sparys just meant i got about 5 nosebleeds a day. Doesn't help you really to say that but I just used to hole myself up and sit it out. Then wait til next month and that tell tale ache that started right in the back of my throat.

Lemonade was good though....I got a very gunky throat to the stage where it clogged up so much and i would have to make myself sick to clear it out and be able to breathe again until it clogged up again and something with bubbles but not cloying really helped to clear it.

I hope you manage to sort it

talcy0 · 29/05/2007 19:06

Thanks indith,
i had the steroid nasal spray, but it didn't do anything to help.
Have started taking prednisolone again today.
I get really sore and infected throats because of the post nasal drip.
Thanks for your post, and i'm glad your's is better

i havent read the thread, so many people may already have posetd my suggestions. for me the following has worked.

lots of vitamins. B6, zinc, and C. i stopped using echinacea as i dont think it helped. also fish oils.
lots of excercise. the sort where you sweat. drip drip drip. where your clothes get wet and soggy and ucky.
regularly going to a steam room.
a hat. i cannot stress how important this was and still is too me. as long as my forehead stays covered, winter or summer, i am ok. one day of not wearinga hat and i get blinding sinus headaches.

i used to live off medicines and had just complety had enough. joining the gym, and using it, the vitamisn and the hat. havent had sinusitus for two years now.

cylonbabe · 29/05/2007 19:21

the sweating is important to get rid of all the guck from inside. and i would always have to do a big honking nose blow every time i wiped the sweat off my face. really helps clear it all out.

talcy0 · 29/05/2007 19:30

Goodness cylonbabe, that sounds like hard work!!!
Will take your advice on board and try to make myself sweat
Not sure i could wear a hat all the time though! Steam room/sauna sounds good.
Thanks cylonbabe

cylonbabe · 29/05/2007 19:56

it worked for me talcy. i was at a stage wher i was just so fed up of being on constant medication, andit not working anyways.
the gym has the side effect of making you fit
the hat is something you just get used to.

i hope you find something that works for you. i'm glad i managed to get it sorted without the surgery route. good luck

talcy0 · 29/05/2007 19:59

Thanks cylonbabe....i could do with getting fit too

saw that you tried neti-pot - which are fine for colds, hayfever.
when i developed sinus infections i use nasopure
it is much stronger than a neti-pot, you don't need the special salt, just normal sea salt and very warm water. because you squeeze rather than tip the bottle - you can push the pressure of the water up through the nose much faster, which i have found really forces all the gunk out.
hope it helps.

talcy0 · 29/05/2007 20:15

Aaah, now, i read about this after i bought the netti pot.

I think it does need a good flushing.

I like the neti...but won't run through at all at the moment!

thankyou!

Nothing to add except sympathy. I also suffer (and had a thread moaning about it a couple of months ago) all too often (and I'm off dairy anyway as dd is intolerant and breastfed, but it hasn't made any difference).

talcy0 · 29/05/2007 21:21

cantsleepwontsleep!

coincidently, considering your name,
i find the hardest part is sleep deprivation.
Am awake most nights, have to sit up to ease the pain....and then am good for nothing during the day!

I hope your suffering doesn't continue for too long x

OP posts:
CantSleepWontSleep · 29/05/2007 21:55

Oh I'm not suffering at the moment, so no needed, but thank you. Hope you get a good result from your ENT appt. My GP doesn't really do a lot for stuff like this - he said I could get them all cleared with a little op, but it would just come back again, so what was the point?!!

I get a lot of ear infections too, but don't know if they're related or not. They've only been happening the last few years, since I damaged them on a dive (not sure if unnoticed infection caused them to go in first place during dive, or whether dive caused whole problem).

talcy0 · 29/05/2007 21:58

Yep,my gp wasn't too helpful really. Bit of anegative attitude. When i told her about the various alternative remedies/things i had tried...she laughed at me!

Glad you're ok at the moment.

My gp told me to take antihistamines at a longterm maintenance dose.
You could always weear a mask

codydramol was the only thing that helped the pain for me.
